I always wondered how badly a sword would be damaged in the course of one battle when they collided with every other weapon. Would that degrade the blade, and what if I'd spent more battles?

What kind of steel is this?

If two swords are equally hard, they will surely be damaged when they collide

of course they would, no doubts. That`s why testing with different hardness can show durability. Notice that it didn`t cut it through but stopped, which means increasing resistance of the even softer material. It also depends on the edges thickness. You can damage very sharp blade hardened to 54-56HRC by hitting 3mm blunt edge of much less harder.
