A mate of mind told me off for not being able to play enough Aussie classics so I decided to set a bit of Aussie Crawl to fingerstyle.
I've substituted a staccato chord for the snare drum; which is about the main tricky think I did - the melody has to ring while you mute the chord. Once you've done it a few times it gets easy :)
I've gone to town on the video this time, filming myself from three angles and combining them so you get an idea of what is going on with the bassline/melody/snare. Yeah, not 3 cameras, 3 times played, so in a few places it is video out of sync with audio. Sorry.

There aren't enough people arranging classic Aussie rock for fingerstyle, I decided the world needed needs more of it ;)
Thanks,
JAW
Yeah Vic the dropped D gets a good sound on the Maton. Camerawork - nah, I cheated, it is me playing the same song 3 times from 3 different angles and a bit of software trickery :)
Thanks HMQ! This will always be one of my favourite songs to play, because it is uniquely Aussie, all Aussies know it, but the rest of the world has never heard it! ~~~~JAW
Thanks Luke - yep, I'm am pretty pleased with the way this turned out. I'd say the style is fingerpicker rather than classical, but since I have a classical background the style I applied kinda fits somewhere between them both.
I've never thought about doing any other Aussie Crawl songs; this one had the best feel for an instrumental acoustic out of their hit collection. Even Reyney does a sung acoustic version of it ;)
Hey Bro! I think this came together as an arrangement exceptionally well - it's sad only us Aussies and Kiwis can appreciate it. The world doesn't know what they were missing out with Aussie Crawl. Thanks from Western Australia :)
gotta be honest never appreciated that solo until i seen it played in this vid, thats gold
Thanks! I'd like to play it smoother and with more feeling before I put out an mp3, but I probably won't get around to it, so I've put it out anyway. You can find the mp3 in the same place as the tabs (click on more up the top).
Yeah at about the minute mark I dropped a beat, stuffed it, heh, only human. However the double hard pluck in the second verse is to try and imitate the acoustic guitar in the original recording which hits those notes on those beats - I thought it was okay; additionally it mixes things up, might sound a bit repetitive otherwise. Thanks for the comment! :)
WOW I could listen to that over and over... nice job...
this is a high class rendition - love it.......
You've done us proud mate. Absolutely fantastic!! A1 Keep it up
Yes - Tabs available - Click on More up there -^
Thanks man - I should go through the Crowded House catalogue and see "if anything suits" ;)
Thanks, yeah, I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out. 6th string is tuned to D in fact, which has benefits and problems. One of which is if I play a fretted note and I even slightly bend the string, just from normal fingering, you notice it. Not to mention the tension of a 6th string as a D is pushing the friendship with the guitar.
I tuned it in on the electronic tuner before I started, really ;)
Yep - Aussies should be able to play an Aussie song on an Aussie guitar...hence the reason why I arranged this one (and "Choir Girl", and a few more I plan on doing in the future.)
Thanks!
JAW
Awesome! You are very talented, I like the melody in the Bass and the staccato shot in the treble. I'll be trying this approach on something! Thank's
Nice. This is an interesting song since it is the first Aussie classic I heard.
good to see an aussy song being played on an aussy guitar! Matons are great = ) well done
Awesome mate! This song brings back good memories Damn wish I could play the Guitar better.....

that was the coolest acoustic ive ever seen, wow nice job man, i dont really like classical but that was a kickass song, im more into GNR like stuff but wow man, i might learn this song
Nice job!
I always admire people who can 3 part right hand so well. Escapes me but it definitely is an amazing skill and you sure got it, sir. Love Aus Crawl.
It's well worth the effort to get it happening - give it a try. And yep, Aus Crawl...in fact all the Aussie Rock/Pub Rock from the 80's. Love it! :)
JAW
@lmorgan1974 Thanks, yeah, I arranged that one when I was in my TE inspired days. Most of my latest stuff is Naudo inspired, although, I think I may have found my own particular sound, after all these years ;)
JAW

Thanks...I think it takes a thirty something Aussie to appreciate this song. Maton EM225C ~1995 model (I was too poor/stingy at the time for a 325)
Nice job. Appreciate the insight. Always wanted to learn that song.
Really great. I don't know any aussie songs, but that was beautiful!

And I'll tell you now, I DO like that kind of behaviour :) Throw down your chords, but you're not reckless ;)

What are the main chords you are playing? D? C#? G and B?
Mostly D, C, G, Em, Bm and an A with a C# bass. Note that it is tuned for Drop D so watch the bottom string doesn't fool you! JAW
Fantastic! Shame the low E (->D) is out of tune.
👏👏👏🤜🤛🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Ha! Thanks! Unfortunately music doesn't pay as well as engineering. You know the old joke - What is the difference between a musician and a pizza? A pizza can feed a family of four.
