    Great series, Cap, as always. I really enjoy these Carrier Command campaigns.
    I know it's rude to back seat admiral, but that's never stopped me before, so here it goes:
    It looks like your auxiliary fleet units are mostly useless defending the carrier itself except in very particular cases. They can't keep up with you and they don't really provide an adequate defense to be worth the effort. All they seem to do is slow you down and contribute to task overload. I think the first defense for the carrier is speed and mobility. They can't shoot you if they can't find you. Once you took out their recon elements, I'd say you should have reposition to a completely different area.
    Use your auxiliary fleets as a screening and reconnaissance-in-force element in an independent group, much like they were doing. At worst, they tie up enemy forces while you have time to conduct recon and resupply.
    Keep your division of command simple until you are ready to strike, (I know you didn't have several of your vital crew this time). Have maybe one CAP bird up just to put up an immediate resistance and have a few more ready to launch at a moments notice. Having too many units up will just confuse you in a crisis. Launch a replacement CAP before recovering the original unit. All other flights should be devoted to recon until you spot the enemy carrier.
    Staying within your controlled territory didn't seem to benefit you either. Your islands don't seem to give you much intel on what's around them and they don't offer much defense to your carrier either. All it did was narrow the area the enemy had to look for you. You might try hiding in enemy controlled territory, or at least ducking in and out of it just to cause chaos and make the enemy second guess your location.
    To sum up: I'd say be more mobile while you recon so they have a harder time spotting you and always have to find you again after an attack run. Recon is king. Deploy automated forces to create task overload for the enemy, (assuming you have the resource like you did in this campaign). Keep a simple task load and avoid complex operations to the extent possible.

    Need to watch the whole campaign still, but as I've been part of the opposing team, I wanted to save that up for after the campaign. Even though I more or less had to miss the last 2 sessions (and I still have to get that carrier kill achievement... :D), it was great fun!

    You guys stayed in the exact same spot even when you got hammered. Should have boogied south as soon as you got hit badly. Maybe split your fleet up, have small boats go one direction and the carrier another to fool them. They knew where you were for two episodes while you didn’t know exactly where their carrier was. Anyways awesome series, hope to see some more soon!

    I would be interested to see how well a rocket pod attack did against a carrier in DCS. I remember them doing really well against carriers in the H.A.W.X game.

    I really enjoyed that. I think the primary thing of note is that Mantas with countermeasures and a skilled pilot basically can't be hit by missiles.

      It seems the key to air to air is to overwhelm them with fox 2s until the flares run out. 1 flare launcher can defend 4 times.

    I feel like having all your needlefish be AA might be the play to avoid this fate. Aircraft with rockets would still be super powerful, but then at least there'd be a high chance to shoot down any incoming bandits on their first pass.

    Ok here is what i would have done in caps shoes ....feel free to critique but i feel he lost this right from the end of the last episode when he made the mistake of letting that rover on board
    1) headed south immedatly till the spy had been dealt with .....but whilst its their use it to my advantage to make them think that is where i am headed
    2).....turned my lights off, its a carrier under combat conditions people its not rocket science ...at least make it hard to visually target you while you find a way to deal with the spy bot
    3) after dealing with the first attack (assuming i wouldnt be far enough south yet) and the the spy (bobs mistake was withdrawing it and cap should have capitalised) ...moved east of tokamak from just north of byrne putting 2 islands between me and where i believed they were
    4) sent a suicidal awacs or the fleet (if you feel the awacs cannot be spared ....needlefish can be replaced) to approach elwood from genetix to make sure they hadnt repositioned (because its what i would have done in bobs shoes ...and im not sure but i think he actually did) and send a seal to ignious on a spotting mission .. they may have dealt with it quickly but its small enough that the needlefish may just miss it getting through in all the confusion of the torpedo counter strike
    4) made finding the enemy whilst i regrouped my top priority ....you cant fight with guesses and hunches people
    5) FIND THE ENEMY
    6) used the time and distance i had hopefully placed between us to finally regroup and repair (speed would be more prudent while running) and sent whatever fleet i had at this point (i say this just in case i sent some instead of the awacs earlier) to bounce any incoming carriers from duessa or at least cause a distraction to the east of the island they were attacking
    Remember you can afford to lose a few needlefish, you are buying time here
    Easy to say in hindsight ...but cap got too wrapped up in defending himself and forgot that carriers are mobile and he has a whole map to play with and put himself out of manta range
    He let the enemy dictate what he was doing too much
    But simply put if the enemy thinks they know you are to the south ....attack from the north (or east in this case)

      We disembarked the rover purposefully to get rid of that advantage. When they did get underway we did briefly loose contact with caps carrier, but the escorting needlefish gave them away. Had they run separately they might have slipped away and it would have been much harder to find them again. Agree that intel was the critical element here. We started the episode east of beltempest poised to take Bacchus, but decided against it and headed north to Genetix.

    Carrier warfare is all about projecting power. This means AWACS, CAP and don't let enemy planes anywhere near your carrier. At no moment you did any effort to pinpoint the location of their carrier to enable you to launch a strike ( which is just what carriers are for! ) You remained mainly static instead of moving all over the place to keep enemy guessing where you are. And after the last torpedo hit, when you could have disengaged to fight another day, you decided to reenact the charge of the light brigade!!! All in all it was like looking nowadays a drunk russian admiral fighting ukranians in the black sea! 🤣 Apart of that, a very entertaining video. 👋👍

    Lil bit of a bummer that those rockets are so OP, you would hope one bird with rockets couldn't single handedly significantly change the fight.
    ...but, hey, ya know what the strategy is next go around though!!! LOL
    Really dig this game and these campaigns, they're a lot of fun - it's almost like an unscripted Hollywood war movie or something, fun ride!

    I've been calling for massed rocket strikes since campaign 1 lol.
    Is there no capability for a multi-role escort ship? Like a Tico or Arleigh-Burke or even an OHP? Just a hull with combined anti-missile/anti-air defense.

      Unfortunately player built needlefish are limited to a single weapon system, even though they have slots for 2. The choices are cwis (100 rnds), 160mm cannon (20 rnds), torpedo (2), and cruise missile (6). Player needlefish cannot have aa missiles or noismakers. This also applies to the needlefish the ai carrier builds.

    That was such poor SA and defence. You should have had two AA mantas on CAP constantly, with CWIS needlefish in a defensive screen. Made it way too easy for Bob I'm afraid.

    You need a constant CAP over the carrier of at least 1 manta. Aren't the needlefish/swordfish able to use CIWS too to help the carrier?

      The CWIS needlefish were indeed helping defend and assisted shooting down at least 2 mantas on the first attack. Unfortunately they ran out of ammo. They can be resupplied by the carrier, however only the 2 closest positions of the escort formation are close enough for that, so you have to order them closer when the fleet is stationary to properly re-arm/re-fuel them.

    Is it possible to model and create missions for upgraded F-5 variants (eg. modern avionics, data-linking to ground radar, helmet-mounted displays) such as those used by Brazil and Chile, in DCS (link in first reply)?

    Great battle, and it didn't matter that you lost. Don't get me wrong, I'm routing for the reapers, but an occasional loss makes it feel more real.
    Have you considered a battle with two human crewed carriers, against a superior number of AI carriers (to make up for AI being AI...). That would be epic, lots of boom-boom, many interesting strategic decisions, and plenty of opportunity for dramatic situations.

    Would one MOAB sink an aircraft carrier? If not how many would it take and could the Bone be fitted to carry it so they could perform multiple lofted throws ak lowish level drops pulling high gs to throw the MOAB so it can use its fins to guide itself in?

      @@enoch52 a single one? I doubt it. They detonated an atomic bomb next to a carrier after WW2 and it was still afloat. Carriers are extremely resilient but at MOAB could kill a good portion of the crew due to just the pressure wave so the ship could be out of the fight just from that.

    Well, I think bobcat was just too potent an adversary but its clear that it was more about making "good tv" because otherwise I cant conceive of why, having looked at the map, someone of cap's obvious skills wouldn't have taken the time to even the odds and shake the team out, build a store of resources and hit Bob only once he felt they were gelled.
    But, hes only got an hour and CC wont have brought in the same revenue on youtube.
    Which is a crying shame as the game's need to multitask and coordinate brought out some soap opera between the players thats lacking when they are on DCS.
    Really enjoyed this.

    I like how cap goes outside to watch where he's completely no use for commanding, and then also tries to see if the missiles connect but is wrong each time when the "command screen" tells you instantly if theyre hits or not😅 Silly Cap

    Major mistake- rule number 1 in combat if you arent moving your dead. You stayed too long in your starting position. Should have cut hard west and had some SAM needlefish on picket duty running overlapping coverage. Got in between your own islands and had SAM coverage to provide extra AA. Just a US Navy Chiefs two cents lol. Fun campaign though

    Are you using a mod that lets you repair to only 50% and regain function of the weapons? My game has to repair to 100% before they will work again.

    @Grim Reapers 😢im atm shouting at the skies Darn it, darn it, DARN IT……….DARRRRRN IT………….#@&#ing DAAAAARRRRRRN IT 🤬, whilst jumping up n down, stamping my feet in anger like a spoiled 4 year old. On a more rational view tho I honestly think that this game has quite a few flaws in it that allows a player totally dominate the map & allows a carrier to go down with 1 aircraft & rockets. Just doesn’t seem right😢

      While the rockets are certainly extremely effective at taking down subsystems, they do little hull damage. Most of the hull damage from the early attacks was coming from IR missiles, only which a few were shown. I do agree though that rockets could use a slight nerf.

      I fired most of the rockets in that game. Whilst they are useful for suppressing the carrier’s air defences they do very little hull damage. The other guys did most of the damage using IR missiles, and a few bombs.
      Our plan was to hide the location of our carrier and keep blue team on the defensive. It worked this time.

    Cap, unfortunately the PVP in this game isn't balanced very well. The rockets are overpowered as hell compared to the other attacks, as you can spend 20 hours in this game and die in less than 30 minutes from two waves of planes with rockets. It seems well-tuned for AI though. Now that you know how to "play" the game within the game, the next round should go better. Cheers.

      Actually the rockets were not doing much hull damage. We used them to soften up and disable the defenses and followed up with IR missiles which were doing the bulk of the hull damage. Actually almost ran out of them.

      @@cylindricalbobcat5701 It was just really frustrating not being able to see an epic drawn-out battle. I was looking forward to seeing missile-after-missile launching from Cap's side with torpedoes being traded in addition to taking the hits they received. Some cannon fire and engagement with the escort ships would have been fun too. A furball if you will...
      Maybe this reply helped narrow down what I would change. The player carriers should just have much, much more health. Perhaps not the hull itself, but the sub-systems seemed to go down very easily (one Manta with rockets took down most if I recall?).

      @@jamison884 Agree, the carriers do feel fragile. A single cruise missile does around 20% damage, And I've seen a 20 round gun barrage take down a carrier from 100%. Wonder if a mod can buff carrier hp.

      What Bob said. If you watch the video back you’ll see that only one attacking manta was ever carrying rockets. Whilst I was in the rocket manta keeping the air defences busy, the others were the ones actually doing the real damage following up with IR missiles.
