Sew an Autumn Coat With Me

- Hey everyone!
I hope you are all having a lovely day. In my video today I am showing you the sewing portion of my autumn coat I have been working on. This project was very difficult for me but has ended up being really rewarding. I’m so proud at how it turned out and have worn it lots since finishing it.
The jacket is made from a thrifted micro suede and a thrifted viscose lining. It took just under 2 M of fabric for both suede and lining. I made a size 42 grading out to a 46 at the hip area. I omitted the snaps and sewed buttons on instead (I have a huge button stash!) the pattern was #106burda082022
This project has been done for over a month but I was having some technical difficulties with my editing software. I hope you guys enjoy.
😘 Carly

You are so brave to do this on camera. I’m sewing as I watch and I wouldn’t want anyone looking over my shoulder!
I almost gave up a couple times!!
Awesome job, Carly! ❤. Enjoy your coat. This turned out so nicely, I may need to pull this issue out. Thanks for sharing😊👏👏👏
You should! Thanks for the watching!!
That is a daunting project. Well done.
Thank you!
The coat turned out so good! Love the colour and the style :) your jaw clenching comment made me chuckle :D now flaunt your new make!
Yes my jaw is where I hold my stress!! Thank you!
Good job! The coat looks awesome! After this, everything will feel easy.
I hope so! Thanks for watching!!
Kudos on this coat!! You tackled suede, a welt pocket, and a new garment type all in one go! Love how it turned out Carly!
Thank you so much!! Now I am ready for some super easy projects 😂
I think the collar looks great! You did a wonderful job! I don't think the coat looks plain at all; outerwear is suppose to compliment your garments, not steal the show. I know exactly how you feel about cutting so close to the seam. I've learned to fray check the area where I have to cut so close and let the fray check dry before I cut; if I'm really impatient I might cover it with a press cloth and touch it with the iron to dry it. I also try to use a small stitch length in those areaa. The key to welt pockets for me is cutting right up to the very corner. I've even seen a video of someone cutting close and then using a seam ripper to cut the last thread she didn't get with the scissors! I think you are totally correct about the machine needles. It's something really difficult to describe but when your machine makes a different sound when stitching- sort of like it's bouncing, it's time to either change the needle because it's dull or because it's not the right size or kind. And some fabrics require more than one needle for a project. I made some pot holders with Insulbright and I had to use multiple needles when quilting the layers together. Just listen to your machine and it will tell you when you need to change needles. Funnily enough I'm not one of those people who change my needle with every project, but only when the stitch quality or the machine tells me to. I'm so glad you persevered. I hope every time you put that coat on it reminds you of how you can sew anything you set your mind to.
Thank you so much. Your kind words mean the world to me. That’s an awesome tip about cutting to the very corner. I will have to try it next time! 💕
Good job.
Thank you! Cheers!
