I applaud your efforts doing these type repairs. But you could have taken a piece of steel and flipped the case upside down and laid it on that piece of steel. Then cut a patch of aluminum to fit pretty close from the inside to fit the hole. Then merely aluminum weld around the edges and you would be finished, except to clean up and polish... Just an idea.
Great job, but I'm not sure that you revealed the secret. First time I tried to weld some cast aluminum, it quickly went bloop into a blob of useless aluminum. Next time I used a TIG welder, and it turned out much better. Amazing that you are able to do this with a flame torch.
What a shit, The amount of time and gas you wasted, instead of that, you should put it, on a flat surface in reverse and put melted aluminium on it, it would have given you, much more smooth and perfect joint
