This reminds me how I and my cousin used to play chess. We replaced the pieces with Pokemon-figurines, and added types and special powers accordingly. My Misdreavus-queen who could move through other pieces was pretty OP.
Me and my brother did something like this once. Different pieces had different attacks you could use to take out pieces in addition to the regular way.

I can't believe they would nerf my side like this. The two sets play very differently and this "balancing" is just an attempt to draw in more casuals at the expense of the current meta. G5 is obviously more important than B4, so my side is now just in omnishambles. I still have hope they will fix this in the next patch, but if not, I will have no other choice but to quit playing.

So I need a judge on this... So my gigantic king moved ona acid trap but in response I activated my power card "follow the priest" allowing it to switch with my lv.8 bishop that already had indestructibility until the charge wore off but then my opponent laid "fusion cycle" causing me to sacrifice a bishop with 400 xp so I reserected my other bishop but then I got hit with a "blizzard of knives causeing all the pieces surrounding the gigaking to take 200 points of damage so can I sacrifice my bishop while it is on the blue square activating multiball and does multiball trigger before the bishop dies to knives or do I lose my gigaking all my bishops and a pawn leading up to 10000 Xp so I could lay "raise the lost and win by attacking with my angel or deaths wings flying above me?

On my turn I equip Skullknight to this one Black Pawn piece, and in response to it dying, I sac it to Bishnod's Altar. Skullknight triggers, I draw two power cards, The Pawn King triggers, I get two black Pawns. I can repeat this process as long as I want. I play Labrooktory Maniac, and draw my last few power cards to win the game.

Also, found a bug with the new Chess rules. If Multiball comes into play after activating the Giga King Acid Trap, then any pawns left on the field are stuck in place. Workaround: Continue playing with the rest of the pieces, using "Viking Secret Wildcard Poker" rules to determine which pawn to sacrifice towards summoning the Caravan of Infinite Sands.
That is not a bug. That's a direct result of the Giga King Acid Trap. However, to unstick all the pawns, play power card #328756849, and you get 2 Giga Kings. When they pass over Multiball for the 2nd time in 17 turns, then the pawns get unstuck, but all cards named Caravan of Infinite Sands are removed from the game. It's really simple, when you think about it.
Honestly, I'd say white moving twice every 4th move would be significantly stronger than a queen, especially with a lot of material on the board. Maybe trap cards change things though.

I played this version of Chess with my brother. It was fun, but acid traps are dumb, and the dual queen black gets totally changes their playstyle, and creates bias towards different sides based on playstyles. I hope the new patch (based on player demand, of course) fixes the pawn-moving-backward "bug", reverting it back, 'cause that's just unfair. Also, our power-decks were exactly identical based only on what they said, so only 6 card types, but eh, still good.
David Sirlin, designer of yomi, puzzle strike, kongai, and other games, actually did make an update to chess. It's called chess 2, you can choose between multiple armies, there's an alternate win condition, and there's a bidding system that you can use to protect pieces. It's weird but fun and you can play it with a normal chess board.
There's something similar to the power cards, at least, called Knightmare chess... The best part is the set comes with blank cards, so you can make your own. It wouldn't take too much tweaking to make this set work with New Chess... If someone came up with official rules.

You can call it balancing all you want, but Hearthstone points out that having second initiative drastically changes the way you play. Not to mention that most games are literally by the books, due to a lack of synergy between pieces. But luckily, I have the answer. It's a mix of having multiple balls on the field, a 'nuke' token and several Large Hydron Colliders to accentuate the new Kamikaze and Heal spells.
this could be a pretty interesting game... the closest analogy is that some one I once met was making a game like this called dragon chess. last I heard it was doing fairly well.

Every time a ball touches an orange square on the initial drop, or "D-1" as players with any experience knows it, their trap type is randomly changed with rolls of the dice. Then, wherever the balls come to rest becomes an obstacle square, requiring all pieces with strength of less then 32 to either go around or fly over. You can remove the obstacles by taking a piece with at least 100 XP and flicking the ball in a random direction (determined by piece facing, windage and 2D30 rolls), but beware! Any balls that are flicked in this manner (or balls that are hit and thus ricochet, called "free radicals" for short) and that hit a piece instantly fling that piece to the exact opposite side of the board! And if another game piece is in that square, one of several things happen depending on their equivalent power level, XP, and current stats: for those of lesser power, they are "telefragged" and removed from the game; equal power pieces (rare) are "super-positioned" over to the square the original piece came from; and those of greater power with mind controlling powers (or if the Hive-Mind power card has been played by the opposing player) instantly convert that piece to their side and can either consume it for XP or force it to suicide bomb their own team, though their movement becomes similar to how a knight moves (not quite, different for each piece) because of imprecise control. See? Simple, logical, and totally in line with today's hip new Chess scene!

To this day this game is super unballanced.. I started to play chess because I loved the character design of pawn and wanted to onetrick him but its leterally unplayable. Fixing some bugs doesn't make him viable enough ffs

This si really funny and reminds me of how I feel when WotC changes magic the Gathering.
I get the feeling there was some pent-up resentment re: the games industry on this one...
To this day this game is super unballanced.. I started to play chess because I loved the character design of pawn and wanted to onetrick him but its leterally unplayable. Fixing some bugs doesn't make him viable enough ffs
