I ask you do your own research and come to your own conclusions as to what a Parnis is and does. . Special shout out to Dan C, from Michigan who was kind enough to send a stranger his watches for review.

I have just received a PARNIS sub,it says on the Ad it has a Miyota movement but I have not opened it yet.
It has a great build quality for the price £65.00 yes i'm in England :) it is keeping good time and basically I love it.
I also own 2 Rolex a Yachtmaster mk1 and a Datejust and not going to compare them as I love my Rolexes too.
Hey the 1st person to see my new PARNIS asked if it was a R sub,it is a watch you can wear Daily and not worry about it getting scratched or dented or whatever,I might even buy another in blue !
    Great review WT LA.

Had my Parnis 200m Diver (the one with ploprof handset!) 4 weeks now and it's sat consistently at +4/5 seconds a day straight out of the box. Can't fault it. Sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel at this price is great. Took scotchbrite to polished centre links of bracelet and it looks spot on now. A good daily beater so far.

You're reviewing a GMT watch and have no idea there is time zones that have half an hour offset? Really? You only need to look to India. Duh.

    • @5naxalotl

exactly. and these half-hour time zones drive rolex owners nuts. kujos for parnis getting this right

Regarding the GMT moving independently: there are half hour timezones. So you need that option.

Legally speaking, none of these watches designs are patented. Only the movements are and some movements patents have expired. Rolex only has trademark. As long as they don’t market them as Rolex or using proprietary movements that are under many patents than they are in the legal.

Common movements right now are : the Seagull (25xx series) automatic, the Miyota Automatic (Japanese movement, owned by Citizen). There is a quartz movement, but I'm not 100% sure who makes that.
I've got Seagull and Miyota movements in Parnis watches. The rotors are a little loud and clunky. They keep time pretty well. The case / weight / straps are all decent material. If you buy from Parnis direct you'll get 316L stainless cases and bracelets (where not Leather).
I was pretty sceptical about these watches, but as a watch to wear either doing things you wouldn't want to wear an Omega / Rolex / Panerai to do or go places where you wouldn't want to have that much money on your wrist for the world to see - well, you're getting a pretty good deal.
I've heard lots of complaints about build quality / performance. That is why a) I buy from the official parnis website and b) I go for movements that are named, because at least if it is Dead On Arrival and/or the vendors stops existing or honours warranty - then I can always go to eBay / Amazon and get a movement replacement for a reasonable sum of money.

  • @MikeAustin2012
    @MikeAustin2012 5 років тому +1

I have replaced the spring bars with better grade 1.5mm and 80% or more of that movement went away. ( I'm talking about the slop in the end links) I own this same one, ($85 usd on eBay) Ceramic and sapphire. The face is SHARP black, nothing like the faded black face on the Alpha GMT. I like this watch a lot. I don't surf or swim like I do with Invictas but shower and washing hands is no problem so far.
I think this Parnis GMT is a very good deal for the money.

Sea-Gull is the highest volume manufacturer of watch movements in the world and has been making watch movements since 1955. They make excellent movements, including tourbillons in addition to many gorgeous watches that aren't "low end". You WANT a Parnis with a Sea-Gull movement. Invicta uses Sea-Gull movements in some watches and it's a selling point. I own a Parnis with a Sea-Gull movement, and it's more accurate than the Orient and Seikos I own. It also hacks and has a power reserve indicator -- in a $100 watch. When I heard you say they are low quality movements -- sorry. I bailed on your video.

NickTrop - I was just going by the research I did. I understand and respect your opinion. I am currently wearing a watch I paid .50 cents for. I restored it and could not be happier. Enjoy your watch, whatever it may be.

      @NickTrop 5 років тому +2

@@abacrombe21 appreciate your feedback. Don't know where you did your research but it's simply not the case. If you're going to go Chinese, you actually WANT a Sea-Gull movement. That's the only point I'm trying to make. They're being compared to Swiss movements at a fraction of the price. I appreciate your reply.

Nobody will. Cause you can't. These Luxury-Chinese do things for $50-$100 which other companies would Charge you $500-$1000 for.Look at the Didun Design Royal Oak Hommage. Automatic, decorated rotor, sapphire Crystal, solid end links, machined folding clasp, Hand winding and hacking, screw down crown. Costs $58.
For Christ's sake, Seiko's $300 models come with Mineral Crystal, and an inaccurate 7S26 movement without hacking or Hand winding with a water resistance of 100m.

Sea Gull is one of the biggest producers of movements in the world and they are very good. Some of them are superb and easily a match and even better than ETA. Parnis is a homage watch producer. We all know this. No issues with this. Customer service is excellent and they are a very open company.

I have the Parnis GMT, and it's been. . . interesting. It worked very well for a while and was only off a few seconds per day. At some point, it quit holding a charge, and would die even while wearing. No amount of hand winding seemed to help, so I put it away for months. Recently, I decided to go give it a try again. For some reason, it's been running great for about 5 days now. Doesn't die overnight, doesn't die while wearing, and is quite accurate. I have no idea what the hell is going on with this damn watch. If it were consistent in operation, I'd say it's a great watch for the priced, but not knowing why it just quit winding and then magically started winding again, I can't recommend it. I've even let it sit for more than 24 hours without wearing it and it was still ticking.

Parnis have two production lines. One branded, one not
The unbranded ones go to other companies to have their own name put on the dial.
But here's the rub, the Parnis branded watches are of better quality.
So if you're looking on eBay, get one that says Parnis on the dial even tho it'll be a bit more expensive.

I don't know if this is a Seagull movement or just an iteration of the Tongji Standard Chinese Movement. I'm inclined to say the latter. If they come out of a factory with good quality control they are pretty robust and will last a long time. Perhaps not as accurate as an ETA or Ronda movement but you get what you pay for. If you buy any of the cheap Chinese automatics they all use a variation of the SCM and with the less expensive brands the build quality is hit and miss. You can get a good one and then you can get a crappy one with loose hands on the adjustment phase and crappy time keeping. Great unbiased review here...keep up the good work!

The Parnis GMT's bough off of Ebay most likely use the MingZhu DG2813 movement rather than the advertised Miyota on the official store.
Ebay quality vs Official store quality both differ, as they also explain it on their site, which also explains the gap between online prices and the higher listed web page prices.

DG3804 inside ($40). The GMT version of the DG2813 ($10). They sound like sand when you wind them and don't last very long. About 4 beats per sec. Error can be between -+10 sec to -+30 sec per day. This is the typical movement found in replica Rolex watches in the $80 - $140 range. Higher end replicas ($160-$500) use cloned ETA 2824 & 2836 movements. About 6 beats per sec. Far superior to the DG line.

I have heard that Parnis does not lubricate their movements in an effort to keep the price low. Which might explain the 'gummy' movement of the GMT hand and date wheel. If I were to buy one, I'd strip it down immediately and clean and lubricate it properly. Then it would last for years versus weeks or months.

Just received my Parnis GMT a couple of days ago, but it seems to be having an issue internally. The watch is running 5-7 seconds too fast PER MINUTE! It's also dying overnight (about 9 hours unworn) This definitely isn't normal. Does anyone who has this watch have the same issue? Or is it just an issue with mine? Already contacted them directly about it, but would like to hear any other examples.

I'd try running it through a demagnetizer, sounds like your balance spring could be magnetized, your local watch maker should have one and it's a very quick process, if not you can get one on ebay or amazon for around $50. . Good luck with it.

If it were consistent in operation, I'd say it's a great watch, but not knowing why it just quit winding and then magically started winding again. I've even let it sit for more than 24 hours without wearing it and it was still ticking.

Not to mention the crown which is minuscule and hard to pull out to manoeuvre. To me the Parnis with the advantage of a sapphire crystal and a ceramic bezel looks definitely the better deal.

    A. Where did he buy it? If purchased on eBay you can understand the movement being a knockoff to Parnis! According to Parnis website this would be a low cost vs a premium that the website describes. B. Parnis is using a Miyota 8215 movement and the quality should be better. I just ordered a Gauss 03 and will let you know what I come up with. Their website has a lot of good information that breaks down these things you reviewed. My only thing about the website is the lack of pictures you can view. Otherwise, one of the best websites I have seen for their products. And their response time to an email is by far the best I’ve dealt with.
