Your build quality is off the charts. You could even add a rooftop carrier for extra water proof storage. Looking forward to seeing your adventures in this build.
Bro this is so solid. I'm 5'7 and everyone kept telling me I need the 6 ft bed access cab or dub cab (both look awkward and you sacrifice the shorter wheel base which handles so much nicer off road with the Tacoma short bed). Anyway, I've been racking my brain over whether to go full size truck or 4 runner instead of the taco dub cab 5 ft bed.. but this build just completely sold me on the 5 ft and the possibilities.. 11/10 man!
Great video, love the Tacoma build. Would you consider making your plans available or a cut list? My truck is my baby and I also don’t want to hack it up. The functionality and practicality of what you have done is amazing and pretty much what I’m looking to do to my Tacoma. Keep up the great content.
Like it a lot. Have a similar topper on a Tundra, so I can offer this suggestion: a bike tire tube between the cap and rear window inflated to 3-4 psi stays in place around the rear sliding window, makes a pretty good watertight seal, and allows for climate control through the whole space, front to back. A small rectangular fan can get velcro-ed right into the gap of the pass through, such that the front/ truck window can still close over it. For the times you are not needing your portable AC, you can then pull fresh air in from the cab, through a slightly cracked window under your vent shades, and on through to the back. Your Jackery would be right below the fan for power, very low draw (maybe 5 watts) for overnight. Just throwing it out there, works great for me. Keeps fresh air coming in through to the back so it doesn't get stuffy in the tight topper space. Like the build!
Excellent build and very well thought out! On that a/c, you will want to duct that intake outside. Otherwise it’s just pulling outside air into the cab and blowing your cooled air out.
you could also use those j tracks as an attach point for your dogs when traveling. I had a friend who would drive around with her dog all the time and she got in a rollover accident and her dog died. she felt so guilty and kept saying if she kept him in a kennel/enclosure or had his harness tied down/seat belted somehow he could have survived. Might want to look into making it a dog seatbelt of some kind lol
Awesome build! You inspired me to build out a bed system in my '14 Taco short bed. I built a 20" wide x 58" deep drawer vs the short one you built. Your battery storage and solar inverter system are rad too! Excellent work, man! Thanks again for the inspiration! I think I'll follow your lead and delete my rear seats too! Rarely, if ever, have passengers in rear seat.
I did something EXTREMELY similar on just the driver side for 40% delete using the factory seat hinges as well, I left the other side for my pup to have her space on car rides. Super small suggestion that I found made some access easier, the plastic lids to the under seat storage quickly snap off so I just removed it. That way when you lean the platform forward you don't also have to lift the plastic lid as well. Just a thought, it works for me since the cubby is already covered by the platform!
Very nice! I have an old 4 runner and this gave me some good ideas. Appreciate it. I have 2 little dogs as well. You could use that track system to hook a short leash to the chi chi’s s harness to keep something from happening to them if you had to slam on brakes. Tacoma may be in my future:)
Loving the content, sparks some great ideas! Looks like the carpet you got for the rear seat delete would match better with the bed liner and the carpet in the bed build would match the toyota carpet lol
This is fantastic! You gained a sub from me man. We enjoy kayaking and camping. I would love to do a bed build like this. But we haul our electric bikes in the back. I might get a bike rack one day for the hitch and then build something in the back for sleeping. I was thinking of doing a diy cabin on the back so i could use the tailgate space as well. Keep up the great work man!
Really enjoy your builds! I built a trailer very similar to your adventure trailer to haul all our outdoor toys behind my Suburban and its been one of my useful projects to date.
I know this is late, and you probably do not remember, but do you remember the dimensions for the actual delete plywood. The plywood that attaches to the Tacoma plates that folds up and down. I'm following for a while. I've got a short bed as well. Thanks for any advice.
It is a nice build. Did you consider a way to prevent the build from flipping forward during hard braking or a front end collision? It looks like you might be able to latch to the factory d ring on the floor.
This and the previous video are very informative and very helpful, as I have a Hilux which is also a short bed truck and there's not many videos showing a set up. Do you plan on doing any more videos regarding short bed camping I think it'll be a great idea seeing this set up in practice.
Nicely done. I have a 2019 Tundra and have been thinking about doing something similar. I've had it long enough now I think I'm ready to do some mods. Are there any drawbacks to the topper?
I absolutely love my topper. it’s been the best addition to my truck so far! I didn’t really use my bed for much before but now it’s like a whole new truck area. Do it, you won’t regret it 🤙🏼
what kind of plywood did you use? i'm thinking of doing a similar build. Not sure if i should use pressure treated wood? I want my dogs to go in the back as well and they will be wet, etc so i'm thinking pressure treated, and probably wont angle it as my goofball of a dog would like fall off and get hurt
I would not use pressure treated, just use regular 3/4” plywood. Pressure treated wood will shrink and warp on you as it drys. 🤙🏼 Good luck with your build and thanks for watching the videos!
You didn’t, I will be adding it in an upcoming video. I couldn’t figure out exactly how I wanted to incorporate it while I was filming this video. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
Dude you have the dog free range in the back seat lift area you made….. slam on the brakes and its a projectile into your windshield, splat, game over.
Your build quality is off the charts. You could even add a rooftop carrier for extra water proof storage. Looking forward to seeing your adventures in this build.
Thanks! I definitely plan to add more to it, I’d like to incorporate a rooftop shower system and awning next 🤙🏼 Thanks for the support!

Awesome- the ideas in my mind are running rampant. Love love love the fact that you're making sure everything looks custom, not clunky! Total respect.
I appreciate that!! Thanks for watching! 👊🏼

It's a late comment but this is a quality build.

Glad I watched this, I'm also looking to get into camping while kayaking and wondered about a fridge. You solved that problem perfectly.

Very good job well thought out
Very nice work!
Nice work! Very impressive !! Giving me some motivation for my upcoming retirement time to fill 🤣
Hey buddy wait for a bit and GFC will be releasing their Super lite 2.0. Its like 80 ish lbs and you can get quick releases.
Well done, man. 👍
Great job TJ, appreciate your overland videos (not a kayak guy….yet). Looking forward to the next videos with truck out on trips. Thanks again 🙏
Thanks 👍 I appreciate the support!
@15:01 to @15:27. Pure Genius! 😎

I appreciate you watching, those trailer builds are very useful 🤙🏼
That’s so awesome and very clean. I really like your ideas
Nice build! The back strip under the platform to level it out, what was the measurements on that??

Turned out awesome TJ. Well done.
Thanks Rob 🤙🏼
Great info my friend.
Thanks 👍
This is the video I’ve been looking for. Did the exact build on the truck bed thanks to you. Do you have a link to the foam mattress?

Amazing work and very inspiring. 😊
Thank you!
When I took the back seats out of mine the road noise in the cab got considerably louder while driving.
Looks awesome.
Thanks man!
This is Amazing!
Thanks! 👊🏼
So dope! Love your builds
Appreciate it! 🤙🏼

@@KayakUSA1 what solution is any do you have to prevent or limit dust getting into the back of the bed
Brilliant ideas! Subscribed
Awesome! Thank you!
sick build ! by chance do you have the link for the mattress you used ? i’m building my setup using your design haha
Hopefully you see this, but for your kayak kart build. Can you tell us that screws and bolts you use for the build and the carpet.
I just used 2” deck screws on the build and 1/2” flat screws for the carpet. 🤙🏼
By any chance do you have a link to the net you have on the back wall of the cab?
I don’t but I think it’s just a stretch cargo net from Amazon 👍🏼
Giggidy 😂
😂
I caught it too! 😂 The mind of us men.😂

If you were to buy a new Tacoma, would you buy a 5 or 6 fly bed?
Great build! Does the drawer that you put in under the bed only go to where the wheel well is, or does it go the full length of the truck bed? Thanks!
It goes to the wheel well. But then there’s another secret storage compartment. I went over it in the bed build video. Subscribe 👍🏼
@@KayakUSA1 Thank you.
