Is there a way to do this without adding cloth tag? Trying to add lights to a rope, similar to Christmas lights. The geometry of the lights starts to bend and warp like cloth.
thank you very much for this tutorial. I was losing my mind to create this rope simulation in C4D 2023 without using the spring. Using cloth instead of rigid body is not very intuitive. I wouldn't have found this out without your help.
UPDATE! Thanks to one of my viewers, Muratz, there is a workaround for attaching rope to complex objects using the Cloth tag. ua-cam.com/video/SLnyucafG8U/v-deo.html
Thanks for this, helpful getting to grips with the rope system. Now, maybe you can help me - I'm trying to do beads on a string. I want the string of beads to fall over an object and bounce off the floor. I can attach my bead shapes cloned onto my rope spline - which was giving me a huge headache earlier when I was trying to do it with bullet tags. BUT now the beads are going through the floor, though the rope doesn't. I've tried putting a cloth tag on the beads, but that makes them super floppy... the bullet tags either explode everywhere or do nothing... any ideas would be helpful thanks!
Hello! Nice tutorial but i am trying to get the opposite result (a rope hanging from an object that doesn't fall will gravity but just makes small movements that the rope should follow), how can i do that in Cinema 2023? thanks
this comment has been asked twice already but no one has answered, so i'll ask it again. Is there a way to do this with the object attached being a rigid body? Since the cloth tag is required, and the legacy "bullet" tags don't work for the attachment tag, I cannot figure out how to make the attached object rigid. thanks
I have an update video posting today to show a workaround solution. The problem with Mix Animation is it unnaturally holds the cloth like the old Follow Position system, so watch my updated video...ua-cam.com/video/SLnyucafG8U/v-deo.html
If i want to bind something more complex my problem is, that the cloth enginge will deform my binded object. if i try to prevent that with mix animation than it won't move anymore. how do i bind something wich shoul behave lige a solid?
The Channel Owner has pinned the explanation about the issue here but I wanna add something about that. Yes, the new 2023 rope dynamics sucks when it comes to hang an object on spline. Cloth tag is not right for it. It deforrmes. Maxon should have fixed it but they do not care or their influencers do not give true feedback. I am a little upset because ı am on a job that inside I have to simulate some wires iron weights hanging on. I tried many things. I attached object with cloth tag and make those cloth objects constraint to my main objects. Give them no dynamics, and all kind of dynamics. I tried adding connector (where the motor option is), rig object to other and so. They didn't work as you see. The old hair dynamics was better. In comparision up, the problem of streching endlessly is the adaptiveness of spline I guess. If you make it uniform it could have gone well. Everybody has to write this issue to Maxon and get a solution update.
Thank you for this post. I have spoken to Maxon and this is their reply... "Thank you for reaching out the Maxon technical support. Since the rework of the simulation system with Cinema 4D 2023, you have currently two simulation systems, that are not compatible to each other. If you want to connect in 2023 objects with a rope, you have to add a cloth tag to the object and use a Connector. I add you a example file. @@VizualAnimation Thank you for your interest. BTW I've found the closest solution by using mesh deformer and soft body tag together. I use a cube and give all cloth dynamics to cube. Then I get my main object into that by using mesh deformer. It seems working in my project. You can try and do it better maybe. And I hope Maxon does something more accurate.
Hey i am having an issue when ever i try to attach the hanger to horizontal string the hanger works as a cloth i have dialled down all the settings but still the same issue
Hi Musa This is a known issue that I believe will be added to future updates to the software. The only work around is to remesh the object you are hanging so it has less geometry, then add as many soft body poles as possible to help to stiffen it up.
@@VizualAnimation hmmm thats weird tho im using the latest build (2023.2) and the attached object is a simple cube.... im probably missing something here. But anyway thanks for the response for now i do it in houdini 🙂
@@3rdDim3nsn3D I'm getting the same problem in 2023 where it stretches way too much (probably to infinity) and no settings seems to affect the stretchiness. My spline is 8 inches long with with a .2" radius hexagon. I tried adjusting the gravity but it doesn't help.
@@3rdDim3nsn3D After playing around with things I realized that the number of subdivisions in the spline (Intermediate points) makes a huge difference to the stretchiness - the less subdivisions, the less the stretchiness.
To answer the questions about using the rope simulation with the old bullet rigid body… I am currently experiencing the same issue when using more complex objects with 100’s of polygons. You’re right as the rope simulation only attaches to objects with the new Cloth tag. My workaround for now until a new rigid body is added to the simulation system is to add a Cloth tag and add Soft Body and make the softness 0% then add 50 connecting poles to help stiffen everything up. It’s not perfect, but with a bit of tweaking you can get the Cloth to act more like a rigid body. I will continue to research this and if I find any other solutions I will update this comment.
Appreciate the response. I cannot for the life of me get the soft body cloth tag to act anything even remotely close to rigid. seems like an oversight on maxon's part. I can't imagine it would have taken much to add a new rigid body tag. From a programming perspective rigid body properties are much easier to code than soft bodies. Guess i'll hang in there. Cheers!
I was experiencing that today. Complex geo on a microphone hanging from the cable. Unbelievably I couldn't do something THAT basic. I ended up just just using the the old way with the spring object, which by the way attaches perfectly once you cache the rigid body. Took my a hot minute to figure out that little tidbit too. lol
thank you so much! I could only find tuts for older versions and you tutorial just explains everything I needed!
This was super helpful. Not a lot of comparison tutorials like this. Thank you!!!
that looks pretty sweet at 16:19 whooo haha
This was really helpful for me, exploring C4D, I now know not to waste my time trying to learn "the old way". Thanks
Great - many thanks for sharing!

This update was incredible! 🎉
Great tutorial, i searched for quite a lot and yours is definitely one of the better if not the best! Thanks a lot!
Wow, thanks!

Thanks for watching!
Thank you! But why not "rope belt" tag instead of "connector"?
thank you! very helpful
Thx for video

also thanks, been helpful

So I'm trying to do this with a sphere in 2024, but the cloth tag is making it so that it stretches where the points meet.
I have a tutorial coming soon that addresses all of these issues. I hope that will help 🤞🏻

Check the Mix-Animation tab. There you can stiff your cloth as far as it behaves like a rigit body

why my rope is stretching into infinity? that is so frustrating!
This should only happen with R25, the new version fixes these issues.
