We need a video of you playing the RoboCop arcade game back there, while talking on your ancient Motorola flip phone. Please!
HAHA I was wondering who would comment on both of those things first!
I loved that Robocop arcade game. I mastered that game when I was 16, basically 100% the bonus rounds and go through the entire game without being hit. That's one of the few arcade games you can beat, as in you get a credit roll and the game ends.
@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial You knew it had to be an Aspie, right? And what can you tell us about the guest badge hanging in-frame?
@@PetesGuide from Jay Leno's Garage!
I'd buy that for a dollar!
Ah wow, I did wonder about this car. I recall a video where you said the "Original KITT' was in private ownership, and the video ended in that way, with no info on where.
The fact it is there to see, is amazing. That original car. That Hood/Bonnet that Michael rubs "just like baby skin" is that very one. amazing.
Well, not the eXACT one, because Joe mentioned it was replaced due to damage. But we get the idea!
Thanks for spending the time to put the spotlight on this car and its history.
Hi, Joe. Thanks for taking the time to make the video, and get this great information out. I look forward to seeing this Kitt one day. 👍
I foresee a future video series to make that car screen accurate again......right?!
If they will let us!!
I'm sure you have a tad bit of knowledge to do that......😉
This is so interesting. As long as all the original KITTs are kept safe & maintained, I'm happy.
And my gosh is that thing still beautiful. I could stare at it all day. 😍
That blind driver architecture is wild.
great video, this is a special car, because its the original hero car and was used so much in the first two seasons
Good stuff as always Joe. Thanks!
I’ve never understood the “contractual” destruction of the train wreck vehicles. I understand that GM and CA may not have wanted “wrecked” vehicles to find their way onto the road [didn’t Joe specify in the Final Verdict vid that the dozen cars they got were pretty much unscathed?] but the abuse the original car suffered was as bad if not worse than simply having been on a train that derailed. And it’s not like the studio was just going to sell them off to be everyday drivers. If they could have survived as genuine tour cars what harm would it have done? I don’t know, is there enough material to do a deep dive into the specifics of that law? lt specified that the cars couldn’t be “sold”, but why could they not have been donated for primary use as tour cars or displays?
Very interesting information and details about this KITT. Good to see this historical KITT being on display :)
Props to Joe for still rocking a 2007ish Motorola RAZR.
I just noticed that too! Can you still even use one in 2024? If so I'm gonna find one.
@@jims_junkI doubt it.
I pulled my SIM out of my iPhone and popped it into my RAZR not too many years ago. Who knows?
@@jims_junk I had one that was still working in 2018.
I liked the RoboCop Arcade Machine in the corner :)
So if there's a possible 6th surviving car, it would be the one that's been mentioned several times that sat for years on the backlot then quietly disappeared long after the others were sold off or crushed. Has there been any investigation into what possibly happened to that car?
Nice glad I caught your upload early wish I was closer would love to help with the semi restoration. Maybe I’ll get out that way this year. I quite enjoy what you guys do. Would love to see you do a crossover between Knight Rider and The A team I’m a fan of both shows, and have seen every episode especially the A-Team. In fact, I would say I’m an A-Team super fan lol. Many vehicles used in Knight Rider appeared on the A-Team.
Which ones, for instance please?
I wish if I was members of Knight Rider historian I love this Channel so much keep up the good work ❤
enjoy your cold winter... its cold here in Phoenix too.. been 70F during the day
When I brought this video up I expected it to be debunking a replica. Not that it would really turn out to be a screen used car!
We like to surprise you every once in a while!
And there was me thinking it might have been the Season 1 stunt car that went missing from Universal after 1988 (after the "wrecking ball") 😂
Come on AJ put the black walls back on, kitt nor the GL looked right with white letter tires as they didn't use them in the show..you guys need to do a video of all the fake Kitts out there in museums that claim to be real which isn't like the one in Gatlinburg at star cars lol
I would love to see the Goodyear Eagle GT tires back on the car that's at the Petersen Museum also. It would look so much better with those tires on it. I get way AJ doesn't want to do it as it's part of the car's history as a tour car from Carl Casper. But it's just my opinion. I personally think the white letter tires throws off the look a little.
Thanks for this interesting video Joe.Are you planning on restoring it to its screen used glory at all? That would be awesome.
Agreed, all surving KITT's should have the original tyres put back on and season accurate dashes too
A car I would like to find a bit more info about is a KITT that was at “The cars of the stars” museum in Keswick, England. I think it may have only been a tour car but it looked amazing all the same. Traveled from Scotland to visit the museum many times just to see KITT however on my last visit before the museum closed down they let me sit in him. My mind was blown and I will never forget it 😊. I believe this KITT may have been moved to the Dezier museum along with the screen used convertible car (which I also had the pleasure of sitting in). Always wondered about the history of this particular KITT however, if by any chance it or any of the parts fitted had been screen used or if it was purely a replica for exhibition…..P.S. Knight Rider is my favourite childhood TV show, Robocop my favourite movie! Beyond jealous you not only have all this awesome Knight Rider stuff but also a Robocop arcade cab!😂
Hi I’ve sat in that car in 1991 and was told it was used in the pilot. It turns out it was a tour car. Whether the Nelson family knew that ,I don’t know but they were extremely kind to me and let me have photos taken inside (otherwise forbidden) as they knew I was a huge fan, something I will always treasure. This then led me to take my car test and buy my first car in 1992 a black 1982 Trans Am which I still own and is a part conversion (no dash or inside consoles but mostly everything else.👍😉
Joe when it comes to Knight Rider facts and info, Google and Wikipedia have nothing on you buddy. :) I was fortunate to sit in KITT twice at two different World of Wheels events, so it's possible that maybe I had the chance to sit in this car. Didn't realize all of the history behind it until now. I'll arrange a visit to see your car in California and while AJ is distracted you can paint over the white letters on KITT. Ha Ha! Thanks for another great video buddy. Be well my friend.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge about KITT watching from South Africa
Some people claim that Knight Rider never got a top ten placing in nielsen ratings which is inaccurate. It reached as high as number 2 in the summer of 1983. Subsequent weeks it got a few top ten placings. It was a massive hit for NBC!
Awesome Work Joe, Thanks 👍👍👍👍 Here in Finland is IT some -8Celsius Cold outside also🥶
Joe, your knowledge is absolutely amazing.
I guess I'm like many followers, super appreciative of this channel.. Am I a huge KR fan? Not really, but of course I grew up with the show and watched it religiously with my brothers. I remember as a young boy thinking the Pontiac (even stock) would be on par with Ferraris and Porsches haha. Little did I know back that it would be the most humble motor to ever be in a Firebird. Now I own many USA vehicles, amongst which a 67 Firebird 400. I really love how good this channel is, Knight Rider is just the 'vessel subject' to experience how amazing the community is and how well these videos are done. Its amazing to see the passion and how serious its taken. Although not my field of expertise, I really take my hat off for that. Love all the vids, the intro, all the love and care that goes into it. Greetings from Amsterdam !
Thank you so much for the kind words!!
@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial awesome work for sure. Love all the vids!
Great video, clarified a lot about that car. I wish the dash would be restored to the season pne condition.
That's great. Although I was hoping it would be the long lost Knight Rider KITT stunt car. You know, the car you like to call the hardest working Knight Rider car in the fleet. A.k.a. The hardtop stunt car, one of two hardtops that would make it the #6 car if it still exists.
Hi Joe! We are looking forward to the video.Thank you.
I saws this post yesterday and thought it was this same KITT. Love this car. Thanks for doing this video.
Good to get a glimpse of the original hero car. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for breaking down the details and facts.
Thank you for the video. As it turns out this museum is not far from where I live, so now I have to go to see this car.
Owning two screen used KITT's is amazing....but imagine giving them both up, and driving home with the ORIGINAL KITT....you have a good shot at it if you do some wheeling and dealing. Original KITT in the original FLAG semi....has a nice ring to it...
While we would love to add this one to our collection, it wouldnt be at the expense of the other two. And techinically, the car in the Petersen that we own is KITT #1. It has the earliest studio numbering, and was one of the Jon Ward nose cars.
@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial So the original car we see on SET isn't the original and you have a more original one, gotcha. In that case I would lobby for the other tractor, have two and two.
I wondered what happened to that car after it left the Kruse Museum, nice to know it’s back on display. Thanks for the info, Joe!
I think it was in the "Car Count" video, didn't you guys say there is a very very slim chance that a sixth car maybe still out there? I think it was the Hardtop Stunt Car.
Its possible! Not confirmed yet though
@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficialit would be nice if it existed.
Good to hear about this KITT, I hope with it been in a museum that it is an original KITT. I would love to know how long they have owned this KITT?
My proudest knight rider moment is sitting in the real season 3/4 hero car.
great video, I bet you have thousands of different pics of the various kitt cars
Great info as always Joe. It may not be screen accurate but it IS original and with all battle scars and proof of utilisation which makes it unique and SCREEN USED👍👍😉
I liked how you're rockin' the classic Motorola Razr phone.
Hi Joe we have a Replica kitt in South Africa Durban District Pinetown Toyota Thekwini displayed in a car show for a charity event it was not original but dash display had twin tv screens lit up and the electronics looked like original very pleasing to view, sat in the car took pics thanks Joe for sharing the history of kitt we in South Africa Durban really appreciate the history you share with us thank you
Thank you!
Awesome research ! And I see a robocop arcade game in background. do u have an arcade room as well ? 😀
I say it's about time to reunite all remaining screen used KITTs in one place at an event, including semi and trailer.
We would be all for that idea!
I’m looking forward to the future video on this
So I’m currently in Dallas for the O’Reilly auto parts conference and the Petersen museum brought some cars for display. But alas KITT did not get to come because they don’t own him. I’m a little sad.
It's true that the museum doesn't own it. But we do know who does.
We sure do.
I miss chatting with Joe we were good freinds
I know many might think this exploration as a tad obsessive, but I need out at this stuff. ❤️
Im in San Diego..the Marconi Museum is on my bucket list...been to the Petersen twice and saw your car there
I’d love to see an in depth video on this car considering it is the original hero car.
How is it original if everything has been changed around and rebuilt for this and that part?
Love seeing that old school razor flip phone on your table
Merci de nous montrer les montages de kitt en images 👍😁
We need the same history for the back up to the hero car / insert car / trick car
You know, listening to you discuss the history of "Knight Rider" and the show's lore, reminds me of Carl Sagan talking about the entire cosmos, in that show he did - I can't remember the name of it off hand. It's very enriching. And I'm glad that your investigation went better than Geraldo Rivera's expose of Al Capone's vault.
Cosmos, or Cosmos: A Personal Voyage
@@SayAhh Cosmos! That was the name of it. Thanks.
What I am interested on is the Motherboard or the Brain of Knight Rider. It was shown few time in the series when someone tries to hack it and control it. The circuit was thrown away and found out by Bonnie or someone. Please do a video about that also. Thank you. You are soing well
You should have one of the team out on a video of the cars in the museums!
In your talks with the gentleman who currently owns the car, have you at all discussed him selling it to you should he ever decide to part with it? Great video on this car.
@04:20 Devon gets a call from FLAG HR...😂
I love this. was mesmerizing the whole video.
With the mentions of the car's quirks, I asked, "what about the features?"
And now I want to see Doug DeMuro review one of the Screen-Used KITT.
Interesting, as always
Saw a guy in the UK recently take delivery of a KITT from the US. It was in pretty rough shape BUT it had the towing frame under the front bumper that was usually used when attached to a rig. Unfortunately he had comments turned off on his video so I couldn't highlight that it may be screen used?? I can find it in my viewing history if needed.
Right, isn’t the fourth, non-convertible KITT in the UK?
Send us the link please. knightriderhistorians@gmail.com
I got to sit in one of the k.i.t.t. cars that toured with the general lee back in i think 1984? I was 4 years old at the time. I have pics of me & my cousin sitting in it, as well as pictures of those vehicles with a model standing by them. 😊
We would love to see those photos! Email us at knightriderhistorians@gmail.com
When I was 14 back in August of 1989 I seen one of the Kitt cars at a truck stop in Arizona with at the time "world's longest limo" heading to some car show and that Kitt was being driven not hauled
That was a Jay Ohrberg tour car
Like I said in other comments as with that one, I was 14 and I used to have some pics of it and the limo
Very cool 👍
Pretty interesting!!!❤❤❤ more interesting is the RoboCop arcade machine you have on the background!!!❤❤❤❤.🙏🏾 Respect dude!!! You have to try Rogue City! I recommend it by a 1000%👍🏾
I wish I were the caretaker of these cars because I would actually make them look like they were professionally built with love and pride. I truly don't understand how these cars can be presented to the public looking like cobbled together junk. I've seen some K.I.T.T. replicas that are true museum quality pieces of art. Those are the cars that I would rather see on display.
20:26 "...but AJ doesn't..." Well....maybe we can reconsider and discuss! And possibly hear from the fans about what THEY want to see....yes???
The fans ALL want Goodyear Eagle GTs back on KITT!!!!!!!
We are extremely fortunate that Universal Studios had cars that were not part of the infamous train derailment. 5 confirmed surviving screen used cars are not something to be taken lightly. I'm pretty sure Dukes of Hazzard is not that lucky. There may be only 1 surviving screen used General Lee. The train derailment was a blessing and an unfortunate tragedy. The blessing was the studio got more than enough cars to use for production at pennies on the dollar. The tragedy is some of the cars ended up playing key roles in the series such as KARR and the Super Pursuit Mode KITT. It is a crime that we don't have a screen used SPM KITT or KARR from the KITT v KARR episode because they had to be destroyed when the series ended.
From what I have read there are 17 screen used General Lees left. There are some that say they used over 250 Dodge Chargers during the shows run, so way more Chargers used than Firebirds/Trans Ams from Knight Rider.
@@JulieDeOutdoors Fascinating.
We did the studio tour when I was about 14yrs old. At some point, I can’t remember if it was before or after jaws, but certainly before the Cylons.. I saw a car carrier fully loaded with Kits and at least 3 more parked around the area.. I turned to my dad and yelled “It’s knight rider!” … I also got to sit in one that was on display, had to wait in line for quite a while
You can see KITT wearing white letter tyres in the pilot episode.
When the lady in the VW Beetle reverses into KITT and the bumper falls off... You can see in the chrome reflection GOOD YEAR EAGLE GT.
@2:16 I just saw the interior and knew what car was and from where it was pulled off :)
If you owned that car, would you return it to screen-used right-hand blind drive spec or original S1 hero car spec? Personally, I would go full pilot spec - replica Scheffe dash (maybe even with "Knight 2000" vox box lettering), consoles and og nose with screwed down turn signal blackouts. Perfection 👌
I visited The Cars Of The Stars Museum in the early 2000's.The guy let me sit in KITT and he swore blind that it was an actual screen used car.Knowing that you guys are experts, was this car an original or not?It would be very interesting to know.Thankyou.
Hi Joe, what do you know about the car that came touring to México back in the 90's? Sadly my picture on Kitt is lost 😢
Good Morning. This is a True Iconic vehicle that is really so rare nowadays. You think that there are only 5 Excisting actual vehicles that were used in the Television series. This car is really special. It would be my Dream to have a Passenger ride in this Awesome vehicle. I would make a video and take so many Photographs of this Beautiful and really Stunning vehicle. Of course KITT's voice was done by the Actor Mr. William Daniels. It was a very Good voice they used. They have just started to show the whole series again now, on a Channel called Legend on the Television, that i watch every evening. I really Love this vehicle. Jonathan a Big Fan of Knight Rider. 😃😃😃😃😃😎😎😎💯💯💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great memories
Have you done a video on the parts in the dumpster skip in the Knight Rider 2000 tv movie , i'm guessing they were from the 80s show.
He covers this in the Knight Rider 2000 commentary episode.
An observation.. in the screen shot of Devon in the passenger seat there was a cream seat belt to his right, but in the screen shot where you showed the swapped roof console I couldn't see.the cream seatbelts, begging, is it the same car? Or is it the shot angle, although both cars had the grey B pillar trim on them
Id love to see these cars in person.. even a replica will do.. any in Australia?
Thank you for your good report 😊 I have a question. In the original film scenes, the color of the seat covers is... (hmm... what's the best way to describe the color?) ... I think the best way to describe it is to say light yellow, also called Tan. If you compare this color with some surviving K.I.T.T.s of today, you will notice that the color of the seat cover is more intense or towards a stronger yellow. This color reminds me of the spice color of curry. Why did the color of the seat cover intensify so much? Is it the aging process or were new covers used?
WoW, you gave them all the credentials they'll ever need
Yep and there's a ton more if they want them!
MOTO RAZR and a RoboCop arcade unit...it's just heaven
Just wait to see what we have planned!

wonder if any record or photos ?
Could it be the same car displayed at World Expo 88 Brisbane ?

They really should put the much-nicer original-style Sheffe nose on that. It looks like a replica with that one.
