I done mine last weekend, luckily i have a ramp. All i done was cut out some plastic from old bushing outer race with a recip was a doddle to pull old ones out. Then i used a gearbox jack, piece of wood and old mount to squeeze new ones in. I pushed both bushes through the bottom, top bush was bulging out the opening for dog bone, i just used a pry bar to gently push it back as i was upping pressure on jack.
The tool looks a big help on that job, I like how you stopped and checked the bush and realigned it, and thinking outside the box to get it aligned properly without the extra part in the kit fitting. Good job mate
A fast effective way to complete the job and move on to the next. Pretty expensive tool and I only wish that tool was available in the States as a rental for my one-time DIY use. Looks like I'll drop my subframe and press the slow way. Great demonstration!
@@CarsExposed So I was not able to press in the bushing evenly or without damaging the bushing case with my H-Frame hydraulic press. I fumbled around with different sized bushing collars, but nothing worked. I ended up biting the bullet, and bought the Laser 6250 from the UK. The task went much smoother and faster. The 6250 is a quality fabricated tool. It was a pretty expensive tool for my one-time job, but was worth the joy of replacing myself. Worked on my 2006 Audi A3. Thanks again for your video!
Great to hear that you managed to get the job done , unfortunately without the proper tool it’s quite difficult perhaps you can sell it and get some money back 👍👍👍👍
Just noticed but can't watch now; will asap; but have you shown how to replace front ARB bushes at the same time e.g. think subframe needs dropping for that too? Thanks!
Great stuff Igor and well done making it work with the tool, that's the sign of a great thinker, the ability to adapt to the situation and get it done....great skill to have 😀👍
How's she goin'? Too bad about the first attempt and that Laser doesn't have an adapter for newer cars. But I was impressed that it got the bushings in place. You could never have done that without the tool I bet. Nice that you show that things don't always go as planned or expected!! The real world we call it right!!! Take care!!!
Bit of a fail there😊 I'm better prepared now knowing the tool limitations , definitely couldn't get the job done without it . Absolutely the real world Mike I always leave the problematic and fail bits in with less cut as possible I find them always the most important thing to show, as they say the mistakes are the best teacher right 😉😊😃👍👍👍 Cheers mate
Thomas EXOVCDS Hiya mate, Yeap that’s what I thought I actually refused 2 jobs recently because I didn’t fancy removing the subframe and didn’t have any pressing tool kit, I hope they comeback I’m better prepared now . Thanks for popping by 👍👍👍
Installed...Everything serviceable...Coped with an imperfect situation! Nice work Igor. P.S Your videos are one of the very few that I think the subtle use of a sound track is very well done! The production is excellent. It's obvious you put the time and care into that aspect of your content. Thx & Cheers M8
TheGibby3340 thanks mate, tricky one without removing the subframe but we got it there in the end 😊... I really appreciate that mate I’m glad that it shows, I spend quite a bit editing I really enjoy the whole process and even thinking about how I would like to present the video, it’s a learning curve for me but I think we are heading in the right direction 😋👍👍👍 cheers
Just done one of these - subframe off the car. Absolute awful bushing design - always catches on the cut out. I used a generic bushing tool kit, with a threaded rod and cups etc. Had to improvise and use a steel back plate with a hole to pull the bushing through, one bushing at a time. Just like you it kept catching on the slot cut out - in the end i filed down a large chamfer in the bushing where it tends to bulge/catch and using a small pry bar whilst tightening the cup i managed to get both halves of the bush in. Much cheaper than spending £300+ on the laser kit - although it does the job far more easily it still runs into the bulge/catch problem for the later models.
Pain in the balls this bushing mate exactly what I’ve experience with this car , well done for doing it without the laser tool I haven’t regretted it buying it but no where near perfect for the money 👍
Great vid, have just borrowed my mates tool, exactly the same has yours, but the 2 set screws that screw the bar into the subframe is missing, have tried 6mm with a 1mm pitch and 6mm with a 1.25 pitch but neither fit, any chance you could check the size of yours for me ?. cheers . Spike
Nice job mate I love specialist all they make your life so much easier laser make some great stuff off I love them personal overalls I've been thinking of getting some myself
Laser does quality stuff mate I'm just glad I don't need to remove the frame to do this job, the overall is brilliant specially in this weather it keeps you nice and warm 👍👍👍😉 cheers
Hello mate , many thanks indeed for showing me it,s unneccessary to drop the whole subframe off to do this , just undo the 4 bolts holding the antiroll bar brackets down , ( ideal time to change the bushes on these as well ) swivel that up out of the way & tie it to something secure , then go in with this kit , I,ve got my gearbox out so bags of room , albeit under a suspended engine , ( gonna need more than an hard hat if that chain breaks ! ) . Just a suggestion , is the C shaped clamp / bracket meant for the alloy version of the subframe ? Possibly why it won,t fit on the steel one . Get the hole well rid of burrs , it may have got squashed up a bit on a previous bush change done by somebody you know nothing about . This would cause the deformity to cause this effect . Check the hole is still circular with bore gauges first , if not , rectify . I,ll try either copper grease or tyre soap for lube on this , on mine 2 bolts into the steering rack just won,t budge , force them & they,d snap , not on is it & the rack is a hydraulic power assisted one so can,t use heat on their lugs , as it could well explode . This provides the answer , I could see that you need to have the ingoing bushes PERFECTLY aligned & square with the hole , It,s advisable to squash just one in at a time if the kit allows it . I,m used to changing steel sleeved bushes on Landrovers , which are bloody difficult , no give in them at all & the hole has to be perfect or they skew & jam . Thanks for the knowledge , it,s the spirit of UA-cam , Best Regards .
thank you for the post. i had a question.i have a skoda octavia mk 2.done twice alighment the car drives straight with a slightely off center steering wheel.could it be possible that i need to change the subframe bushing?thank you in advance
This is the same Skoda you did an engine mount replacement in May 2018? If so, any particular reason why you did not replace the subframe bush back then?
Yes I did. It’s only suitable for a variant of subframes but it helps with all of them when you have to pressed the bushing with the subframe off the car 👍
Hi there! Great video! I saw you had mentioned that the tool isn’t quite made for your year of car, however you were able to get through it. Do you believe this could be used on a later model such as a Mark 7 golf to get the job done?
Yes, but... the bar that holds the block over the hole where the edge of the mount pokes through... that bar can't be mounted to the Mk7 subframe. So you have the problem of keeping the mount from poking out the hole and getting caught as the mount is pushed in.
Wayne thanks mate for the suggestion I’ve got a big G Clamp I’ll try that next time we will how it goes but I’m planning to get my friend to CNC a slightly longer B9 piece hopefully it will work 👍👍👍 cheers
We love shiny new tools right 😉😋😁... I think so mate I’ve got a g clamp to try next time the job comes along, I also asked a friend to mill a bigger clamp thingy like the original one but slightly longer we will see 👍👍👍 cheers
Leonardo Said bem apertado lá meu brother sem a ferramenta ia ser muito difícil, teria que remover o subframe mas mais um trabalho feito.. Valeu aí por aparecer obrigado 👍👍👍
Props to you for showing what happens when it doesn't go according to plan

Having this tool would help me a lot. I've done loads of these in the padr and I've always removed the subframe completely 😂
The tool looks a big help on that job, I like how you stopped and checked the bush and realigned it, and thinking outside the box to get it aligned properly without the extra part in the kit fitting. Good job mate

You could use a small C-clamp for the thing that Laser doesn't provide.

Hola, a que marca de vehículo aplica esta herramienta?
excellent post. If only the laser wasnt £££ . Need to find a used one or perhaps one from HK made of pig iron
Where can I get this tool please!
if you chamfer the bush slightly, it wont hang up on the hole when your pressing it in !

CAN Diagnostic cheers mate I had 3 overalls without anything on it so I thought why not having the channel name on it , looks ok I think 😉😋👍👍👍 cheers
How did you sort the top bush?
Didn't show it on video.
Did you remove it?
I’ve removed it all and tried again, when the top bush was about to hit the edge of the hole in the subframe I’ve supported it with a little pry bar 👍
good job! Did you use the tool on a metal subframe? On the site it says it's used for aluminium subframes.
Yes I did. It’s only suitable for a variant of subframes but it helps with all of them when you have to pressed the bushing with the subframe off the car 👍
Where are you based? And do you still do this bushing work seeing it’s a pain??? My 2014 Passat 2.0 needs it
Hi there!

An easy fix for the non fitting b9", would be to use an old school C-clamp.
I noticed you forgot to use an other alignment tool that goes inside the "window",
It works with some cars but it didn’t work with this one unfortunately .
Great video couldn’t you use a g clamp to hold that bar from moving
Wayne thanks mate for the suggestion I’ve got a big G Clamp I’ll try that next time we will how it goes but I’m planning to get my friend to CNC a slightly longer B9 piece hopefully it will work 👍👍👍 cheers
Great video! I found the cheapest price 300e for that laser kit.
Do you know where I can get it for less then that, wouldn't mind 2nd hand one?

I just bought mine for a bargain £160 👍💷👍. Guy only used it once so it's literally brand new.
I now have my first four cars booked in.
How long does it take to do this job when you have this tool? an hour or less?
On the floor like me probably a hour and a half
