Lots of you have been asking me, how deleting the backbox on my #BMWZ4 has effected the drone sound at motorway speeds.

Did it to my 2004 Z4 3.0i after seeing your video, and I absolutely love it. There is some drone at 80 mph or so, but it's reasonable. Definitely worth it for the pops and bangs and running around town!

It's Joel lolol you're lucky- able to go through the tunnel...say "do it again, do it again" turn around and actually hear it again. Now it sound great through the earphones so can just imagine how that straight 6 must sound in person.

Had a straight through custom box fitted to replace the back box on my 04 3.0 Z4. Found it to be a bit too “droney”. Bought a couple of bike baffles off eBay & straightened out the prongs a bit. Cut the drone but still sounds awesome. Keep the vids coming Joel!

I just did this to my z4 after watching these videos. It doesn’t do any popping though. I wanted some snap crackle pop 😂🤣

I got my muffler deleted about a month ago and when i want it to growl oh boy will it growl but at lower RPMs when I’m cruising sounds just like any other car

Hi Joel ! got almost the same z4 as yours. I make a sound generator mod- its really good sounding, and now im thinking about exhaust like you. Question is do you want back with sound generator to stock, when u got exhaust? Cause i wonder that noise from the back is enough?
Hey mate, the sound generator mod is great! When I got the backbox delete, I put the foam back in the sound generator!
I have 2.5si thats defintately had the cdv removed and has a very throathy exhaust that probably means a back box delete.
It's a lot of fun .
Sound is still dead in the cabin with the roof up but If I lower the roof the car sounds like a madman.

I had an MR2 sw20 that I put both a 3.5 inch twin exit exhaust on and a K+N cone filter. It crippled the poor cars low down torque but it made it a menace past 5000 rpm.
Definitely made it a more fun car to drive when going for it.
At motorway speeds it was very droney.
You pays your money, you takes your choice.
I never regretted a moment in that car.
It was really special car.

I'm looking at getting a Z4. Only one thing stopping me is that I have never had a roadster before and worry about how having only 2 seats will restrict me. How do you find it?
I personally don’t have a problem with it, I guess you just need to ask yourself how often you use more than 2 seats!
It's got surprisingly large boot for a soft top and the interior is very roomy. Only down side is lack of wee compartments for things like sunglasses. The roof is excellent the car is very quiet with it up. Blast to drive, loving mine. I've had BMWs for 25+ years and run a website since before BMW had theirs, the Z4 is one of the best to drive. In terms of practicality this is good as it gets for a two seater convertible.
Think of it as a 4 wheel motorbike! I have had a 2.5 '06 Z4 for just under a year since Joel convinced me. Love it, and you don't need to put on leathers and a lid for the same outdoors experience. About to do a backbox delete as the only thing too tame is the sound atm.
Best between backbox or resonator delete ?
How does a back box delete compare to having sports cat back exhaust from the likes of SuperSprint, Remus, Eissenman etc?

when u get a backbox delete is it loud when you start the car, I'm looking into getting one but my parents aren't too keen as they think it will be to loud

Hi so what do you reccomend if I want pops when letting off the gas and do you think it would sounds good if I added a magnaflow muffler
Not sure really the best option, mine will let pops out when I let off sometimes, but I can also make it pop on demand when tapping the throttle around 3000rpm. The main advantage of doing a simple backbox delete is that it only costs about £150
Have you experienced any loss of power?
Not at all. I’ve heard conflicting opinions about whether remove the back box affects back pressure, but I haven’t noticed - if anything, it feels faster now because of the noise!

It's Joel got it done a few weeks ago and it's fucking awesome. Got twin staggered & slash cut tips 👌 Don't think I'll ever get bored of it 😂 I also think it feels a tad more peppy but I'm not sure if that's just a placebo though

Is it possible to remove the backbox yourself?
Yes, definitely, but you need to know how to weld! I filmed the process of the backbox being removed a few videos ago!
