- Federal Reserve Notes Hunt - Searching $1 Bills for Rare Star Notes
I'll be searching through $1,000 worth of $1 bank notes from the Federal Reserve Bank. This is also known as a Federal Reserve Brick. I typically have better luck when searching federal reserve notes strapped by the Federal Reserve rather than by the bank employees so I was still excited to hunt through these notes!
We're hoping to find more rare star notes, any valuable old bills, or any fancy or cool serial numbers in these circulated stacks of bills. I hope you enjoy this bit of bill hunting with me.

Among the most sought-after U.S. paper money of the late 1960s are the short-lived "Barr" Notes. The bills feature the signature of then Secretary of the Treasury, Joseph W. Barr. Barr had a relatively short term of office, the shortest of anyone that has held the position (December 21, 1968 - January 20,1969) leading to hoarding of these $1 Secretary Barr Notes. These notes are Series 1963B.

One of the tellers at my bank loves me and has started setting aside star notes for me whenever she finds them or interesting serial numbers. She just gave me a few and two of the five dollar bills were rare on both run size and total!! She’s so sweet!
I've got a teller friend too and I've also gotten rare notes...and she sets back coins too ...can't beat that

Funny how the star notes run, I did a search last week and found only 3 and I searched 1000 yesterday and found 13. I keep all the star notes I find but keep all the rarer ones separate. Two US type birthday notes was a good score. I find more international style around here for some reason. Nice mat!

The 1985 F..B note was printed in October 1985. I would be interested in buying any older series notes from you.
I will try to start keeping all notes from 1999 and earlier.

Rob, you SERIOUSLY need to lower your standards of what series and older you keep. You literally said “That 1985 is in pretty good shape for lasting in circulation this long.”
Also you seconds later, “I only keep 1969’s and older” (like 1985’s happen often). “So this one is going back!”
So you logically, you won’t start saving 1985’s until the 2040’s?? Like what???!!
If there is a model you should follow, follow Stupublak’s method of saving anything 1993 or older, because there is a chance that that 85 might get sent to the shredder now, and someone who collects bills passed it up! 🤦🏻♂️
I do. Point noted. I go through so many thast it is hard to keep them all, but I could put together sets for those that do collect them.
