GROVER WASHINGTON DOES GREAT That’s right and it should have been listed by “Trumpet Mercenary”. Grovers Soprano sounds better than Wayne Shorter’s ( in my estimation ), technically innovative and creative but at times harsh and brittle sound on the Soprano... SMOOTH JAZZ/FUSION INFLUENCES Jimmy Health in a magazine interview ( in the 1990’s ), called Grovers music a bastardization of Jazz. This tune really shows that Grover could play traditional jazz music if he so desired....
Man, Roy was a dark cat. Think about what destroyed his kidneys, then what disease killed him, and then the name of his last amazing album/band, RH Factor. Fucking dark ass humor there, from a complex, troubled, genius level individual. Always sad when one of great musicians pass, but, in my eyes, worse when they pass because they self destruct.
R.I.P. Roy Hargrove simply genius!
Rip Grover Washington, Jr and RIP Roy Hargrove.......
