Using passphrase in Trezor Suite, MetaMask and other apps

This video shows the difference between the standard and the hidden wallet protected by a passphrase.
By using the same combination of the recovery seed and the passphrase the same wallet with identical addresses is derived no matter what application is used.
In this video you will see that each character matters when entering a passphrase. A single typo will result in generating a different wallet with different addresses.

This was very, very, very helpfull.
Thank you very much. Big hug from Portugal
We're glad to read that!

Imagine if Ledger could design such a seamless UI.
UI is one thing. They should start with building quality apps that work and do not break other apps. Honestly the whole app / ledger live is just all too tedious and I am being very polite here.
awesome content, this greatly helps beginners safely store their cripto. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Any help if we lose the passphrase for the third party wallet?
0:22 why do people use multiple ETH accounts in main wallet? Whats is the benefit
If I have a Trezor T with funds and without Passphrase, can I convert it to a Trezor T with Passphrase? That is, do like a reconversion.
If I want to transfer btc from a standard wallet to a hidden wallet do I have to send the btc over the blockchain? meaning generate a public address from the hidden wallet and send it there from the standard wallet. Or can I transfer btc between accounts in trezor without doing that?
Hi, you need to send a bitcoin transaction to move your funds from the standard to the hidden wallet indeed. The hidden wallet is entirely different from the standard one, which is the fundamental principle of a hidden wallet. It's not tied to the standard wallet, and no one can tell if you have any hidden wallet active or not.
NICE video THANKS!....
But that "hidden wallet" choice... is only on Trezor Model T and not on the T-One? Right?
Hi, passphrase feature is available on both models. trezor.io/learn/a/passphrases-and-hidden-wallets
@@TrezorWallet Thank you very much, now I can wipe it, and renew it, and start over with that Passphrase,
That i practice memorizing for a week before needing to write it down, And NOT just 1jane*jumped&over%duh$mountain
LOL!
Not even close! BUT in the "ball-park!"
Hello thank you for the awesome video.
I would like to know
1. Incase if needed which wallet (other than trezor) is compatible with passphrase ie 24th word + passphrase.
2. In standard wallet there is an option for creating many public address for same account, for privacy, In that case if i send 0.1 btc equally to 10 different address in same trezor account, and if i want to send 1 btc to some other wallet from the trezor standard account, do i have to pay fees for 10 different address?
Hi,
1. Most of the HW wallets support passphrase.
2. No, you pay the fee for the transaction not for the address. Trezor will do all the calculations for you it will combine the balances into one transaction.
If for some reason the Trezor service/applications stop operating many years in the future, can I access the hidden Bitcoin wallet on other hardware or software wallets (like with the standard 24 word recovery seed) or is it a Trezor specific thing?
The 24 word seed recovery, can be backed up on a "Bitcoin Paper Wallet," and stored in a melt proof medal container, like a cheap, thick walled 1" to 5" long X 1.4" or thicker, and what ever diameter you desire, IRON pipe with threaded Iron Caps, for years in the future! And more the carbon content the, less chance of melting! Stainless steel could also be used, instead of "cold roll steel!"
And the "Bitcoin Paper Wallet," can be found on a Brave browser search. (I'd not use any other browser unless TOR, or Orbit, just a security suggestion !)
Hi F F, there are no such plans because we love cryptocurrencies, but even if we had to close down, there is nothing to worry about. Trezor is compatible with other BIP32, BIP39 and BIP44 compatible wallets. Since our code is publicly available, developers from around the world can maintain it and add new functionalities. In extreme cases (although this is not recommended), it is possible to use the recovery seed to recover your funds in a different wallet as well.

I don't see what the risk would be unless you recover on on a HWW that uses a different derivation path and, not knowing this, you have a heart attack when you can't find your funds at first. Am I overlooking some other reason this would be "not recommended"?
Can I create a passphrase after I have setup my wallet with funds in it? Or should I move the funds out, wipe it, recreate the wallet and then create a passphrase? In other words, can I create a passphrase anytime?
Hi, yes, you can create passphrase at any time, this will create a new wallet and you can send money to this wallet from your old one as a regular transaction.
How to access hidden wallet from mobile as it doesn't show
If the hardware wallet is lost, can the hidden wallet be recovered in a hot wallet by inputting the 24 seed phrases + the passphrase? Or is there a better way to recover the hidden wallet?
yep it can be
hi ,Nice Video, Thanks!
Trezor Allows to create hidden wallets, by access all hidden wallet we need other applications ?
is it possible to see all hidden wallets same time with trezor?
maybe i create wrongly many hidden wallet in trezor ,How I check, how much hidden wallet in my trezor wallet.
need to delete that hidden wallets?
Hi Naveen, good question! The wallet remains the same, and the same applies to the hidden wallet. Using a different app only serves as a different way to access the same wallet. Whether you use MetaMask or Trezor Suite, you will always access the same wallet with the same set of addresses.
In Trezor Suite, you can switch between multiple hidden wallets directly in the interface.
However, you cannot check the list of all hidden wallets. One of the cases for a passphrase is so-called "Plausible deniability."
Suppose you are subjected to a demanding search by border security or encounter a random robber who noticed and recognized your Trezor at a pub. In that case, the idea is that you can give up one passphrase leading the thief to a wallet with only a little crypto, while your real wallet is safe behind a different passphrase. That's why listing all hidden wallets is basically against the purpose of the passphrase.
Also, you cannot delete the passphrase wallet. You can only abandon it (stop using it).
We hope this was helpful!
@@TrezorWallet please tell me there is a workaround just in case you forget the passphrase.
I can see the third party wallet but I forgot the passphrase to make transactions. I also know the Trezor passphrase and pin if that helps.
Чего за инфа, есть из русских кто понял?
Don't do it. I'm really careful with my passphrase/passwords and in the end all was lost. Trezor has no tech support either.
@@hillaryurubu User Interface design is a thing. Some do it right, some do it wrong. They of course decided not to do any doublecheck on the invisible password. And they have no tech support.
did you forget your passphrase or what happened
@@godmode2461 No, I have a standard set of passwords that I rotate occasionally. The problem was they didn't even do a "doublecheck" of the password and some character got mistyped. So I just have to keep guessing for what mistype happened. And they have no backup method to access outside of my mistyped password. There are also problems with the interface when you are trying to guess your password.
