      Thank you. Better and better is great, because normally I aim for a consistent level of mildly competent.

    I had the Skeletor figure with the dragon water pistol back pack! Huge nostalgic flash back there! They also had the sprung mid section so you could draw them back and make them actually hit other figures (or your brother when he wasn't looking). Ah, good times. 😂

    This game looks so good, Archon Studios seem to be doing a great job supporting it. I've been patiently waiting for Fields of Eternia to ship and obviously different game styles but your vids gives me hope it's gonna been worth the wait.

      I never backed Fields of Eternia, but it's one I'm going to pay closer attention to when it hits retail to see if it's something I would consider picking up for the collection.

    Looks pretty fantastic and amazing quality and quantity for the price. How do Archon Studios manage that?? Really hopevthe releases continue-it's an extremely balanced and enjoyable skirmish game. Cheers for the excellent review!

      I honestly don't know how they can design and sculpt two new characters and terrain elements, commission the art for all the cards, pay the licensing fees, and bundle it all up so it can sell for £13 and still make profit. But I'm glad they can!

      It's a really good game. A little clunky in some regards - there are a few places where it could be a little smoother - but I really enjoy it, and yes, the miniatures are really good.

    Really wish this was available in the US as it looks great, hopefully it will still be around in a couple years when CMON gives up the license and we'll be able to enjoy it here too.
    Is anyone actually playing it though? I'm curious if it's made any impact in the markets it's available in.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 роки тому +2

      As I mentioned in another comment, some US retailers do seem to have the game available. Badger Games in Milwaukee is a place I just checked and which has stock right now for some of the products including the core set.
      I couldn't tell you if people are playing the game or not. I am, though; and at the moment Archon are continuing to push out realises based on their schedule. We will see if those releases dry up once we get passed the Evil Horde.

    Hey man, thanks for informing us about this game. Do you have a gameplay video? I'd be really interested to see how this game plays out. Keep up the great work!

      Thanks for watching. Battleground is one of the games I feature regularly on the channel, so there will be more content to come. I cover some of the game mechanisms in my unboxing and initial thoughts video, but I will do a deeper look at the gameplay at some point. There will also be a playthrough and painting, as soon as I can get to it.

    Unless I'm missing something the new Eternia games have the same miniatures, but you get a lot more characters in each set. Yes, sets bit more expensive, but still work out far cheaper. Different game though so have to see.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 роки тому +3

      Yes, they are very different games. As it's a skirmish game, you get a lot of plastic terrain, which you don't get in Fields of Eternia, which is more of a "dudes on a map" game.
      Fields of Eternia uses some of the same miniatures but some are different sculpts (like Beast Man and Teela for example). The Eternia core game includes 12 characters, which is only two more than you get in the Battleground core set. The rest of the miniatures in the Eternia core set are identical minions, which are more like busts.
      People who backed the Eternia Gamefound campaign obviously got a lot more characters, but that's part of crowdfunding and can't really be compared to retail products.
      Battleground has regular releases, which are all different in scope, and which I have covered on the channel. First you had the core set, which included 10 characters and stacks of plastic terrain. It was around £75, which was a bargain. Wave 1 comprised two character packs (each containing two characters, a scenic element and cards). Wave 2 was a huge expansion, which had a new board, new scenarios, a tyrantisaurus and lots of new terrain. Wave 3 was another two character packs (the one in this video, and one for the heroes). Wave 4 is another larger expansion introducing the Evil Horde, which I would expect to be a minimum of five characters, plus a large selection of cards for them.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring guess base set are both great, but expansions seem much better value on Fields. Get below for £29, but the Battleground expansions are £13.5 for 2 characters
      1xHordak Miniature
      1x GrizzlorMiniature
      1x ScorpiaMiniature
      1x Shadow WeaverMiniature
      1x LeechMiniature
      1x CatraMiniature
      15x Horder Miniatures
      Guess I'm still a little salty about missing the kick and all the figures i won't be able to get :/ I'm more about the painting so would have liked access to more figures

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 роки тому +2

      It's not really the sort of thing you can compare accurately, because they are different sorts of games and different sorts of expansions. It's very uncommon to be able to get two named (licensed) characters, new terrain and new cards for £13; for most skirmish games it would be way more. Heck you can rarely get a single Warhammer character for £13, and they don't come with cards or anything.
      Smaller expansions are generally poorer value compared to larger expansions (things like graphic design, art, packaging, and distribution don't get dramatically cheaper because an expansion is smaller). When the Evil Horde expansion comes out for Battleground, I expect that will be a better one to compare to the value of the Evil Horde expansion for Fields of Eternia; however, a small Battleground expansion contains two characters plus terrain, cards, and sometimes tokens. The Eternia expansion is six characters. The 15 minion miniatures are just busts (like 3D tokens) so nothing to get really excited about. You do get stacks of cards and other gameplay elements though.
      Also, I don't recall, but wasn't Eternia being made with resin miniatures instead of plastic, and it wasn't being entirely created in Poland like Battleground is?
      Ultimately, Archon Studio are offering excellent value for both games, especially considering they are paying for the IP. I think the prices for both games are hard to beat.

    I still have both of these figures from the 80s. Stinkor had to stuck in a ziplock bag, because he was making my Grizzlor smell like a wet and slightly decaying dog. I bet he's plenty ripe now after stewing in that bag for so long.
    Weird that the Whiplash spear art doesn't match then mini or character art. That seems like something too obvious too overlook.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 роки тому +1

      I don't know what happened with the artwork. I'm wondering if they didn't have a piece of art commissioned for that card so repurposed art from somewhere else.

    • @johnmiddleton4291
      @johnmiddleton4291 2 роки тому

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring It's just one more of the little things like rule phrasing that could have used a once over from a second set of eyes.
      How hard is it to draw Whiplashes spear, especially since it's feature in the character card art. Heck, you or I could probably do a drawing of that spear in a few minutes.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 роки тому +2

      They could have just cropped in on the spear from the reverse art if they really needed to.
      I think this is a great game, but it's not uncommon to see little things where it feels just a touch more care would have made the difference. It's mainly wording on skills, but my biggest annoyance is they introduced front and rear arcs for the purpose of overwatch and flank attacks, but Line of Sight is 360 degrees in all other cases. It works, and it isn't enough to ruin the experience, but it's just a touch clunkier than I feel it should be and it makes it just a little bit harder to understand and teach.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Attack and reaction arcs make sense if a fighter or weapon is cumbersome or mounted, but I've never really liked them for solo models fighting on foot.
      It's one of the things I've always disliked about Necromunda and Mordheim.
      I suppose an argument could be made for it making sense for ranged weapons, but every time you see a bow wielder on foot in a movie, say Legolas, they are shooting everywhere.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 роки тому +2

      Officially, Archon Studio don't have the rights to distribute this game in the States because CMoN have the rights to make Masters of the Universe games over there. However, I have been told that some companies do manage to get stock. Badger Games in Milwaukee is a name that crops up frequently. I just checked their site and they have the game and some expansions available to order.
