Thank you so much! I ordered an 'A' key on Ebay that came with the butterfly mechanism & switch and was trying to figure out what to do, turns out I just needed to pop the key off and stick it straight onto the butterfly switch that is still fully intact!
thank you so much! I managed to clean all my hard to barely working keys on my MacBook 12 inch retina 2017. It's the same mechanism. You saved me a lot of frustration and money! subscribed and liked
Can you do a video of replacing the butterfly? I bought the replacement but the clear pieces that hold down the butterfly do not stay since the glue is dry. What can I use instead?
Thanks for this. I had heard that the Macbook pros around 2017 had really bad keyboards and I have been holding my breath since. Finally, my "a" key just started giving me trouble. Did some research. The removing keyboard involves also removing the glued on batteries and so is no small operation. I also heard that Apple will not repair or replace invidividual keys. So tried this and cleaned out, i.e., scraped and bulb blowered my "a" key without damaging the mechanism. It is working much better. So still holding my breath over total keyboard demise, but I have some tools now and continuing research. "A" key still a little sticky. Maybe because of all the keys, I hit that closer to the bottom edge with my short pinky finger. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Is it me, or are most Apple laptop keyboards using the same key caps on magic keyboards back then; possibly now even?
