how to manually open the rear lift gate on your 2011-18' (possibly up to 2020) Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. Using a 2012 SRT8 model for demonstration.
Ended up not being my exact problem, but in looking for the secondary lever I found something blocking it's full movement. Removed object. Solved the issue. Thank you.
I have a dead battery due to alternator failure and triple AAA tow me to the dealership soon. I’ve been able to secure all 4 passengers doors manually (remember the battery is DEAD) but not the rear hatch-door. I gather I cannot secure the rear hatch without power and no key entry Is there a secret I should? Thanks 😊
If you have access to the interior, I would imagine using jumper cables for some power to the battery would allow you to just hit the lock button on the door. Unless the latch itself is stuck open?
Could be a few different things, possibly the power module (if it's a power lift gate.) Could be the actuator, or even just a latch. Or maybe the button on your fob just no longer works, I don't have an exact answer unless you can pinpoint exactly where the issue is.
Should be able to get your screwdriver or smaller pry tool under the edge of the panel, then twist or pry to pop it off. It only has some plastic tabs that hold it in place.
No. It will get it open in a quick situation, but you will still have to find out what the root of the issue is, and there are several different reasons it might not open from the outside.
hold up hold up hold up ‘ no doubt that u are great at what ur doing . u talk to smooth. i’m on ur side . but are u saying that i have to do this every time i want that back window open ? that i have to do some training in a field of hatchbacks and go all out the way like this . if so ima need therapy after . this ride is loaded out to the max with the heated steering wheel . all the bells and whistles .this baby is nice. and i gotta do all that open a window ? . i’m a gal and i’ll get my hands dirty but come on ? or are u saying that this is how u do it if the actual way ( button etc ) don’t work ? Best video I've found that helped me open the door. Its been 6mos. I'm so grateful. Just needed to know it was a secondary piece.

What is the part that you are supposed to replaced called?

@@Dm6Ripper Thank you. I did a little bit of research and I think it's the liftgate lock actuator
how do you pop open the access panel?
Should be able to get your screwdriver or smaller pry tool under the edge of the panel, then twist or pry to pop it off. It only has some plastic tabs that hold it in place.
😂
mine tries to open then closes right away, is it the lift strut or pcm?
A friend had a similar issue on a van, and it was the strut that had gone bad. Probably a good place to start
@@Dm6Ripper ty
Does that fix it
No. It will get it open in a quick situation, but you will still have to find out what the root of the issue is, and there are several different reasons it might not open from the outside.

Only if the actual button does not work. (I would imagine most of these jeeps have a hatch button on the key fob.)
