Leveling with the vat is fine. Leveling with A4 paper is fine. Leveling with the leveling card is fine. I don't know if leveling has gotten more forgiving over time, or if we were always blaming more problems on bad leveling than was justified, but you can pretty much level however you like nowadays. It's really difficult to screw up.
Took a risk and got this before many reviews were out, and it's been a joy to use. Print quality is fantastic with smooth surfaces and sharp details, prints are reasonably quick, and it doesn't take up as much room as a Saturn which was important for me in my tiny apartment. I'm not a fan of the default slicer but lychee has support now and it works great. It definitely isn't the best printer available, but it's a fantastic all-around machine without many issues for a reasonable price.
I totally agree on the etched patterns on other printers. If you're having adhesion problems on a non-etched build plate, you're having calibration issues. There's nothing sweeter than having your burn in calibrated just right, so that everything holds, and when you go to slide a spatula under then and give it a little twist, they just fall right off. Well, maybe sweeter is when you get a really well supported model and have your resin dialed in perfectly, and the supports just fall away from the model with the tiniest of effort, leaving zero scarring behind... Yeah, that might be sweeter, but it's close :)
Been in the market for my first 3d printer. Love these videos, definitely makes it... incredibly hard to decide! lol. I mean this as a compliment to you. You point out the pros and cons of each printer extremely well, I love it... but due to my lack of experience I don't know what cons I can get by with haha. That said, your reviews did lead me to cancel my m5s pre-order which I'm glad of. Once their refund hits (a much longer process than I expected...), I think im going to spend a little more on the GKTwo. Your's and VogMan's reviews sold me on that one haha.
I am very happy to see your long awaited verification of the Mars 4 Max 6K!😃 I am currently using Mars 3Pro Saturn 8K and Photon Mono X, but this Mars 4 Max 6K was my first choice for the next addition, so I really appreciate your verification. And I think I will go for this Mars 4 Max 6K. Thank you for all your kind and careful verification videos.😊
I've got a Mars 3 - and the only complaint I have is the build plate size. I knew what I was getting when I bought it - but didn't realize how much stuff I'd be printing. No quality complaints on it at all and I will be upgrading to a larger printer. I did see the prices on the "old" units are dropping a lot and it's tempting to pick up a Saturn.
@@FauxHammer I upgraded to a saturn 2 from a mars 3 pro... a month before the saturn 3 was released and the price went down on the saturn 2. Still, don't regret it. Both printers have been great.
One thing that's driven me nuts with this printer is in their photos Elegoo has shown the incorrect dimensions for XY on the build plate. After checking the tech specs and your screen shots of the slicer it is a 122mm wide build plate but the photos on Elegoo's sale page shows it being 150mm wide. I almost impulse bought one while they're on sale but I'm glad I came and watched the video as I was VERY excited at the idea of a 150mm Y dimension, I find the usual 122-123mm width very limiting. Might as well keep my first gen Saturn for now.
they must not have wanted this late release of a 3 to sound old compared to the 4s, everything down to the design is for sure 3. that being said its a solid printer
Super late to the conversation, but I think the print button being on the right is the correct place for it. Because when your printing, if you need to do any adjustments etc, then you do those first (ie settings) and the last thing you should be doing is hitting the print button. Also, Im right handed and I notice you were using your left hand in the video. So when I want to print, my hand isnt covering all the info, just the print button. I dont think that actually makes a meaningful difference, but not covering the screen to access it seems good.
Given the fact I don't yet have a 3d printer [it's moving closer to the top of my 'must have' list] I've been watching all your videos. At least when I can buy one, I'll know what to look for, and yes, I'll definitely buy from one of your links. Thank you for the work you put into these videos, it really is appreciated. )O(
I purchased one yesterday, and I hope it will be here by this weekend. I have a few high-end resin printers and was curious about some of these 2k, 4k, and 6k machines. I want to see the differences in detail quality by printing the same model on all of them using Phrozen 8k resin, so this should be a fun experiment. Great video btw, I like the cut of your jib mate.
This printer is more like Saturn Lite. Please compare build plate surface and volume: Mars 4 Max: 293.7 and 3.6dm3 Saturn 8K: 269cm2 and 5.6dm3 Saturn 2 8K: 269cm2 and 6.7dm3 Build plate surface is bigger which is important for many prints as you can fit prints way easier.

hi! first of all thank you for your videos. i have a question. it s like one year since i started 'studying' youtube material about 3d printers. i think you are one of the better in reviews, in every video about printers everybody always said to level the plate by paper. i thougt that was pretty obvious the paper was meant to simulate the vat... nobody leveled it with vat ever. so the question is.. it s my opinion or it seems now everybody is going like this? thank you
Re: USB ports: I tend to get a USB extension cord so I can have the port wherever I like (it also helps to keep wear down on the built in port) but thinking about it, I might modify it with a bit of velcro. Maybe apply a bit of tape and/or celo to protect it from spills.
Can you do a review on the Mars 4 Ultra? It's a really tempting option for a new printer, but havent seen any reviews on that. So far only unclejessy made a commercial in disguise, but i'm sure there's more than meets the eye.
Now I have the transformers theme stuck in my head. I will do one, but they are t sending them out for review. So I need to wait for it to arrive from my preorder, just like any other customer
Im looking for an upgrade for my Halot One and i think this will be the right one. The other option for my budget is the Photon Mono 6ks, I already wachted your review and i cant decide wich one is better. Wich one you would recommend?
Interesting thing I just found out after unboxing this, it now seems to come with the laser etched build plate rather than the same blasted one in your review. 3:32
Fair, but I am a mini printer first and foremost. Most resin can’t handle sub 100um accuracy. If you can find me one that can actually see the difference between 35um at 28um. I’ll be shocked
For the size, resolution and printing volume it feels like it falls in the middle of the mars and saturn line, or a Saturn OG or Saturn S replacement if you don't mind the shorter print height. Maybe since it's bigger than a Mars but smaller than a Saturn, they should have called it the Venus or Uranus.
Yeah good call, but I still think it falls between the Mars 3 and Saturn 2 rather than the Saturn 3 and Mars 4. I expect this was called the Mars 3 max at one point, but they changed it because they knew the Mars 4s were coming out and just didn’t want this to sound like a lesser product
The power button and sockets on the side was the deal-killer for me. I've got my printers so close to each other in a limited space that I wouldn't be able to get in there.
When will we get printers with reservoirs and pumps? I feel there's still too much of 'getting dirty' business here. I just want to print, pick up the object and cure it. Minimal fuss, tidying up and washing (I'd be fine with tossing everything in a dishwasher, basically.) You hear me, Elegoo??
Hi, please help me choose between this Mars 4 Max and the Mars 3 Pro. In my country they are currently at the same price around 180 euros. Which of the two is a better choice for your first resin printer? obviously the max has the advantage of the larger screen, but seeing the review of the mars 3 pro you seemed much more enthusiastic about the general quality. What would you do? Thank you
I have noticed a few things. You have a signature pour from on top of your resin plates. When you do this I noticed you have failures that you can not explain on full plates of prints they fail in the area of the pour. I have seen this in 3 of your videos. Is it possible when you pour the resin from atop, it seeps onto the plate? If the plate is not PERFECTLY LEVEL it seems the resin would seep along the surface of the plate where it was poured AND the thicker and Colder the room there WILL be a layer on the plate surface and the plate will NOT be level when going into the Resin vat. Thoughts?
I think you’re reading a bit too much into it, I’ve never noticed that to be the case? Most of this video is out of order so it’s coincidental if anything at all
I have heard you need to have a resin 3d printer in a ventilation area as its not safe for it to be used indoors or something like that being is how i live in an apartment i dont have that option i really like this printer but dont want to risk my health hope maby you can put some insite
I don’t se the point in flex plates. If they send me some, I’ll probably say the same. But I’ve seen more problems with these that correct base exposure settings alone can’t fix
@@FauxHammer try printing large rigid flat base object with lots of volume. You will see the value of the flex plates. They fall off when using supports due to their mass, and must stick the flat base to plate to complete printing.
@@FauxHammer Wham Bam systems is 25% off for just today. Now is a good time to try. I recommend their upgraded version with stronger magnet and thicker plate. Get two for quick swap action between prints. Build plate won't need relevel between prints for a good while when large flat prints are made.
Got this as my first 3d printer a few days ago. Test print went OK, but having trouble getting the prints to stick to the plate so far otherwise. Thinking I might try another slicer to get help with minimizing surface area, the one that comes with isn't much help there. It's super easy to set up and use though which was great.
@@FauxHammer thanks! I used that one before so will likely stick to it. I also found out a likely issue was the default lift height of 3mm for the model, whilst when I used 7mm it seemed to help in my latest print.
Damn there are too much printers... now elegoo made saturn3 ultra 12k. Have you tried it? For now, wich one do you think its the best printing quality one? Didnt found the post with ranking in the blog
If you had to choose between the Phrozen Sonic Mini 8ks, the Mars 4 Max, and the Saturn 2 for printing minis and accessories, which is your choice? Do you value the better resolution of the 8ks, the size and res of the Saturn 2, or the in-between-ish Mars 4 Max? (Currently on amazon they're all within $100 of each other)
I am upgrading from the photon s and am looking at he mars 4 max, the photon mono 2 and the photon mono X2, which due to sales, are within 40€ of each other, is there any you would pick over the other? And thanks for the great reviews, they helped me a lot in my printing time.
Did you see my video comparing all the printers this year? ua-cam.com/video/pRiDUaDz_z8/v-deo.html&lc=UgwN5iHf9yOcIpC6RJZ4AaABAg Honestly, they pretty much do the same thing, get whichever one is cheaper
How is the print quality compared to the mars 3 pro? Also what should I get for my first resin printer for minies? Mars 3 pro 250usd with 30usd discount to a washing/cure Mars4 max 300usd Saturn 8k 350usd Saturn 2 8k 400usd Saturn 3 420 usd
Whatever you can stretch to. Saturn 3 is grey, I just write up my review. But a good midrange is the Saturn 8k and get the mercury X bundle to go with it. You’ll want a wash and cure
Great review! So after watching this video I'm leaning towards spending the extra cash on the Mars 4 Max instead of buying the Mars 3 pro. Anybody here know if the extra $60 for the max is worth it? I'm coming from a Anycubic Photon S.
My first printer was a Photon S, and IMO, yes it's worth it for the build plate size alone! But you may shit yourself when you compare prints on the Max to the Photon S. the difference is night and day.
@@FauxHammer Sounds good! I'll have some clean underwear at the ready lol I clicked your link and am buying it as we speak. Thanks for the videos and for taking the time to respond to me.
"I'm British and we read from left to right..." .....lolll then it makes sense to put the print button last after you've reviewed all the settings etc etc.... :D
The reason they tell you not to plug your phone into the USB filter port is because it puts out 24vdc and not 5vdc so if you plug your phone into it you will fry your phone and turn your phone into an expensive paper weight

So i take it this leveling technique works for the Elegoo mars 3 aswell? sounds much easier than the usual way with a4 paper etc.. The problem i have tho, is that after loosening screws, setting printer to home, tightening screws and then set z = 0, when i hit home next time it just smashed into the screen and continues trying to go down even more.. Is there something i'm doing wrong or is this some kind of bug they have with these machines? also, is it worth upgrading from mars 3 to mars 4? to me, it kinda sounds like it's mostly the same printer with just minor updates, and it feels like in about a year, we will see the same thing happening with resin printers as bambulab did with FDM printers..
These Elegoo reviews are starting to feel frustratingly similar. In no way is that meant as a criticism of your reviews or video-making, but rather Elegoo seems to have settled into a "let's offer trailing-edge technology with not much else in the way of better build quality, convenience, software/support, et al, and do it cheaply by cutting costs where we can". No doubt there's a market for that - there's definitely a market for entry-level printers - but it almost seems like Elegoo is heading in the direction where reviews can be boiled down to the price tag and whether there are/aren't build-quality issues or issues with the software.
Why are these printer manufacturers wasting resources making slicers? It's like car manufactures constantly reinventing the wheel when it comes to entertainment software, just let the companies that know what their doing figure it out. Ok I admit the text on the print thing is kind of cool though. . .
scaling presupported files is a huge bet, maybe you already know this and if you do maybe you can warn people so they dont think its totally okay to do it and then get horrible failures
If they really want to reduce cost get rid of the stupid low cost accessories that come with these machines - even when I started with my first Elegoo printer I did not use any of these things.
This is one of the least clickbait thumbnails have ever used? You commented before even watching the video... how would you know it's bait? I literally open the video by justifying that thumbnail. I don't think you know what "clickbait" means

maybe to identify clumps on the resin? 🤔
Just for cinematic effect
Re: USB ports: I tend to get a USB extension cord so I can have the port wherever I like (it also helps to keep wear down on the built in port) but thinking about it, I might modify it with a bit of velcro. Maybe apply a bit of tape and/or celo to protect it from spills.
smart idea
a great video as always.
Thanks so much
Can you do a review on the Mars 4 Ultra? It's a really tempting option for a new printer, but havent seen any reviews on that. So far only unclejessy made a commercial in disguise, but i'm sure there's more than meets the eye.
Now I have the transformers theme stuck in my head.
I will do one, but they are t sending them out for review. So I need to wait for it to arrive from my preorder, just like any other customer
Im looking for an upgrade for my Halot One and i think this will be the right one. The other option for my budget is the Photon Mono 6ks, I already wachted your review and i cant decide wich one is better. Wich one you would recommend?
Do you have a good comparison between ACF Film and nFEP by any chance?
Should i wait for the Mars 5 or get this one to begin with?
IMO Get this. Bigger. Good enough print quality
Interesting thing I just found out after unboxing this, it now seems to come with the laser etched build plate rather than the same blasted one in your review. 3:32
ooh, that;s good, I;m glad they've adopted that in the newer models.
And sure if all you are printing are figurines, then
Fair, but I am a mini printer first and foremost.
😂
When will we get printers with reservoirs and pumps? I feel there's still too much of 'getting dirty' business here. I just want to print, pick up the object and cure it. Minimal fuss, tidying up and washing (I'd be fine with tossing everything in a dishwasher, basically.) You hear me, Elegoo??
in this price - never.
Thank you
Mars 4 max, same print quality but a bigger build plate. This is an easy one
@@FauxHammer thank you very much and congratulations for the channel
So it is a competitor to Anycubic M3, so buy whichever is cheaper at the time, unless you need antialiasing in which case buy Elegoo.
Ummm, not a direct competitor, this is more a computer or to the Mono X6
You should review Wham Bam systems flexible magnetic build plate, made in USA. Drawback is loss of liquid capacity due to added mass of magnet
@@Soravia thanks, but I really just don’t feel like I need one
Got this as my first 3d printer a few days ago. Test print went OK, but having trouble getting the prints to stick to the plate so far otherwise. Thinking I might try another slicer to get help with minimizing surface area, the one that comes with isn't much help there. It's super easy to set up and use though which was great.
I’ve always been a fan of “use the slicer that comes with the printer” but I really don’t like.
I much prefer Chitubox
(Currently on amazon they're all within $100 of each other)
in this list, I'd pick the Saturn 2 for the size, I personally rate that plate size convenience over the resolution
@FauxHammer Awesome, thanks for the suggestion!
I am upgrading from the photon s and am looking at he mars 4 max, the photon mono 2 and the photon mono X2, which due to sales, are within 40€ of each other, is there any you would pick over the other?
And thanks for the great reviews, they helped me a lot in my printing time.
of those 3 I've only tested the Mars 3 Max, which gets my vote because it includes the carbon filter
Thank you very much, I’ll go with the Mars 3 Max then
between this mars4 max and the photon mono x 6ks, which one do you think is better.
Did you see my video comparing all the printers this year?
ua-cam.com/video/pRiDUaDz_z8/v-deo.html&lc=UgwN5iHf9yOcIpC6RJZ4AaABAg
Honestly, they pretty much do the same thing, get whichever one is cheaper
Good video, what was the name of the bust for the WH girl? I didn't quite understand it and neither found a link, it looks sick, tho.
Princess Mononoke 😊
I think you mean the princess Mononoke figure designed by nomnom figures, it's based on a studio ghibli movie. Hope that helps.
Sorry, that’s princess Mononoke by NomNom. I’ll update the description
How is the print quality compared to the mars 3 pro?
Also what should I get for my first resin printer for minies?
Mars 3 pro 250usd with 30usd discount to a washing/cure
Mars4 max 300usd
Saturn 8k 350usd
Saturn 2 8k 400usd
Saturn 3 420 usd
Whatever you can stretch to. Saturn 3 is grey, I just write up my review. But a good midrange is the Saturn 8k and get the mercury X bundle to go with it. You’ll want a wash and cure
Grey?
@@uvz6539r great! sorry
is it easy to paint ? I mean oil painting or acrylic ? thanks.
Is what easy to paint?
@@FauxHammer the figurine
Hello. ULTRA version has that opening at 8:40 too? Can't see it at any reviews.
I have a Mars 4 Ultra, doesn't have this Opening. The Saturns have it.
Lovely review as always and it’s still got me leaning towards the Saturn 2 for now. While stocks last :)
Good call!
was planing to get the saturn 3 ultra but now im having doubts and want to get this to save money...
My Saturn 3 review is out. I think the ultra will do the same quality when you replace the ACF
Does anyone know if this could print detailed coins/tokens? Or could anyone recommend one that will. Much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
@@SeanyBgood happy to respond to people where I can help
"I'm British and we read from left to right..." .....lolll then it makes sense to put the print button last after you've reviewed all the settings etc etc.... :D
better to put it on left because the other stuff is useless 99% of the time
How did you convert the .stl file to .goo for the Tango software??
No se cuando llegara a Amazon España , para comprala.
in between mars 4 max and saturn s which one to buy??
i never had the Saturn s, but I guess the Mars 4 max is the newer one, so that. I doubt it matters.
His videos unavailable but the comments are still up what is this about?
who's video? was this a reply to someone else?
Does Z arm wobble when homing or printing 1st layers?
Not seen any evidence of it
The reason they tell you not to plug your phone into the USB filter port is because it puts out 24vdc and not 5vdc so if you plug your phone into it you will fry your phone and turn your phone into an expensive paper weight
How dare you express your opinions on an opinion based youtube channel! There, my part of increasing your engagement is done. Keep up the great videos with your opinions and information, I may not agree with all of them, but I watch to learn, not to hear things I already know. I have now watched enough of your videos to decide to subscribe.
Thanks so much, glad to have you
Look nice
Just picked up a saturn 3 for $299, it was the same as a saturn 2 idk what happened
if u get this can these printv1 inch figures well?
yeah, they can print anything you ahve the model for
Mine should arrive in 10 days.... maby i should go with the mars 4 9k....
If you want detail more than a large plate, sure, I like this
So i take it this leveling technique works for the Elegoo mars 3 aswell? sounds much easier than the usual way with a4 paper etc..
The problem i have tho, is that after loosening screws, setting printer to home, tightening screws and then set z = 0, when i hit home next time it just smashed into the screen and continues trying to go down even more.. Is there something i'm doing wrong or is this some kind of bug they have with these machines?
also, is it worth upgrading from mars 3 to mars 4? to me, it kinda sounds like it's mostly the same printer with just minor updates, and it feels like in about a year, we will see the same thing happening with resin printers as bambulab did with FDM printers..
does the software works on mac?
Yeah you can get slicers for both platforms
These Elegoo reviews are starting to feel frustratingly similar. In no way is that meant as a criticism of your reviews or video-making, but rather Elegoo seems to have settled into a "let's offer trailing-edge technology with not much else in the way of better build quality, convenience, software/support, et al, and do it cheaply by cutting costs where we can". No doubt there's a market for that - there's definitely a market for entry-level printers - but it almost seems like Elegoo is heading in the direction where reviews can be boiled down to the price tag and whether there are/aren't build-quality issues or issues with the software.
That’s fair, but I’d say wait for my Saturn 3 review
@@FauxHammer ooh, nice teaser! Lol
Any ETA on that video?
@@FauxHammer I am waiting for that one😊
@@stephensimpson881 As soon as I can, right now I have more printers than Time.
@@FauxHammer Understood. Good luck with the backlog!
Move your wash station to the other side 🤔
but then it's backwards. I post-process prints in the same direction as I read...
very good point though.
Why are these printer manufacturers wasting resources making slicers? It's like car manufactures constantly reinventing the wheel when it comes to entertainment software, just let the companies that know what their doing figure it out. Ok I admit the text on the print thing is kind of cool though. . .
Tango is by a separate company, the slicer existed before the Elegoo partnership
so elegoo are dropping chitubox now? wonder why. Voxeldance looks kinda garbage
No, you still get Chitubox with it.
comment for the algorithm
It is apprecited
Lmfao Ross have you never watched Princess Mononoke? Might be the best anime movie ever after Akira of course.
Princess Who? 😉
scaling presupported files is a huge bet, maybe you already know this and if you do maybe you can warn people so they dont think its totally okay to do it and then get horrible failures
Yeah I do, did I say something in this that suggested you could, if I did ooops
@@FauxHammer You didnt say anything while you did it in the background, just a heads up for new people will do in the future :D
Funfact: the recent Anycubic Photon Workshop is cut Version Of Voxeldance Tango and its Freee
Is it? What’s the source of this info?

Too bad it’s not a 12k screen…😎
well the point is, lower cost and entry level. I think the 12k's did not exist when this came out.
@@FauxHammer I was teasing
@@injectionAIah no worries. Was trying to give a good answer
@@FauxHammer you’re doing great
If they really want to reduce cost get rid of the stupid low cost accessories that come with these machines - even when I started with my first Elegoo printer I did not use any of these things.
Actually, the scraper is pretty useful. Should have said that
"Promosm" 🙈
I do t know what that means?
Faux with the click bait as per usual
This is one of the least clickbait thumbnails have ever used? You commented before even watching the video... how would you know it's bait? I literally open the video by justifying that thumbnail.
