They are mounted via a linkage that allows the entire boom to float. It is held at a preset height, but is then not affected by the movements the sprayer makes as it travels across uneven ground and through holes etc. Think of the pole a tight rope walker uses to aid their balance. Well, the sprayer does not do that, but the boom can hold its own when it comes to balance, since the equilibrium remains and no mass is shifted from one side to another. Nor does the mounting point move from its centre. There is movement from the body it is mounted to but a four link flexible mounting system allows for that movement, while the boom maintains its balance.
