Excellent tips. Another tip is to keep the water tap running at max after you have cleaned your dishes, this will drain oils and debris. Most of us shut off immediately finished cleaning plates so not enough water to drain the pipes. Keep the pipes opened for a few minutes. Never clogged again
Baking soda and vinegar and excellent drain cleaner. Use it regularly. Will try now boiling water and dishwashing soap. Thanks for such great home remedies for drains.
Today my washbasin drain was clogged. I seen your remedy and followed it. Thank-you very much for sharing this method of baking soda, dishwash solution and vinegar with hot water. It really worked and made me tension free.
Nice! How do you do it in DW exactly? Put it in the soap thing or just throw it in the bottom? Then run a cycle empty no dishes, I assume? Mine is long overdue lol. Thx!
Sorry to be a downer here but I've been a service plumber for 38 years, if ANY of these were the answer don't you think we would be advocating for them, I never enjoy drain cleaning so would not under any circumstances deny anyone solving their own problems, this is nothing but a temporary reprieve for snaking/jetting the line. When hot water is used all it does is temporarily loosens the grease and sends it further down the waste pipe where it cools and becomes a solid again. Plungers will blow a small hole through the softest debris and let it drain then gets clogged easier then before. Personally I use Dawn dishwashing detergent in all sinks which degreases the drain as it flows, which often then allows the debris caught in it to flow, I haven't had to snake my own drains for many years because of it. But I have had to remove hair caught on things like the popup rod in bathroom sinks popup drains, or it's become caught on the popup itself, which is usually easy to solve by removing the rod trapping the popup in the drain and fishing the hair out.
Just checked your site how to unblock drains whilst visiting my sisters house and did the 1st process and amazing it worked!!! Thank you soo much brilliant
Great ideas for simple drain clogs. Also for toilet plunger I use only the Acordian type that sucks in more water than flange type in it and forces more water into toilet drain hole . Forces more water faster to unclog drain faster. And using very hot water mixed with degreaser /dish soap in toilet first plunging enough to get mixture to clog then for 15-30 minutes wait then plunged again works perfect
There's a hack where you slice little downward notches in a straw or zip tie(s) to make yr own drain grabber snake thingy for hair, gunk, etc. I've got long hair and shed worse than my dog, and this works great in the shower. I'm about to try it in the bathroom sink lol
I use bakingsoda and vinegar every Sunday . It works after I had big blockage that required this little known master fix, One Second blast that was amazingly powerful. Go one line to find it. Beats expensive plumber
As a preventive measure, I fill my double kitchen sinks with water all the way to the top. Then at the same time I pull both drain plug stops, and let the water drain out of both sinks at the same time.
Execellent very easy practical simple cheap and execellent tips for Hauser wife no cost thanks a bunch saves calling plumber and saving pounds with pennies I was ad by plumber not to use drain block it damages the pipes thanks for lesson to open the blocked drain usefull lesson bless keep up good work
I’m glad to see this, because I have the vinegar and baking soda it just got delivered last week, because I have no way to get anywhere. And I’ve got a good plunger and it definitely has power to do the job. My problem, is that I have had dishes in the sink along time and I have a strainer or a screen to keep stuff out of the sink, but I think it got moved and stuff went down there. So this week, my goal is to empty the sinks out I’ve got some stuff I need to throw away that’s in there anyway because I’m swapping out plastic containers and some plates, and then I’m going to clean the drain and get it open. And I do have sodas although none are regular cokes I do have regular seven ups and I have plenty of salt to try that with soda so My goal is to put all my heavy duty gloves, empty the sink, and start doing what I think would be best to go through some standing water; it’s not much but if the natural cures don’t unblock it, I have heavy duty Drano if nothing else works, and I do hate to use chemicals. So thank you so much for sharing because it is giving me other ideas to try.
When using a plunger ina sink it's essential to firmly cover the overflow outlet, otherwise pressure won't build up in the drain when using the plunger.
If the clog is in the drain pipe in the wall, then it is wasted time. A snake is what will fix the problem. It would have to be in the T fitting above the P-trap just under the sink.
Please I highly recommend to use Dawn soap for washing dishes and pots It's the best to prevent unclogged your sink pipe because it desolves the grease much better than the other soap dishes brands .
Dear Sir I thank you very much for suggesting various methods of unclogging the drain viewer followed your # 1 suggestion and with 3peats Voila it works simple easy breeze you are the MAN
Our kitchen sink started draining painfully slowly since I replaced it some years ago, going from a 2 bowl to a single farmhouse type bowl. I had tried just about everything to clear it, but nothing wanted to work. Fortunately, we have a dishwasher, and the drain for it connects to the sink drain just below that drain. Also fortunately, I'm not one to throw things away that I think I might use in the future, and as a result I have a drain plug that I had saved when I removed the garbage disposal (can't use one of those with a septic system anyway, but it came with the house). That disposal drain plus fit the drain perfectly & tightly, so I figured that the hot soapy drain water from the dishwasher would clean things out. Turns out that I was wrong and the clog was tougher than the water & soap and proceeded to push the drain plug out and the water backflowed into the sink before slowly draining. Finally, one day, I decided that enough was enough, so I started the dishwasher, inserted the plug into the drain, and made sure I was right there as the dishwasher started to drain, and put the palm of my hand on top of the plug and held it down in place. That did the trick perfectl;y, and now the drain is clear and fast flowing with no backup from the dishwasher when it is running either.
Dishwashers are a lazy pain, doing your dishes by hand warms my achy arthritis filled hands and keeps the germs away so get busy, no I was not in the military, mom taught me~~~
@@mshum538 That’s an excellent thing. I enjoy doing the dishes too, but our solar system is not really that good, in about 10-15 minutes we run out of hot water… and it snowed in Cyprus first time in 9 years… I got chilblains… had to stop wearing the wedding ring. Sorry for the TMI. Just saying that doing things by hand are a therapy and the pots shine on days you are fuming and seething with anger 😄😄
Here you are something important. When you want to use a pump firstly pour some water into the basin, then put your finger or palm on the opening of the small safety hole, so the air cannot leave the safety tube through the small opening. Then use the pump with your other hand. This way the water in the tube presses the dirty blockage more strongly on the inside.
I like to add a tablespoon of dawn to vinegar soda salt to 4 cups warm water. After pouring it in basin let it slowly sink down the drain. Then pour a kettle of boiling water down drain. Works every time for us. Ps we have metal pipes
Here's my method: Remove the wire hoop from a basin plug and drill a hole through the plug. Glue a garden hose spigot onto the plug. Attach a garden hose to the nearest tap (eg. laundry washing machine cold spigot) and the other onto the plug spigot. Turn on the tap whilst holding the plug in and mains pressure will unblock the pipe!
I've been a plumber for more than 50yrs. I've only had it a few times that the clog was in the trap. That was because grease was poured down a drain and set up like wax on the water in the trap. Most generally the clog is down stream, a build up in the whole drain. You might break it loose with a plunger, but if the drain is vented near by or has an AAV, air admittance valve, plunging is a waste of time. If the drain is totally stopped up, baking soda, coke, etc won't work. If you can't get the solution to the stoppage, it won't work. Pick up a auger in a drum and auger it out. Bath lavs are another story. A lot of the problem is under the stopper. Where the coat hanger will work to pull out a hair clog. For $2. at your hardware store you can pick up a plastic version of the coat hanger that won't damage the drain and won't get stuck ! Remember the stoppage is hardly ever in the trap.........it's a build up in the drain down stream. Do Not pour liquid drain cleaner into standing water or use 2 different kinds. The reaction may cause a bad smell that may be toxic and it will also ruin the finish on your sink.
Sir. You are a master. 14years ago I bought this old house. Suddenly the drain clogged at the lowerest part of the drain pipe. I called the plumber. He came and finished cleaning the waste block. Then he told me do the same way that he did. after that I do it four times a year. Until now no problem at all.
I pour 2 litres of boiling water slowly down the drain. Then I poor a cupful of salt and leave for twenty minutes. Next, I pour another 2 litres of boiling water slowly down the drain. That has worked for me.
I did have and still sometimes to but I bought a strainer which goes over over top of plug hole then nothing hard goes not goes down plug hole all you do is pick up and tip it in bin then wash put over hole again😊
If the baking soda and vinegar does not work, Add boiling water after about 10 minutes. If stubborn repeat 2-3 times. I had a clogged drain third time was the charm. But wait there's more take a wooden chop stick and cut grooves with a utility knife, GENTLY push it down and gently bring it up to remove hairs. You do Not want to lose it down the drain.
my kitchen sink pipe is blocked and it hard to get too .to unblock the pipe i have try most thing to unblock but i may of made it worst by using caustic soda with hot water and it of may gone hard in the pipe .can i have help and anything i can use to unblock thank you
Some of these are effective - if the blockage happens no deeper than a feet or two. For such early blockages these may, indeed, work well. For deeper ones though, not really. (To be fair, the video doesn't make such claims). I've had my fair share of clogged drains, and it almosst never was this early in the pipe, almost always deeper down - where the water in the pipe is cooler - or downright cold - and the grease can cool to solid and start accumulating. A decently maintained and cleaned faucet/toilet will seldom get clogged right at the early section.
That's my problem. the deep blockage means that air pressure stops the sink draining at all so there's no point in filling the sink with harsh substances if itsn't going to head down the waste pipes, and even manual snaking didn't clear it. Not sure if anything else would do it other than calling a plumber. Suggestions?
