    Hi, thank you so much for explaining this.
    My question is what is the purpose of doing the retrospective Cohort design to investigate an outbreak when i can do case control study?

    • @HassaanTohid
      @HassaanTohid  Рік тому

      Rare vs common disease.
      If its common disease, then choose Cohort design. If rare, then choose Case Control. That’s one way to answer. But it all depends on what you want to study?

    Thanks for the video; I have a query from the field of rehabilitation.
    Our objective is to find the risk factors of falls in patients who had stroke. Here we identify patients with stroke and ask them their history of falls in last 3 months and we categorise the patients into fallers and non fallers. At the same time we also assess their different factors like balance, fear of falling etc.. to know which of these factors were influencing the falls.
    Can you mention which design it is..
    Case control/retrospective cohort. Upto my understanding it is a case control study

    I am involved in a study in which we are collecting data about all patients that have had IPMN. The data we are collecting is about potential risk factors, pathological and imaging characteristics. Then we are going to analys it. But we do not have a control group though.
    They say it is retrospective but according to you and because we already know the disease, it should not be retrospective.
    What am I understanding wrong?

    so what type of design can i use if i wanted to study the associaton between of antimicrobial resistant strain and diabetic foot ulcer that results to amputation

    • @HassaanTohid
      @HassaanTohid  2 роки тому +1

      Depends what you want to study. If you want to study “prevalence” and medication has already been administered then go for cross-sectional study.
      However, if no medication is administered and you want to administer medication then it is a clinical trial. And you want to see the effects of certain antibiotics then its a clinical trial for sure. So it all depends what you want to achieve.
      If bacteria is already affecting the limb and you just want to see if amputation will happen then it is a perfect case of cohort study too. Because the population is exposed to bacteria. By the way, case control study is also possible since you already know the outcome “amputation” if you consider amputation as the outcome.

    Thanks for this great video. I'm still confused about a current study I'm involved in though. I hope you can help me. If you have a number of patients that you take samples from the lungs of to examine asthma. You find out that a number of them have asthma according to your diagnostive measures and then you investigate if they would be diagnosed differently if you had only taken samples from one lung. What would you call these studies?

    Great explanation! One of the things I might modify with this video is that the stock visuals are unrelated to the topic. The clip of the eye was jarring at best. This video would have done better without them. Also, for visual learners, symbols such as shapes and arrows that are revealed sequentially as the topic is being presented will make them understand the topic better. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos! This one helped me a lot. Thank you!

    In the retro cohort if you know the risk factor, what are you going in the for?

    • @danisacademiccorner4493
      @danisacademiccorner4493 2 роки тому

      You want to measure the risk of developing a disease between the exposed and up exposed. Retrospective cohorts also have other advantages over prospective- they’re relatively inexpensive and lower risk of losing people in the study. Prospective studies you need to follow participants for many years making it vulnerable to attrition . So retrospective studies counter that. Also by going back in time , it’s easier to locate a large cohort from past exposure records

    Too much sharp sound (at 1.18) freaked me out!!! Be responsible please. This is not a proper way to make videos. Your intro sound is also too high. But still this is a good video. It could be better if you write more on the screen rather than repeating the same thing 10 times. Still, liked this video.

      Dr. Tohid explained it very well. He's got a lot to learn about video production but I'm sure he'll do better next time! The repetition might just be his teaching style but I agree with you that more visual aids would be helpful.
