Wow! I hope to make this for a holiday party someday. What kind of dates do you use? I like medjool dates-- they are my favorite in the world!

Nice vid! But wait a second, they are called *tiger nut* sweets. Tiger Nuts or Chufa Nuts were one of Egypt's most important cultivated plants, so wouldn't the name of the food suggest that the original recipe contained actual Tiger Nuts or Chufa nuts? Just a hypothesis but considering Cufa Nuts taste a bit like sweeter almonds, perhaps it was used to coat the outside instead of almonds?

I was doing some research and i found a different recipe for the tiger nut sweets which do call for Chufa Nuts. its similar to this but makes a dough with chopped dates in it instead. interesting :) I'll try both i think.

vulkein I've heard about the dough version, but I thought it might be tricky to work with because the dates are so sticky - but, go for it!

pecans in ancient egypt are you sure!?

Although there was a type of pecan back then, mostly they stuffed the dates with walnuts. (There were no walnuts at the store when we filmed!).

RobinBenzle Or perhaps THAT is where the Chufa nuts or Tiger Nuts came into play. Perhaps the dates were stuffed with them.
