Just curious how this would work on a single barbless hook , would it be too difficult to get a hookpoint to grip to. Excellent video though, especially the tip about getting the line tight with a bar.
Hi DenisJolly! The lure retriever is really for lures with trebles to give the very best chance of snagging a hook with the chain. Double treble hooked lures are usually easy but single treble lures can be caught too, replicants etc. Single hooks are always going to be difficult though, especially if that single hook point is embedded in a log for example, the hook point won’t be exposed so impossible to be caught by the chains. At least single hook lures are usually cheaper if you do loose them! Tight lines 👍😎
I would fill pipe with lead shot and 5 minute epoxy resin instead of molten lead! Would bamboo be OK to use instead of copper pipe? A beautiful video mate and well worthy of BIG THUMBS UP ALL DAY LONG. Take care my friend 👍😷👍🏴
Hi Andrew, I think lead shot and bamboo would work but pulling the cord after snagging a hook puts a fair bit of pressure on the retriever so might split the bamboo, try it though and let us know how it works! 👍
Hi there! Just go to your plummer and ask for some lead. They got lead from old water pipes ans and Old roof water pipes. And because they need to pay for disposal these days the are glad if someone takes it. Don't buy fishing weights for that. I used to do my own fishing stuff with pipes and lead to save money. Nothing to ve worried about!
How many grams does this pipe has to be or is heavy? Can we simply use lead of 15-45gr with swivel? I also used 35cm x4 chains 1cm is one link, and monofil 0.50mm with 33kg weight...
The weight doesn’t have to be any specific weight, it just needs to be heavy enough to get down to the trace and carry enough momentum to drive it over you trace components. Early trials with a lead ledger weight wasn’t too successful as soon as it came up against the trace swivel, it’d hang up and not go over, the tubular weight ensures there is still momentum pushing it forward when it comes up against the trace swivel
Hey there. I have kinda idiotic question i suppose. I bought a lure retriever similar to this from online and the problem for me is that i just can't get the retriever down to the lure. Does this only work for short range? I also use a very short rod as well. It's 1.95m Westin w3 jerkbait rod. I don't get what's the problem. It seems that i can't get the line tight enough so that the retriever goes all the way down to the lure? Any opinions/ideas on this? Thank you,Robin.
Hi Robin, It does work best at fairly short range, generally The snags are close in anyway (if fishing off the bank) The retriever has to be heavy though, so it wants to sink, the wire loops where the line goes through need to be big enough so there isn’t any resistance and that they slide over the swivel on the wire trace. Try and get the line as high as you can, that helps getting it down. I’ve used on a boat too and it’s fairly simple, only need to get the bot directly above the stuck lure.
One other thing, are you using a pull bar? You can get the line/braid much tighter pulling on it with a pull bar rather than using the rod, too much flex in the rod really
@@apikersprogress you mean getting the line super tight around the pull bar first and then sending the retriever down to the lure? That's a smart idea actually. Might need to give that a go next time. And for me the snags seem to be in the middle of the river or the far bank so yeah lol. Thanks for the advice mate :)

wow im very impressed.. as a 67 yr old lady stroke survivor im out the fishing alot. limited use in left hand. would u b interested in making me a lure retriever send to me in nova sctia? th happy fishing. enjoy and be safe... karen
Haha yes we’ll spotted, did think to put a correction on screen. Got me a burt back on friday, somehow cast it above a tree branch, knew it wouldn’t go back over without hooks snagging so lowered to the water and a few throws of the retriever and got it. Snipped off trace and reeled loose line back to rod. It’s got me loads of lures back, hope you make one! 👌👊

Do you make these because I would definitely buy some off you and even send you all the components free ..brilliant device.
I don’t make these for sale i’m afraid but show you how to make your own! good luck 👍

How long is the orange line? Could you please tell me where to get one. The ones on ebay are only 11M and puny looking.
