Get Off was always one of my favorites off of the album. I had no idea what it was about when I was younger, but I loved the melody and how funky it was. As I've gotten older, I have realized how amazing the whole album really is. So many good songs are on this album. It is probably my second favorite album of his, Purple Rain being the first.
This was my first Prince Album... and I still love it so very much today! The Song "get off" blew my mind back in the days and the song "willing and able" is near and dear to may hart!
His performance on the Arsenio show is online. I'd REALLY suggest you all watch it. It's a landmark performance, at least for me. It was the whole hour with Patti LaBelle as the guest on Arsenio's sofa. Prince didn't talk at all but he slid into the crowd at the very end.
Once again, another great segment. I loved this album. Gett Off and Violet the Organ Grinder were my jams (loved those videos). Gangsta Glam was cool, too. Prince with the suspenders on his swim trunks was funny. I loved Willing and Able, Daddy Pop, Money Don’t Matter Tonight and Insatiable. But, Diamonds and Pearls with Rosie is forever.
Wow! I didn’t know Prince had hired Frank DiLeo for management on this album. Besides, I have fond memories of “Diamonds And Pearls”, because I became a fan around that time. My favorite song from the album is “Live 4 Love”, it gives me the thrills and the lyrics are so intense. Thanks for this new episode, Casey and Camila; you’re awesome!
♪THUNDER ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT♫ I'd say my favorite songs from this album are Thunder, Diamonds and Pearls, Cream, Strollin', Willing and Able, Gett Off, and Money Don't Matter 2 Night.
I love the marketing. The video collection awesome and the Arsenio Hall show. Great stuff and the VMA appearance also awesome. This was a great time to be a Prince fan Gett Off May be the best lead single.
Top Five PRINCE Albums of his Career!!! I Love Diamond &. Pearls 'Get off' is that FUNK Joint fo Real!!! R.I.P. PRINCE THE G.O.A.T. Peace &. Be Wild! 1love
I love this album by Prince. This was my first CD purchase in the 90's when CD's were the thing specially if you break your cassettes a lot for too much play like i did and the sound quality was super. my favorites songs are the title track of course, Cream, Gett Off and Money don't matter 2night.
Thunder! what a song! I recall in 91 going to a school dance and the DJ played it. My friend and I were like, wow is this Prince? it IS Prince! After the song played we went to the DJ and asked where is this song from? He told us its a new album that had just dropped. Funny thing is there were other people at the DJ trying to find out too and we all were like, we are so going into town tomorrow and grabbing this album. To my surprise, all the songs on there were amazing. I just remember laying on the couch listening to this album and not moving until the end just soaking it all up!
I have to go with Gett Off. That song just never gets old and was so important to the rest of the album. Jughead and Push are perhaps 2 of the worst songs ever... by anyone, especially Jughead. Tony should have kept that one out of NPG. Rest of the album was stellar.
Now it makes sense why 'Horny Pony' was name dropped in Prince's rap on the 'Push' track, despite it not being on the album. I'm grateful he replaced it with 'Gett Off' though, since i vastly prefer that song.
Wow, this video made me relive some great memories. I remember thinking that Cream, Willing and Able and Insatiable really felt like a fresh kick off for Prince in the 90s. I always felt like Gett Off (and Violet the Organ Grinder, Gangster Glam, etc.) played like the oddball to the rest of the album, I guess this explains why. And I still think the live video cut of Willing and Able is better than the album version! 💜
The Diamonds & Pearls project is what turned me from an enthusiast to a diehard Prince fan and he backs my favorite artist from this era. It was a joy to see him on TV & on the Radio so much. I was 12 at the time and truly loving it! My favorite song from this album changes but as of the writing of this post, my fav would be “Insatiable” & “Money Don’t Matter 2night”
Thunder, Willing and Able, Insatiable, Strollin (particularly like the jazzy 2002 version). A great review - didn't know any of these facts! Thank you.
the fact that surprise me more was the frank dileo one im-.... also my favorites songs from D&P are Strollin.Daddy Pop,Cream and Get off (I Love the gett off ep)
This was the first Prince record I purchased when I was 12 years old. I always thought Diamonds & Pearls was the first single. Top 3 favorite songs from this album of course. D&P, Money Don’t Matter Tonight, Walk Don’t Walk. I loved Rosie Gaines she was a great addition to the new band. I not the biggest Prince fan but this album is special because it started my music journey as a kid.
One of the very first albums I ever purchased as an early teen w my own money. I still have the cassette that I almost wore out, w that holographic cover art. Its in a box w other memories of my youth 😅 His vocal style on Money Dont Matter 2 Night still tugs at me w sadness after all these years.
Hello Purple People. One interesting thing is that, in 1990, on the Maxi Single of NEW POWER GENERATION, there was already a song already "GET OFF" with only one "T" in the "GET". Now musically the guitar riff of that song has been inverted in order to give the guitar riff for "GETT OFF". So the two songs are musically connected. Those are the things only Prince could do... Peace! (P.S. Thanks so much to The Violet Reality for all these super interesting videos, there are always stuff that I had no idea of in your videos)
My favourite is : walk...don’t walk. I loved the information about the publicity about this album, it totally makes scene now. Great videos, great marketing was always missing from a lot of his albums, just goes to show what can be achieved.
This fact series is like Cream rising to the top !!!! Really enjoyed this one !!! Diamonds and Pearls is my second favorite era of Prince. Cool to learn another business connection shared by MJ. Keep up the good work !!!! These videos are major bright spots right now.
Gett Off is my favorite on this album followed by Insatiable. Not my favorite album, but I love those songs and a couple of other ones. I'm STARTING to like Diamonds And Pearls, but I couldn't STAND it back then
Gett Off is such an epic track , impossible not to Gett up and groove 2 but Violet the organ grinder is one of my all time favorite songs ‘I’ll die but I won’t go away’
My favorite songs from the album r: walk don't walk, strolling, willing and able, money don't matter tonight and get off. The band sounds awesome and Rosie Gains is unbelievable
Once again you did it !!! Strollin is one of my favs and LIVE 4 Luv the live version on the bass "Mr.Sonny T". Gett off is always the Jam.! If ever I were to sing Karaoke I always said I'd sing Money Don't matter 2nite!!!😄 ✌🏾 and B Wild
Great Info! As usual, this album was ok, definitely not in my top 5 Prince albums. But he definitely made up for it with his next album the Symbol album. 1. Willing & Able 2. Gett Off 3.Money don't matter 2night 4.Push 5. Walk don't Walk
This is where his music started to become more jarring and less authentic. Still, it’s miles ahead of some of what came after. My favorite songs are Thunder, Push, Diamonds and Pearls, Live 4 Love
Keep these videos comming! Love this album series! I have a request. As a die hard Prince fan since 1979. I would like to have some questions answered. And I'm sure alot of fans would be interested as well. Would make a great video. Prince is the most bootleged artist I would think of all time. I'm talking about studio recordings not live performances there are other artist that would fit that category like the Grateful Dead. But Prince bootlegged studio recording were everywhere. How did this happen? Was there someone in Prince's camp that release these songs? So, many studio recordings were bootlegged. Was the valt not locked LOL? Did Prince himself ok this to influence Warner Bothers to release more of his music? Was money exchanged to get these bootleged songs? We are talking about 100's of songs ended up on bootlegged LPs. Someone in Prince's camp had to be leaking these songs out. Who? This went on for years! Was Prince mad about this? I do recall hearing him saying a few things about this matter in song and interviews. Please do a video about this. If any one can anwser these questions The Violet Reality can; with your in depth research!
What's your fave song from Diamonds and Pearls? Let us know in the comments and don't forget to subscribe! 💜
OHHHHHHH that's hard
I think mine is money don't matter tonight
Money don’t matter 2 night. Love the socially conscious message. 💜
It is really hard to say. I will go with "Cream," but "Insatiable," "MDT," "Gett Off," and the title track can easily take that spot.
Strollin' is my favorite. But I love Gett Off, too.
This is THE best Prince UA-cam series EVER.
Thank you so much, that's so kind! Glad you are enjoying it 💜
Strollin’. Although not a hit, it reminded me some of his Madhouse gems with Eric & Levi.
❤️ it when he does Jazz.
A truly great song and underrated on this album and perhaps my favorite is ‘Insatiable’
I love EVERY SONG on Diamonds & Pearls! Rosie Gaines was from my hometown! Her voice was awesome and paired beautifully with Prince! 💜
You from tha Town too? I'm for where 40 shot his "Tell Me When To Go" video. Always wondered what happened to Rosie, her voice was amazing!
Get Off was always one of my favorites off of the album. I had no idea what it was about when I was younger, but I loved the melody and how funky it was. Money Don’t Matter 2 Night, it sure didn’t matter yesterday. Just when you think you’ve got more than enough, that’s when it’s all up and flies away.
His performance on the Arsenio show is online. I'd REALLY suggest you all watch it. It's a landmark performance, at least for me. It was the whole hour with Patti LaBelle as the guest on Arsenio's sofa. Prince didn't talk at all but he slid into the crowd at the very end.

Just brought a diamonds and pearls shirt from his website this guy had so many styles it's ridiculous his funk/R&B side shined bright on this album 🕊💧
Frank was really getting around during the 90s and that album cover is Iconic alone
Absolutely awesome, lesser-known facts of an absolutely awesome album!
"Walk Don't Walk"
First album I ever brought I was 9 it was 1991 and it changed me forever.
Favorite song Daddy Pop. Great piece great CD. So insightful. Thanks guys. Love TVR!!!
I can’t get enough of these gems. Awesome info.

Favorite song: insatiable

My favorite song from this era is Violet The Organ Grinder. A recent discovery that should never be denied!
Gett Off had a predecessor named Get Off combined with LoveleftLoveright on the Thieves In The Temple extended single.
Love to the left of me/love to the right. Yeah I used to play that B-side all the time.
Keeps these coming, they are brilliant and I always look forward these amazing and unknown facts 💜💥
Said I’m willing, willing and able. Ready to place my cards on the table

I’ve been waiting for this episode!!!
Technically, it's not a cut from D&P, but mine is the extended version of "Thunder" that Prince created as part of the Joffrey Ballet's _Billboards._
Prince was a genius, tortured creative, most imaginative musician 💕❤💚🧡💋💞💋🧡💘💝💋🧡💖🙏💕
Daddy Pop!! He said I have groove and groove up on the shelf.
