The original animatronic shark was more beastial and menacing then the subsequent sharks in the sequels. Its head which was more squarish in nature likened to a Frankenstein head, with its wide jowels , set it apart from the sequel sharks. When I think of Jaws this is the shark that comes to mind and will forever be the real monster that started the nightmare.
The shark's death in the novel came from a deep harpoon to the belly. The shark simply died before it could get Chief Brody who was defenseless. Steven Spielberg hated the way the shark died which was originally planned. He changed the ending that made Jaws a major hit. Let's say the ending went off with a bang!

I've noticed a few things about the 4 films, they are only sharks, but each shark works differently: in the 1, the shark kills for food, it has a territory and it sticks to it. In the 2, the shark functions as a slasher killer, he destroys and kills for sport. On the 3rd, the shark is locked up in the park and is probably confused and desoriented, it does not eat its victims, rather tends to bite them.
