DIY Concrete Garden Ornaments

- Create interesting garden sculptures at home by casting them in concrete. While concrete does make the pieces heavier, it's also very durable, which makes it perfect for outdoor use. Concrete is simple to mix and use. Just follow the manufacturers directions.
For the ornaments in this oasis, we made the mix a little soupier than normal because it gave the final pieces an extra smooth finish. Almost anything can be used as a form. Try a tub, a bucket, or even a cone. Just be sure you're willing to sacrifice the form in the the unmolding process. This ball is a perfect example. The form is a globe for a light fixture that you pour the concrete into. When it's dry, carefully wrap it in heavy duty plastic. Then gently tap the globe with a hammer to break the glass. It will fall right into the plastic for easy cleanup. So go give concrete a try and come up with your own oasis.

tld597 I made mine and sprayed with metallic, and mirror finish. They look fabulous, you can even mix like a cobalt blue and purple together and it will look just like the glass ones you can find in most stores.
I have done the project, but for how many days I need to wait for full dry?
Or how can I tell if they are dry?
i thought cement had to be mixed with sand and aggregate or sand containing aggregates to make concrete. does this quick crete contain other ingredients to call it concrete.?

A lady said she puts sawdust and something else in the concrete for light hanging things and I can't remember what but maybe light crete with resin?

Can please give ideas to make a rock garden. Without plants. Thankyou.
May I ask why the ball looked so shiny when it was broken down? It did not look like it got wax before that ? Thanks.
Chun Yi Chow you're probably noticing the sheen from the cooking spray used inside the form to make the release easier. Once you release the concrete from the form and wipe it down the shine disappears. Thanks for watching our video.
