hey I am a programming beginner and I have a request, instead of using the compile test for coding you should use the Mandelbrot set test by benchmark games, as it shows real performance of the machine. python for multicore. its easy to do and it is much more relevant. if have any issues in running those tests you can ask me as I have had some and you can refer to Alex Ziskind's videos for it. this would be of great help to people watching your channel

yeah frr like the obvious choice for me as I'm on a budget is to go for M1 but the design man. The thick bezel of M1 Air's just bogged me, out of everything like that black bar looks useless. M2 on the other hand looks modern and having that extra space on top is like a dedicated space for the mac options. Also knowing Apple, only refreshes their notebook design for like every 7 years. Hopping in to the first gen redesign is a smart choice like your laptop wouldn't look so outdated in the future.
This is really a good and comprehensive reviews. BUT it would be really appreciated If u could also make a comparison video between M1 16Gb/256GB model and M2 16GB/256GB .
I got the base m1 air as my first apple laptop and I was weary.. the m1 interested me though and my 12 year old Dell had died. Two years later, this is probably my most prized possession. Not cause cost, but because I use it probably 8 hours a day. It’s an amazing machine. It feels first-class. My Dell felt like economy lol.
Hello. I want to have a nice experience in areas such as video/film, note-taking, listening music, and editing, and I'm looking for a "long-lasting" device. In other words, my priorities include high-quality visuals, quality audio, writing experience, etc. MacBook M1 - 16GB - 256 (Is it unreasonable to buy it because it's 2020?) MacBook M2 - 16GB - 256 (2022) The M2 version is $230 more expensive, but I can afford it. However, some say that if the M2 doesn't have a 512GB SSD, it might experience slowness. Is this noticeable problem? I think the M2 being more recent is a good thing for longevity. Does the M2 provide a noticeable different experience compared to the M1 based on the features I'm looking for? The issue of "slowness" bothers me, especially if it doesn't have the 512GB.
Been following since a bit before your channel exploded in 2020/21 and thanks for the opportunity of winning a Mac, my Acer is dying and I’m crossing my fingers 🤞🏻 That said as usual your video is probably the best comparison there’s on UA-cam! Sure the M2 is overall better, speed aside, but the price gap is too hard to ignore.
if you're buying in used markets, MacBook Pros are a much better deal. People buy the M2 Air is for the new design. But it's ashamed that Apple put just one NAND chip in the base model, making the SSD speed slower than the old Air. Upgrading it to 512GB would push the price to very close to base 14-in MacBook Pro, which again, is a much better computer overall.
I got MBA M1 16GB/512GB in Dec 2020. At that time many people were saying (rightly so) that it's the worst Apple Silicone laptop (new would be better). I haven't't regreted the purchase at all and would buy it again now even though M2 is available. If M2 had support for 2 external displays it could change my attitude a bit. For what I use it for: Java development, editing family photos in Lightroom, editing family videos in DaVinci Resolve I couldn't have made a better choice. Looking forward to 3nm process. Maybe then I'll have urge for upgrade. For the time being I'm more than happy with M1 MBA.
@@gxs8p578 I have MBA M1 with 16GB and 512 GB SSD and do Java professionally. You can say whatever you want about M1 but not that it's slow. The only thing that would convince me to upgrade in the future is 3nm process and considerably improved efficiency (battery running time).

Great video, congrats in 200k when you reach it. Been loving my MBA M1. But have issue with microphone, thats the only reason I would upgrade to MBA M2
apple really rushed this product out and even though i feel like i would love the midnight color, i should just purchase an M1 to upgrade the SSD and RAM because those add up quick $$$. i wonder if apple will take their time with M3 or sell it to consumers next year hoping we will "buy" their market slogan "improved and better performance" but with a lot of flaws
I think since M3 is going to be on a new 3nm node from TSMC it will be more efficient than M2. The M2 Air is still faster than the M1 Air but it's too pricey.
I'm having a bit of a dilemma at the moment. I'm thinking about upgrading my intel 2020 MacBook air to either the M1 MacBook air or the M2 MacBook air. I'm heading into college as a freshman and don't plan on doing any coding or 3D rendering or anything of the sort; just taking pre-medical courses. After having education pricing, trading in my current MacBook air for $325 credit, and using the $150 gift card provided (I plan on asking to apply the gift card to the same purchase instead of being provided the gift card only after the purchase), the price for the M1 MacBook air will go down to $424, while the base model M2 MacBook air goes down to $624. My current laptop works fine and I haven't had much of a problem with the performance aside from the occasional hiccup in speeds, probably due to thermal throttling. If anything, I would be paying this $424 or $624 for convenience instead of actual "needs". Is it worth upgrading to one of these models? Should I instead focus on putting the money into my Roth IRA and wait out a couple years until at least the 2024 models come out? Thanks.
I have the m1 MacBook Air, and it is an absolute champ, just save some money and go with m1 , and I’ve done tons of research and the m2 has horrible cooling problems so you will just get worse performance with the m2 MacBooks. So just get the m1 air
I do web development (frontend). I'm currently using a core i7 1165G7 16GB RAM DDR4 3200 Linux. I want to know if a base MacBook Air M1 (8GB RAM) is better or, at least, equivalent in firepower. In some benchmarks, considering the multicore score, seems to show TWICE the score (the Mac is higher). I often reach 80% of my RAM capacity
I‘ve been subscribed for a long time, I decided to purchase the M1 air last year after watching series of your videos of comparison and its ability. I've always want to say thank you to you for your video, but I was't able to comment in youtube until recently I found out why. It was due to my VPN's problem, BTW I come from somewhere I need to use VPN to watch youtube LOL.
This will be my first time getting a MacBook and I’m very undecided on a m1 or m2 (upgraded specs 512gb and 16gb ram) the m2 being about $250 more idk why people keep saying upgraded m2 is the same range as a m1 14” pro when after tax it’s over 1800, about $300 more than an upgraded m2. Not sure about you but that’s not exactly pocket change. Btw any suggestions between the m1/m2 are appreciated
The problem for me with the M1 Air is price and spec, as a minimum I'd get 512/16 and when you spec it like that suddenly you're not far off the base 14 Pro and personally if it was my money thats the one I'd get. I know costs have gone up but Apple should have dropped the M1 Air price and bought in the M2 at $999US for the base.
hey can you stream on twitch and play on low settings at the same time? and I'm wondering if you play long time let's say 1-2 hours FPS starts dropping? thermal throttling i mean
TBH, only the SLIGHTLY BIGGER (by 0.3 inch) SCREEN of the M2 is what makes me wanna choose it (though I'm not really sure of its significance over the slightly smaller m1 in real world scenarios). 😅 I don't really mind the slightly better chip (arguably), slightly brighter screen, slightly better camera, slightly thinner bezels, slightly wider touchpad, slightly better speakers (arguably) magsafe, and full-sized function keys. IF ONLY the M1 and M2 both have the same screen size, then I would easily go with the older, cheaper one, the M1. 😔 APPLE knows how to play the game. 😂
I’m very disappointed that Apple throttled the base version of the M2, and bet they will be sued to high heaven for it. Because of this I’m going to get the M1 instead. I refuse to shell out another $200 to upgrade the memory.
Some people have asked which temperature monitoring app I'm using, it's called TG Pro and can be downloaded here: crtd.tech/tgpro

Usually I use macbook for 5 years , so the M2/16G/512G/8C8G is my choice. Yes, it's not cheap, but if you divide the price difference by 5 years it's still a good deal.
Still on the fence whether the faster SSD in the M1 outweighs the processor/display/camera/speakers of the M2 air
I'd rather have a cooler machine with faster ssd, so I would choose the M1 MacBook Air for programming
Great comparation video. Thanks 👍👍👍And good luck to your 200k subs!
thank you for the informative video!
Thanks for this comparison.
Thank you so much for this review!!!
great video mate 😃
This was so helpful!
What’s the visibility comparison when outdoors? The quick shot in the video couldn’t see anything on the screen, was it actually on?
Thanks for making it clear!
Great video!
happy to see your videos
Thanks for the video :)
Thank you for the helpful review! :)
I can’t wait to get the new M2 Air! But I guess by time I save enough for it with the ssd and ram upgrades they’ll be releasing the M3! How wonderful!
Then you can get the M1 and floored discount by then.
Nice video bro!
The M1 air with 16gb ram and 512 gb ssd costs me around 1500 Euros, the M2 Air with the same config costs almost 2000 Euros just the same as the 14 M1 pro. I have started video editing as a hobby and currently use my desktop pc (R5 5600x, 3080, 32gb ram) for that but I want something as well for the go since I am often on the go. Which model would you recommend me? I want to keep the device at least for 5 yrs.
I have the same thought! What did u do?
@@christinasvevo4280 went for the M1 air. Since I travel quite often this choice suits me well. I wish the display was a bit larger though
hey I am a programming beginner and I have a request, instead of using the compile test for coding you should use the Mandelbrot set test by benchmark games, as it shows real performance of the machine.
python for multicore.
its easy to do and it is much more relevant.
if have any issues in running those tests you can ask me as I have had some and you can refer to Alex Ziskind's videos for it.
this would be of great help to people watching your channel
My M1 MBP purchase is really justified, since I could only afford the base 256GB.
I've started to subscribe your channel from only days ago but I truly love all of your videos!
I really can't stop myself to watch each of them and all of them really do give me useful and worthy informations
Impressed by your deep insight of new MacBook Air M2 and also delighted to see your lovely cat!
I'm sincerely appreciated your precious views you suggest to us. it barely happens to me to watch videos so interestingly with English subtitles since I'm non English native haha but it's so big pleasure me to dig into each of your videos!
Thanks again! Wish you have great days with your adorable cats and I'll keep look forward to watch your videos!
Big support from Korea
Thanks for the kind words, glad to hear you enjoy the videos :)
Great comparison!
M2 all the way loving my Air base model ! Dont notice ssd speeds at all .
Had the choice between both and when next to each other M2 looks amazing
yeah frr like the obvious choice for me as I'm on a budget is to go for M1 but the design man.
M1 would still be better. The crippled SSD on the base M2 is no joke
@@MF_OXF what do you really use the mba for? I doubt anyone who take video editing seriously runs it on 256gb ssd
@@RunForPeace-hk1cu Yeah any serious video editor or enthusiast wouldn't stick with only 256GB SSD. They'd have 512 at the very least but usually 1TB.
I would love to see this comparison, with an external ssd it would be an awesome value
Thanks for the review. M1 Air seems to be the way to go instead of the base model M2
Apple perfectly planned to fit this M2 MacBook Air in between M1 and M2 pro 14inch
Thanks for this video. For us M1 2020 owners, still an excellent device . . . M2 is a welcome change but we still like M1.
I'm both M1 and M2 owner. M2 any day.
@@Salty_Biscuitz88 what makes you think it is better?
Definitely going for m1 here. Thanks for the comparison, it helped me a lot 👌
Hello. I want to have a nice experience in areas such as video/film, note-taking, listening music, and editing, and I'm looking for a "long-lasting" device. In other words, my priorities include high-quality visuals, quality audio, writing experience, etc.
MacBook M1 - 16GB - 256 (Is it unreasonable to buy it because it's 2020?)
MacBook M2 - 16GB - 256 (2022)
The M2 version is $230 more expensive, but I can afford it.
M1 is a champ with time proven performance ability. For the price you can't go wrong 👍
such good video 🔥
this was really an ultimate comparison, for which I was looking for.
in germany there is a 500€/$ difference between these two
yea man same in Slovakia
if i were to get the M1 how many years would it last me before i’d have to upgrade? (average student use and music production)
I clicked the link for the macbook air m2 in the description and it says its only $1049 right now??? How???
Been following since a bit before your channel exploded in 2020/21 and thanks for the opportunity of winning a Mac, my Acer is dying and I’m crossing my fingers 🤞🏻
That said as usual your video is probably the best comparison there’s on UA-cam! Sure the M2 is overall better, speed aside, but the price gap is too hard to ignore.
Gorgeous!
Kudos!
if you're buying in used markets, MacBook Pros are a much better deal. People buy the M2 Air is for the new design. But it's ashamed that Apple put just one NAND chip in the base model, making the SSD speed slower than the old Air. Upgrading it to 512GB would push the price to very close to base 14-in MacBook Pro, which again, is a much better computer overall.
Best review
Mba m1 16gb or mba m2 8gb? Which one is better for android, ios, angular and java dev?
@@gxs8p578 I have MBA M1 with 16GB and 512 GB SSD and do Java professionally. You can say whatever you want about M1 but not that it's slow. I would take 16GB any day over 20% more CPU power that M2 offers. The only thing that would convince me to upgrade in the future is 3nm process and considerably improved efficiency (battery running time).
@@PawelP76 great, thanks! one thing holding me back is that the mba m1 is already 2 years old, while the mba m2 has slow ssd. will also use it for java dev.
Damn, that’s an ideal setup. I dumbly walked into Best Buy needing one that day.. learned the only sold the base. Even the 13” pro was base only. I was worried but it’s been great. I’d have gladly paid the extra $400 to have double storage and ssd like you have.
You must love that thing, I love mine and it’s the most basic laptop apple makes lol. It’s high end to me
Silicone lol.

M2 all the way! My Midnight is coming on thursday!
BOOO, M1 better all around for every day activities.
With sales and lower prices recently, M2 is not worth the extra 30-40% imo, with the slow ssd on top of that...
I still like the M1 wedge shape. The tapered edge makes it look so thin and sleek, even if technically thicker.
M2 base should have been 16gb and 512ssd. Thank you for the video. I hope to win the computer for school.
Is this base model comparison?
Just got my Macbook Air and learning a lot... so far I like it.
Help! M1 w 16gb or Stock M2??
Heavy office user
Great video. A very helpful comparison. I purchased the MacBook Air M2.
My MBP M1 is a great buy, I do need the active cooling for future proof, but I've never heard the fans, wondering if those are there haha
Thanks for the support! Glad you are enjoying the videos :)
Have you tried to apply liquid metal instead the thermal paste in the m1 and m2 laptops?
Can i go with apple macbook air m1 256gb or either build a pc for 80k? Which will be good for editing and slight gaming
Subscribed! I'm looking to buy a new MacBook and was torn between the M1 and M2 MBA. Thank you for clearing all my doubts ❤️
but i like macbook m1 because of its design build.
$500 USD is far off for me...
The only reason I'm getting the M2 Apple MacBook is because I have the money just enough to buy it.
I think I'm leaning towards the M1 since I'll just be using it for light use
I am still going to get the M2 air because I would rather not have someone at school trip over my charging cable and yank my M1 Air off the table.
hey can you stream on twitch and play on low settings at the same time? and I'm wondering if you play long time let's say 1-2 hours FPS starts dropping? thermal throttling i mean
TBH, only the SLIGHTLY BIGGER (by 0.3 inch) SCREEN of the M2 is what makes me wanna choose it (though I'm not really sure of its significance over the slightly smaller m1 in real world scenarios). 😅
I don't really mind the
slightly better chip (arguably),
slightly brighter screen,
slightly better camera,
slightly thinner bezels,
slightly wider touchpad,
slightly better speakers (arguably)
magsafe,
and full-sized function keys.
IF ONLY the M1 and M2 both have the same screen size, then I would easily go with the older, cheaper one, the M1. 😔
APPLE knows how to play the game. 😂
really nice
So if i get the m1 through amazon the price is 899$ where as the BnH link says 870$. Why is it cheaper through BnH? Is there a catch im missing?
Have you had issues with lots of scuff marks or scratches on the ports from the USB C cables on the aluminum coating?
Not personally, but I've only been using it for 2 weeks. I think there will definitely be some noticeable ones in the future.
SSD on M2 is slower than m1 ?
Can it smooth do video editing for youtube?
I’m very disappointed that Apple throttled the base version of the M2, and bet they will be sued to high heaven for it. Because of this I’m going to get the M1 instead. I refuse to shell out another $200 to upgrade the memory.
M1 for sure. The wedge shape is iconic
2:49 the newer Air supports 1 billion colors, too
