Love your channel and your sweet cat🐈🎀🤗I think I would love Olga. I only have ever used sewing scissors. LOL. My grandma years ago taught me to quilt AND I STILL QUILT BY HAND. I HAVE A HUGE QUILTING FRAME handed down to me from her. 🤗❤️🐈☕️
Oh that's fun! My husband's grandma has a huge quilting frame in her barn. They used to gather around every Sunday and hand quilt with family! :)
The 60 mil was a game changer for me I hated cutting fabric until I took the plunge and purchased the with the 60 mil. I love the way it cuts through multiple layers like butter. I like to cut all my pieces and then sew. Thanks for the review.
I use the 45 and it’s great! I’m a beginner sewer and it makes it super easy and quick
I've used rotary cutters a lot but really appreciated learning how to better use them with detail that should have been obvious to me but wasn't.
I had the one that had the handle that you push and I did not like it. I purchased the Olfa 45mm and I love it. It is a game changer for me. Less strain on my hand. My cuts are more accurate. Good explaination Erica, Thanks.
I am new to quilting so I am using a Fiskars 45 mm right now that came with my cutting mat and ruler. I’m looking forward to trying out the Olaf rotary cutter with the 45 mm pinking shears blade. Thank you for making this video!
Love my rotary cutter I have the blue one. Also you can use fiskers in the olfa.
I have tried several different rotary cutters. I like the OLFA. I really like the blade changing feature. I haven't used the 60mm for quite some time so I wasn't aware of the new features. I love watching your videos I always learn something new. Thanks for a great review.
I, too, use Olfa but somewhere came across a video for a Martelli and bought one to try. I like both brands.
Olfa is my favorite as well. I have the 40th anniversary still in the package!
I have started using Martelli and for my RA it is awesome. I do need a small one for appliqué though so I will get an olfa
Thanks for sharing that you like the Martelli. I want to get one. I saw Sew Becca’s demonstration and the ergonomics look great!!!
I love a rotary cutter. I have couple of Fiskars right now, but think I will add an Olfa cutter to my collection.
Ditto I've only used fiskars want to try olfa
I like the fiskars much better
The Olfa Splash rotary cutters are also my favorite, I think I have them in every color. So easy to change the blade too. I had wondered if the Endurance Blades were really worth the extra price, I will have to give them a try.
I have both a 45 Olfa and a smaller rotary blade, can't remember the size and I have a small fiskars that is a different handle. I like them all for different reasons. One thing that I learned that makes a huge difference is a new sharp blade. Plus I now only use the brand blades. I bought some cheap ones before. Not worth the savings. The brand blades last longer and cut better.Thank you for sharing this!👍
I only use Olfa blades! My mom did too. I got one of the ergonomic ones for Christmas and, like you, I didn’t like it as much as the regular one!
I was glad to see this video. I like how easy it is to change the blades but I wish you could show us the difference in the edges using the special blades. Why do you need a wave cut edge or scallop cut? I know the pinking help keep the fabric from freying.
Sorry about that! You can use the wavy edge or scallop edge for things like quilt labels that you are going to sew on and leave the edge out, you can also use them in scrapbooking. Here's a video that shows their decorative blades: ua-cam.com/video/_sTGx6zS_f4/v-deo.html
@@erica_arndt Thank you Erica ❤️
Very good review and tutorial. I now know how to use them. Thanks much
Lots of great info! Thanks for sharing!
Like you, I love my Olfa! I seem to collect them😂
I am so new to the youtube and this kind of viewing. How do I join your blog? I LOVE your videos!!!
Erica, I Love your videos! Do you have a video about sewing machine needles, threads and presser feet?
Hi, I'm sorry I don't currently have a video on those, but I'll add it to my list!
Love your videos!❤🐢
I’ve never heard them called rotary trimmers before. Interesting
What? What do you call it?
@@andreaf5765 Most People including diff companies who manufactur them refer to them as Rotary "Cutters" not trimmer.. including but not limited to Sewology and Fiskars
Oh sorry, you can also call them cutters :)
Thank you Erica, I going to try the 45mm. I’ve been waiting for your March review of the sew sampler box, I was underwhelmed and wondered what your thoughts were before I cancel my subscription.
I was disappointed as well ☹️
March box was so much better than the dotted panel in the box before.another box like the ugly dot panel and I will be stopping the box
My review just went up ua-cam.com/video/BsB64pfiLCs/v-deo.html and every now and then I get a box that's so-so, but for the most part I've liked them and I've had my subscription for about four years now.
The clip will not hold the blade in when I eassemble. What am I doing wrong?
I’ve never used the scalloped blade what would you use that for?
You can use it for scrapbooking, card-making, and other paper crafts. But I like to use the on my quilt labels to give them a decorative edge. I used them on the numbers for my Wonderland Advent Calendar you can see it here: bit.ly/3f52RUw
I love and have only Olaf’s.
Question I just recently purchased the 45mm and the blade doesn’t want to move unless I use a lot of pressure. Any suggestions on what to try?
Make sure you don't have two blades stuck together, they come with a bit of oil between the blades so they can get stuck and you don't realize it! Also if you have the Olfa Red one it has a screw knob on it so you can control how much pressure is on the blades. You should NOT have to put much pressure at all, it should roll easily.
This is an off subject question, but im hoping you can help. I have completed a tshirt quilt top for my daughter. It's pretty big as it covers and hangs down about 12 inches on a queen size bed. Whew! I have a Juki tl2010q and I quilt throw size quilts, so I do have quilting experience. However, I'm scared to death to start on this quilt. It was made from tshirts from my daughter's sorority in college so they are special to her. I dont want to mess it up. Do you have any suggestions that may help me? Thank you in advance for any help.
Hi, You should definitely be able to quilt that size quilt on your Juki. I would do one section at a time, I usually break my quilts in to four quadrants and do it that way. But you could also go through and quilt each t-shirt differently too! I would say if you have experience already, I would just go for it! I'm sure she'll be so happy to have something that you made from start to finish! :)
Thank you so much. I'm gonna go for it.
With my Olfa Splash rotary cutter, when I’m cutting my pinking blade has been coming off but the back clip is still in the locked position. I don’t know if I have a faulty cutter or not.
That's odd, is it an Olfa blade? Mine works fine, but I don't use it that often either so...maybe try a different blade and make sure it's Olfa to see if that helps?
@@erica_arndt it is an olfa, pinking blade. I stick with name brands
