A little info on Adix. One of the 10 largest sailing yachts in the world, steel hull and teak superstructure it was owned by an Australian brewery owner(hence the name?) Sold to a Spanish banker in 1990.( Banking must be a money making business) It's for sale, or was, for $31.5 million. Leo was the 1st officer. No mean feat for someone who's 28 years old. Yes? So, if anyone expresses doubt as to his bona fide and determination to rebuild Tally Ho, think again. Safe as houses.
The Adix was here in Brisbane (Australia) for around four months from September last year (2019) for a refit at The Yard. Didn’t get an opportunity to see her sadly.
There was also an issue with the owner and a Picasso painting that he owned... Spain has some pretty ridiculous export laws on what they can arbitrarily decide to be "culturally significant" and even if you own the item, you can't take it with you out of the country (i.e. move it from one house that you own in one country to another house that you own in a different country)... In the end though, it is all about money and although the jail sentence was revoked, the fine was significantly more than the worth of the painting... Best government money can buy apparently... My impression of Spanish law enforcement is not very high though...I'm an old fart with limited mobility... I was flying out of Barcelona a few years ago and was harassed by one of their officers because he did not like the solid head on my walking cane (which I had NEVER had a problem with at ANY airport before)... He demanded that I take the head off the cane and it fly in checked baggage, which was not possible because the bags had already been checked and were in the luggage compartment of the aircraft... I removed the head from the cane and told him that he was free to shove it up his ass... End result was that they used a wheelchair to get me to the plane and gave the head of the cane to the pilot, who said that it was ridiculous and gave it back to me and I continued my flight, hobbling along with my cane...
Alan Bond was the original owner. A colourful Australian who was convicted of fraud and spent several years in prison. He also bankrolled the successful 1983 challenge to the Americas Cup. The first time the NY Yacht Club had lost the cup in the history of the club.
I am astounded by the entire project, from your skills of draftsmanship, seamanship, shipwrightship if that's a word, and the audacity of taking on this massive venture. Together with your excellent skills as narrator and videographer, it is almost incomprehensible that these talents would be located in one brain. I about had to change my underwear when, without assistance, you were raising the boat off its keel. I don't say these things idly. I've done a circumnavigation, built a small boat, and confess to being an avid consumer of boatbuilding and woodworking videos. Your story is truly remarkable. Best of luck with this project.
i believe we are witness to a practical example of the phrase "do something you love and youll never work a day in your life" Bravo Leo, admire you for the life you lead and the work you do.
Leo, as it turns out you are my land neighbor. I don't have much time but I get laid off every once in a while, I'm a traditionally trained shipwright and would love to check out Tally Ho and possibly lend a hand once in a while.
I cannot imagine anything more satisfying, or mentally and physically rewarding than to be young, fit and skilled, and a useful member of a well organised and motivated crew on such a beautiful vessel.
You seem young to be as experienced as I perceive you to be. An accomplished builder of wooden boats, and an accomplished sea going sailor, First Officer, navigator. Very impressive.
I recall him acknowledging some time back that if he'd known how much work he'd bitten off, he'd likely not have jumped in . . . and yet he was glad to have done so, after all ! DUDE HAS SKILLZ . . . not just in boat handling and building, but in camera work; editing; story telling; and building a community of people, some of who may not have even realized they had an interest in boats and boating. B-)
Wow, Adix is beautiful. I am beginning to see that Tally Ho is not just in a good pair of hands, she is in the care of the best she could hope for. Keep on keeping on.
This must be such a wonderful job if you are a keen sailor - sailing someone else’s £30 million boat around the most beautiful places in the world! As for your project ... truly an inspiration - all the best from Devon UK
This is one of my favorite videos on this channel. I come back to watch it every now and then because the sailing is just so fascinating. Can't wait to watch you make videos like this aboard Tally Ho.
Wow, there's a lot packed into this one episode. Adix is an amazing boat, and she clearly has an amazing crew. What a way to make a few bucks! For some, that passage would be a whole season of a youtube channel. Impressive.
Im so so glad I found your channel the other day.....I watched all your videos in one day and I'm blown away at your many talents and work ethic.....man your motivating me. I just bought a 1966 61 foot wooden classic Stephens power yacht. it's my 11th big wood boat in 25 years but only my third largest and it's been a few years since my last so you have really helped me in my drive to tackle the hard work ahead. Thanks brother for sharing your amazing life.
Leo, at first I was disappointed that you weren't going to be doing some insane renovation task on Tally Ho this week, but I was instead pleasantly surprised to tag along with you on the amazing Adix. Wow! What a beautiful vessel. Don't let it go to your head, but you are the real deal. An amazing shipwright and an accomplished sailor! I can't wait to see your next video.
Thanks so much for taking us along on your journey. You video presentation was excellent. The shot of the red binnical light and the moon light would have made Captain Jack Aubry homesick! Well done.
your devotion in term of quality is not only visible in your boat building or sailing, it shines in these videos as well! man, this is great and not la vagabond (no offence to them)
They, SLV, used to have a really good channel until they got the Outremer. Then everything went to commercial hell, they changed, and it'll never be what it was. Shame.
Another delightful video. I want to add my kudos to the owners for the huge commitment required to maintain and operate a yacht of that stature. Thank you for sharing it with the rest of us.
A well trained crew to poach for her trip back to england. You really have a lot of bases covered for what you're doing. I'm not involved, but I can't help but be excited for the rest of your build. Just brilliant.
Even though this video might be many months ago, it's one of my favorites. The power of the sea, Adix sliding through it gracefully and a wonderful crew and First Officer make it a treasure to watch. Thanks for sharing this.
Lucky you young one to have the options to crew on such a fine yacht. Do all you can while you are free and not tied down or burden with health issues or age haunts. I just found your site so now I’ll be watching too. Take care
I thoroughly enjoyed that video. Beautiful watching that boat sail. If you are ever passing through the Boston area and need anything PM me, I would be happy to assist!
VERY strange moment watching this - I had Radio 4 on at the same time in the background, but not really listening to it. Then, just as the voyage was ending, I became aware of the Shipping Forecast music playing! I'd forgotten I had the radio on, so for a few confused seconds thought it was on the video soundtrack - just long enough to wonder why Leo had included music only British Radio 4 listeners would understand!
Reminds me of when I was in the Navy and on the USS Virginia (SSN-774). We commissioned and sailed down to the Bahamas before sailing back up to Kingsbay, GA for degausing the boat and then sailing back up to Groton, CT.
Leo, the more I watch your channel, the more I enjoy it. I subscribe to a couple other channels where people are building boats. I love thiem because their dreams are big, and they've done something to follow through with those dreams. In your case, you are a seasoned sailor who can handle square rigged schooners. That means I am really pulling for you because you answered the call of the before you ever took to building a boat. You must be at sea even if you also make money at it. I briefly lived aboard a three masted schooner in the South Pacific, so I get it. I'm still asking for more video of your feathery green First Mate. Cheers! Be safe, and thanks for including us in your journey.
Happy to watch your adventures while I stay home. Interestingly I got the shipbuilders bug a couple decades ago by watching the film Message in a Bottle and designed and built a model ship about 4 feet long to get it out of my system.
Sailed in through the town Cut and then to St. George’s Bay after customs tied the boat up at the dinghy yacht club and had a great time for 2 1/2 weeks.
Adix is a gorgeous boat and must be hugely expensive to run if they can fly you out from across the country for a week or so of work and have it be worth your while in terms of having funds to put aside for Tally Ho's kitty. Grand sailing that, thanks for the footage you shot and shared.
I lived for a while in the Appalachian mountains of northern North Carolina I used Black Locast for my home decking and after 15 years it showed no signs of wear. I does like to move a lot and every screw that I used to put the deck down had to be drilled. 8 ft x 80 ft of decking. Lots of drilling. I found old Black Locast fenceposts around the property and when I removed them I could still see the axes marks that put a point on the post. the post was almost 100 years old. we could tell by the type of barbed wire used. good luck with your work. My wife and I did 5 Years on a 38ft plastic fantastic in the Caribbean.
Hey, just found out about your channel from Salt and Tar. She is a beauty and I'm so glad you are saving her! We will be following along with your adventure!
Started binge-watching and really like this sailing break. Hoping Tally Ho will look as good as this one! Love the music choices on all of your videos!
Just found you and am now caught up to current. You are completely out of your mind and I love it! Beautiful boat and inspiring work. Please keep the work and videos coming, just amazing!

Loved it!
i really wish i could sneak onto one of these ships and sail with them for however long it takes them to get sick of me
What a beauty. Wild seeing such a large sailboat get up and move that fast.
How do I get a job like that? (Seriously...)

As safe as houses indeed. Wonderful coming back to the first videos.

Homonyms are real.
I cannot imagine anything more satisfying, or mentally and physically rewarding than to be young, fit and skilled, and a useful member of a well organised and motivated crew on such a beautiful vessel.
I think that's the very first, "Hey ______, what'cha doin?" at 3:12 :)
You seem young to be as experienced as I perceive you to be. An accomplished builder of wooden boats, and an accomplished sea going sailor, First Officer, navigator. Very impressive.
Adix is a beautiful boat! What a contrast though, going from a fully crewed boat to your lone project! You are a brave determined man!
I recall him acknowledging some time back that if he'd known how much work he'd bitten off, he'd likely not have jumped in . . . and yet he was glad to have done so, after all ! I hardly ever comment on any you tube video's, But this guy is a true Englishman who's skills and knowledge are great to watch let alone have..
Looking back again at this video remembering you are first and foremost a sailor. Your wood working skills are awesome as your sailing.
This must be such a wonderful job if you are a keen sailor - sailing someone else’s £30 million boat around the most beautiful places in the world!
As for your project ... truly an inspiration - all the best from Devon UK
As a Bermudian I loved seeing the Island in this episode!
I liked the quick shot of Orion at around 4:40.
One of the best video's on You Tube.
Excellent footage , music , mood and editing.
Thank you for sharing your remarkable "journey" !
I wish I was 30 years younger and made better choices maybe in my next life , well done thanks
This is one of my favorite videos on this channel. I come back to watch it every now and then because the sailing is just so fascinating. Can't wait to watch you make videos like this aboard Tally Ho.

Leo is an amazing young man. There’s nothing he can’t do.
Thanks so much for taking us along on your journey. You video presentation was excellent. The shot of the red binnical light and the moon light would have made Captain Jack Aubry homesick! Well done.
Right in my neck of the woods. I was actually working at the marina next door when that ship came into berth.
your devotion in term of quality is not only visible in your boat building or sailing, it shines in these videos as well! man, this is great and not la vagabond (no offence to them)
They, SLV, used to have a really good channel until they got the Outremer. Then everything went to commercial hell, they changed, and it'll never be what it was. Shame.
They're super nice people, and I only wish them well, but I entirely lost interest after the Outremer. It stopped being an adventure.
same I watched all their videos until the outremer. I'm still subbed but I'm not watching anymore
Another delightful video. I want to add my kudos to the owners for the huge commitment required to maintain and operate a yacht of that stature. Thank you for sharing it with the rest of us.
Stunning ship
Excellent diversion from pounding out keel bolts. One beautiful yacht.
I see Adix is off again to St Maarten.
Kudos to the owner of Adix. It takes a special kind of person to make a commitment to such a beautiful vessel.
Said owner faces jail for art smuggling...
theres no good money nor bad.... just money..
I would love to crew a vessel like that...it is on the bucket list for sure.
Loved the music and videography!
No wonder you love the sea! You look like you're quite at home sailing on it! Great vid! Thanks!
Thumbs up from me....btw - I had no idea that a schooner could achieve those sort of speed, even in a blow !!
A well trained crew to poach for her trip back to england. You really have a lot of bases covered for what you're doing. I'm not involved, but I can't help but be excited for the rest of your build. Just brilliant.
A glimpse of Orion's belt at 4:41?
Beautiful camera work. Found your channel a week ago and now devouring it.
Thank you Leo!
What a great diversion for you. They say recreation is just another type of work.
what a magnificent vessel Adix is - very enjoyable to see. Thanks.
Love Bermuda I visited for 6 months complements of the USN fun getting around on the mopeds
The Adix certainly is a beauty! Thanks for sharing the voyage.
Even though this video might be many months ago, it's one of my favorites. The power of the sea, Adix sliding through it gracefully and a wonderful crew and First Officer make it a treasure to watch. Thanks for sharing this.
Damn, that's the life! Adix is gorgeous.
Amazing! Hopefully a rich sailing enthusiast sees your project and money wont be an issue, pray this happens in the next episodes!
I love this project now more than ever. It's going to be spectacular.
Thanks for sharing the voyage. Adix was flying along rather well. Pretty interesting how far the stove pivots, and it was still hitting the stops.
Wow! That boat is beautiful!!
Fascinating interlude of the Adix. I really enjoyed it.
One day I'm going to come across to the US and fly out and see you. Fanstastic video, well done for saving Tally Ho!
Beautiful boat
Now that was nice. Good to see another schooner or whatever. Thanks Leo stay safe
Beautiful Yacht, great video. I enjoy this journey you're on with Tally Ho, look forward to next week.
Leo,,,,all the best to you,,,,thank you for the wonderful sailing video,,,amazing trip for you,,,
I sure miss being underway. Great video and explanations!
Yes well hats off to you guys sailing that monster. Me I'll stick to rum and a comfy chair on the back off a power cruiser, safely moored in a marina.
Ohhhhh, this vid just popped up in my feed, I'm in St. Georges and have been admiring this boat when I come home. She's bloody gorgeous!
Lucky you young one to have the options to crew on such a fine yacht. Do all you can while you are free and not tied down or burden with health issues or age haunts. I just found your site so now I’ll be watching too. Take care
I remember Adix being in Falmouth for a while in early 2000s (2002?) I was on a square rigger there. Fond memories
I thoroughly enjoyed that video. Beautiful watching that boat sail. If you are ever passing through the Boston area and need anything PM me, I would be happy to assist!
Im pretty sure I saw this at the port of Visby, Gotland/Sweden a few years ago. Stunning boat. Stared at her several times. Very, very nice!
wow what a trip Leo sounds like you have fun with the Aussie lads onboard
Now THAT is sailing! Great video, thanks.
VERY strange moment watching this - I had Radio 4 on at the same time in the background, but not really listening to it. Wow super cool video ,it is so exciting for me to see all that
Looking forward to the next Tally Ho instalment.
Reminds me of when I was in the Navy and on the USS Virginia (SSN-774). We commissioned and sailed down to the Bahamas before sailing back up to Kingsbay, GA for degausing the boat and then sailing back up to Groton, CT.
Love your project, good place to do it. Sequim has that rain shadow that makes it a great place.

Hi Leo, I'm watching all your videos from Italy. You are great! it continues this way, I wait anxiously for the next video
That’s a beautiful boat
Happy to watch your adventures while I stay home. Interestingly I got the shipbuilders bug a couple decades ago by watching the film Message in a Bottle and designed and built a model ship about 4 feet long to get it out of my system.
What an amazing adventure you are on. So wonderful of you to share this.
Sailed in through the town Cut and then to St. George’s Bay after customs tied the boat up at the dinghy yacht club and had a great time for 2 1/2 weeks.
Loved this episode, gives us perspective why you are undertaking this rebuild.
What a great look boat!
Beautiful video... What a lovely yacht!
Absolutely wonderful!!! Lucky guy!!
Spectacular footage!
Thank you for sharing this super interesting video of your delivery work.
Adix - what a beauty
Phenomenal -thanks so much for bringing us along!

Gorgeous Schoonerr designed by Art Holgate an old friend of mine.
Wow. Just read up about adix; might be the best yacht I've ever seen. 12kt avg. is amazing. Love your channel
That was a great film , thank you.
Started binge-watching and really like this sailing break. Hoping Tally Ho will look as good as this one! Love the music choices on all of your videos!
Cool , as usual. You must make a dvd of all these episodes and sell it to people like me (75) who love living vicariously now.
Good video, made me reasherch the boat and from what I read one of the nicest the sailing yacth.
Thanks Leo for sharing that trip.
Great footage! Really enjoyed this and all of your videos.
bloody good work there!!!
So cool what you do!
Just found you and am now caught up to current. You are completely out of your mind and I love it! Beautiful boat and inspiring work. Please keep the work and videos coming, just amazing!
Really enjoyed this. Hope you get a go pro or the like at some point you can mount on some railing to film during rough weather.
