And those stupid locking lug nuts are always on rims that nobody would ever steal.

My tires cost more than my rims. THAT'S what I'm locking up.

Whats worse is when the mechanic forgets to put them back. I keep a snap on lug nut remover handy. With the right technique they'll take the key nuts off.

Nothing makes a mechanic angrier than finding wheel locks on vehicles, especially beater cars. Wasting time checking glove box, center console, then trunk for an elusive key, and then a call to the customer, (if they even answer), just to pull wheels for State Inspection or rotation. I would be happy to see McGard wheel lock company go bankrupt someday. Here's a story.... Ransacked customers car one day looking for key - no luck. Had another mechanic try his luck - can't find it. Call the guy up, he says "oh yeah, i have it here at my home garage!" Can't make this shit up. What good is it if not IN his car?

Tire shops that keep the keys and locks from customers and telling your customers they are missing a lug nut on each wheel .

The best is multiple locks on a single fucking wheel- Yet, get that fuckin set of tires done, customer waiting.

    Me: Where wheel lock?
    Advisor: Go find
Still me: No find. Look 3x
    Still advisor: [call customer]
    Me again: [waiting]
Advisor again: Customer say no have. Can you remove?
Me in defiance: Will fuck up wheels. 2 grand each
Advisor, fighting laughter: Customer say he come look
Still me again: [on to the next job]
If I opened a shop, I would make every customer read a document out loud and then sign it:
These items in the pictures are called wheel locks and wheel lock keys. If you don't put it in the advisor's hand, you are authoring us to remove it by any means necessary, up to and including destroying the wheels at your expense, plus an aggravation fee of 75% parts and labor.
And every time I hired a new mechanic, I would make him read a document out loud and sign it:
I understand that if I need to remove a wheel and the lock key is not placed in my hands with the ignition key, I will destroy the wheels in the process of removing the wheel lock at the customer's expense. I will also receive an aggravation fee of 70% parts and labor.
So glad I switched to big rig tractor trailer repair
The customers are exponentially stupider, but the vehicles are much easier to work on for better money by the hour instead of flat rate

Can't tell you how many mechanics didn't put my key back. Then when I figured that out, they couldn't find it and I have to order a new one. On my dime. BTW, my BMW has a holder for it in the trunk, where I tell the Mechanic it is and where they forget to put it back.

  • @heathhill7802

There isn't a locking nut out in the market that a key can't be had for on eBay and most of them the keys will be at napa or parts store for 10 buck
I found them lugs useless 20 years ago and if a customer has them on ,it's another hour labor on top of the bill .

I agree completely. I usually use my what I call inner twirly socket to twist on the tapered dome and takes merely seconds to get those things off. Theres exterior damage but at least they're off.

I don't know about where you are at but nowadays they steel the whole car forget about just the wheels. You should do one of the survey things that you see some channels doing and ask how many people have had the wheels on their car stolen. I'm a heavy truck guy but I know exactly what you are talking about. I bought me an air chisel bit that won't turn in the chuck and it's done the job a few times. I get what you are saying about damaging the wheels. Anyway happy new year and I see you are rocking 2 cans of Fluid Film. Sponsorship 🤷‍♂️. 👍🇨🇦🔧😜

Ugh those are the most useless thing people give them money for.. why not more useful idea than those ?
Im just an average guy but why not add tracking chips into the wheel TPMS sensors? 😮 Yes mabye thats too usefull 😅
Or why don't they use immobilizer technology to work with WEARING the seat belt before the vehicle will start or can be driven?
Or, OR the current TPMS could immobilize the vehicle with low tire pressure so it CAN'T be driven until the tire is inflated or repaired?? 😮😮
Enough ranting.. I will shut up now 😊
