Hi Jay, if you have diabetes an ideal HbA1c result is 48mmol/mol (6.5%) or below. However everyone is different, and someone's target HbA1c may differ from someone else's depending on wat their healthcare team recommend. Here is the link to more guidance on HbA1cs: www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/hba1c If you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 0345 123 2399 Mon- Fri 9am-6pm, or email us at helpline@diabetes.org.uk

Hello Yon, thank you for your comment. Immunotherapy research might not be for everyone; the trials may not be suitable for those under the age of 18. Hi there. Thank you for your comment. Before new immunotherapies can reach people with type 1 diabetes, scientists need to find out if they are safe and effective. Nice video Colin thank you for all the information! Insulin is def not a cure it keeps us alive but def not the best thing at all to be taking as it's a dangerous drug to take daily and this research is very much needed for us to come away from injections. I'm a T1 for over 50 years and if I can be of any research please let me know! Also nice to hear we need carbs as my research I also believe we need carb and it's frightening to see it being push onto us a full keto diet yes it can have its good point but I also believe we need carbs too!
Low carb and paleo diet reduced my Hba1C dramatically, though it wasn't long term sustainable, and i still had to have sugar due to hypos, but that was also largely due to my bad insulin dosing control and also exercise. Yes, carbs are essential, both for fuel and nutrition, but restriction from the over rating of carbs most people do, is definitely a good thing.
I got diagnoses recently at the age of 42, so much for almost impossible or "very very unlikely" at even age 18, I guess there were better odds that I could have won the lottery every week for a year judging by that logic. Nobody knows why it happens for sure, there are conflicting theories whether it is the immune system that is gone rogue or the pancreas has changed its betta cells in a way that they are "perceived" as foreign by the immune system which is just doing its job. Also, I wish people would be clear, as you are, on whether they are looking at preventing T1D or Curing it as you give false hope to people who are already suffering badly because of this insidious and wretched disease.
I really feel for you, right there with you..aged 39 here and just received diagnosis as well, it’s completely wrecked me emotionally and mentally. Just out of curiosity had you had covid ? I’m reading a few anecdotal studies which point towards it attacking beta cells ?
I think what he was saying is if you have the blood test to screen for the pre type 1 indicators and are clear up to the age of 18, then you'll be unlikely to develop it at all. Whereas if the technology had been available when you were 18, a screening test would probably have shown you to be at risk of developing it. I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. I hope you might be able to find some extra support with it.
