We caught up with Prof. Karl Friston and asked him how he was mentally preparing for our upcoming special edition show with Steven Wolfram. This conversation will be a meeting of minds the likes of which we don't get to see very often. Friston and Wolfram are titans of science, physics and cognition.
Prof. Friston is one of the most highly cited living scientists and in 2016 was ranked No. 1 by Semantic Scholar in the list of top 10 most influential neuroscientists. He is the Chief Scientist at VERSES www.verses.ai/press-2/vers-ka...

Are you all excited about the upcoming Friston + Wolfram show?! Let us know in the comments!
Addendum: Smoking is bad for you! Don't do it! - Наука та технологія
You guys are doing hell of a unique job curating the intellectual currents of our time, helping guide the uninitiated and initiated alike. Unique because of your own knowledge of the issues, which joined to the humility of the truth seekers becomes very impressive. Much respect and much thanks.
Fully agree!
Didn’t know Karl was chill like that
Seeing Karl in this natural state is so lovely
You guys are doing an amazing job introducing the free energy principle and many concepts to a completely new audience - making these ideas more accessible. Thank you so much 🙏
looking forward to it!
This will be very interesting! Really looking forward to this discussion.
Karl is the best.
I think you shouldn't be too worried about the conversation, both Steven and Karl seem to be genuinly curious about other peoples ideas. So I suspect the best thing to do will be to moderate as little as possible and just let them do the talking. Also you guys are amazing, can't wait for the podcast
I absolutely can't wait for this conversation!
What a video is coming in two week 🎉🎉🎉🎉 thanks for this work 😊
so EXCITED for this!
"I do not pretend to understand the moral universe; the arc is a long one. ... But from what I see I am sure it bends towards justice."
Theodore Parker,1853.
I'd like to echo the sentiments below. Keith you're gonna do great! The goal of steering these two intellects through a path that yields an enlightened journey for us all (the very definition of Ampère's 'Cybernetique') is the perfect way to go about this episode. Your comments are always the those that have me thinking "Aha, what are they gonna do with that?" and that's just what they should be. I am hoping to get a better grip on Friston-isms and with Wolfram's explanatory ability a your navigationally sound intuitions this is shaping up to be a win/win win.
No pressure. 😁
Cannot wait to watch this exchange. Should be epic
can't wait :)
How do we get an !!!ALERT!!! for this event? What date and time will it occur? I like to smoke Lucky Strikes or Camel Straights.
Smoking decreases free energy. Confirmed. Start today,
oh this is going to be great.
Gotta say that thumbnail is 10/10 xD Friston is a champ
I can understand Wolfram more than Friston overall, though occasionally Friston has some clear sentences.
Maybe I understand Wolfram more is the fact that he has done actual experiments and he uses more common words.
I am not aware of experiments done by Friston, but I am just learning from his talks, though his usage of atypical words takes more time than most people are willing to give to decompress and comprehend and this reduces common understanding and makes it harder to analyze.
I hope if either say an uncommon word that you press them to define the word as some people hide behind words (as a wall of words).
I think the two can reconcile by discussing how a sperm and egg turn into a brain as this may be key to defining a "Lego" of intelligence. It would be interesting if they can discuss details on the 302 neuron worm that MIT VISTA used to model off of to simulate and make a self driving car with 19 neuron like modules. I suspect Tesla recently utilized their work with Full Self Driving FSD release 12.
Anyway, I look forward to the talk, love your channel. We live in fascinating times!
Empirical testing is where concepts are verified, just as the Manhattan Project verified that the speed of light squared times the mass is the energy released.
@@Ena-ck3kb Bloody good point mate.
Keith you're gonna be great, but I can imagine the nerves given the company.
Just think, all you needed to add to them is Frank Wilcek, Noam Chomsky, Melanie Mitchell and Yann Lecunn in the peanut gallery to completely short circuit any human on earth lol
with a prop and how
Smoking does not protect against Covid. Nature have a good review of how this misconception occurred. Another reminder that even extreme competence in one area does not transfer to others.
Indeed!
The concept of jokes is foreign to you.
@@therealOXOC I’m guessing British humor is something he never got to make sense of, As an American I don’t blame him😂
I don't think Friston was joking
Cosmological Framing of the Universal Mind
•( c F(mu ) C ( UM)f c )•
I was using speech-to-text, and instead of saying 'illusion,' it typed 'illustration.' At first, I corrected the error, but then, in this imperfect translation, emerged new, unexpected creative potential. What if... What if in all possibly accessible worlds I had intended to use this word?
'Separation, A Convenient Illustration'
The phrase encapsulates the idea that the way we perceive separations is much like an artist's representation of a landscape. It captures the essence but simplifies and distorts the true depth of the interconnectedness that lies beneath. 🧅
Thank you.
