  • "Like Lions Do" -- Right Away, Great Captain (with special thanks to Michal IÄ o)
"He no longer dreamed of storms, nor of women, nor of great occurrences, nor of great fish, nor fights, nor contests of strength, nor of his wife...he only dreams of places now and of the lions on the beach". --Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway) There are no lions in this film, the "preludy". The lions are what come after it all, after the clip ends.

So when I met my husband, he was on stage singing this with tears running down his cheeks. His band was playing at a small venue in Atlanta. He had just had his heart broken by an Emily who had been giving herself to another. She had called to tell him she was leaving again on his way there.
To this day he is the only one I've seen match the emotion of this song. He was so hurt that day but he poured it into this music. I felt the gravity of it and it woke me up. I looked around the room and almost everyone had stopped to listen. His earnestness and willingness to share his hurt with another made me love him. It was humility and honesty that I saw and it moved mountains.

I've seen videos of him perform a few of the ragc albums live but can't find a video of him performing this song live and I wish I could cus it is my favorite of all three albums, the insight in his music is so amazing he puts so much of him self into It and for this project his skills as a writer really show through. to Andy hull , king of the american indie folk !

Yes! And I love what he did for Swiss Army Man!
Such simple lines but they mean so much. He puts so much emotion into his music that the depth is felt without complication

I've been throwing up over this ledge for the last 7 weeks
and you've been throwing history to hell
I've been writing almost everyday that I've been gone
do you still remember how my beard once felt
I've been eating seaweed from a whale named Emily
she could swallow me, or help me swallow pride
We wade under the tow like diamonds
We wade under the tow like diamonds
    Like diamonds do
I've been watching you look at a locket from your mother
or perhaps it's from a girl you don't speak of
Do you miss her when she's sleeping
Do you find it hard to eat when
everything reminds you of her steely ghost
So to captains of my captain, how can I become a captain
Get the strength I need to pull this one around
I will wait under the tow like lions
I will wait under the tow like lions
    Like lions do
Oh my God, what am I doing here?
Now I walk this ship of golden brown
You sit back covered up in sounds
That don't come from my lips
You know they don't come from my lips
And you can try to break the silence
While you're making love with violence
To my flesh and blood, a traitor
Oh my flesh and blood are traitors to you now.
Oh my God, what am I doing here?
Oh my flesh and blood are traitors to you now.
Oh my God, what am I doing here?
    What am I doing here?

Excellent song obviously. Also great video, I especially like how the action is saved til the climax of the song, I had to rewatch when I saw the movement, which is brilliantly pulled together. Good work man.

I think he did once... but he cast it into a fire and has been eating himself up over it ever since. (He channels that pain into making the rest of his songs heartwrenching and beautiful.)
