    I have an 03 almost identical to yours, it has been one of the best vehicles I've ever owned, love your content, looking forward to how this all works out for you, rebuilding automatic transmissions requires patience and paying attention to details, doing your research to gather information on a specific models weak points and known issues is also extremely important and I have no doubt you have all those bases covered, glad your keeping your 10th Gen alive and well as that is one of the best Trucks Ford has ever produced.

      Thanks for your comment, this truck has become part of my family... actually, it's my dog's truck. He loves the back seat area I set up for him. ;) I think I've found the weak spot, the forward direct drum, and as you saw, I bought a new one. My next challenge is whether or not to buy a very high end torque converter that will increase torque multiplication from 1.95 to 2.5, a huge difference with a very high price tag.

      Hi Mark, so far the rebuild is going well. I have all the parts in hand and I already had the other transmission mostly disassembled. Didn't you have your transmission rebuilt? What was the problem?

    I rebuilt my 04 F150 4R75W.The reason for the rebuild I lost reverse .Found a broken reverse band . Total rebuild with sure cure kit.Trans still works great.Loss of overdrive can be a broken overdrive servo snap ring. Easy to replace.You just need to pull valve body.

      I hear you, but I’m also missing third gear, so I’m sure it’s the forward direct drum. It’s actually fun going through this thing

      Thanks for your comment. I know I was on borrowed time with this tranny. When I flushed it at 165K miles, I started having TC Shudder. I resolved that by rebuilding the valve body and replacing other fluid management components that really tightened up the shifts. 95k miles later, I'm happy with the result. Sadly, the previous owner didn't take care of this truck like I do.

    Another thought: a larger transmission cooler wouldn't hurt at all considering you live in a hot climate. Transmissions hate heat.

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  4 місяці тому +1

      that is an option, but I can't find a direct replacement, so I've decided I will install a fan on the stock unit to cool down more effectively.

      If you’re referring to the F250 heavy duty, they’re not a direct bolt-on, but I’ve never checked the F250 light duty

      @@DrivingIntelligence I bought a new 2000 F150 XLT supercab 5.4 4x4 and Ford had advertised that with the tow package it had enhanced cooling which it didn't. Enough owners noticed and complained that Ford offered the owners the choice of a larger radiator from the 7700 truck, $100 cash, or $500 credit on a trade-in. I chose the larger radiator. I don't know if the heavy duty truck had a larger trans cooler but the larger radiator would cool the trans and engine better I'm sure.

    Good luck with the tranny rebuild! Don't you have to remove the torsion bars to get the transmission out? That looks to be a pain. I had a moment of insanity last June and sold my 2002 F150 Supercab Lariat FX4 170K miles and bought a new Nissan Titan Pro4X. But I love the new Titan and so does the wife due to its comfort and new tech stuff. I'm 80 now and working on vehicles just ain't as much fun as it used to be! Ha! Lots of good memories with the old F150 though. I drove that truck all over the country for work and vacation.

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  4 місяці тому +2

      That's a great question, I hope not! That will add a whole new level of complexity. I understand you regarding comfort. That's why I've done a ton of things to quiet this truck and make it more comfortable.

    Ik from experience the throttle position sensor can go bad without setting a DTC and cause the transmission to stay in second gear. May want to give that a try

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  4 місяці тому +2

      Excellent comment, my problem is it neutrals out of second with no 3rd or 4th… it’s time for a new tranny anyway since I take this on long trips.
