    Good video thanks. I put a rope with a weight tied to the end of the brush and drop it down the flue in case it gets stuck. Which happened once and was a good lesson learned.

      In the video l remove the cap for the wood insert liner and put the brush down. The other cap you see is for a gas furnace chimney that we use as a secondary heat source. Thanks for watching!

    Perfect. Thank you very much. I've always had woodstoves to clean but this is the first time that I've had a fireplace insert with those reburn tubes and I didn't know how to do that.

    I figured it was pretty straight forward, so thought I'd check YT. And funny enough, I get a fellow Van. Islander! LOL! Thanks for the concise video.
    ???: Any experience with those ones that are drill mounted and have what looks like weed whacker lines/brushes on them?
    Thanks!

    You might put a small bucket inside before you brush it and it will catch most of it.

    so once down and once back up is good enough? Have you ever cleaned up what dropped down after the first time and just ran the brush thru again to see what dropped down for a second run with the brush?

    • @JENSENDIY
      @JENSENDIY  10 місяців тому

      I have found once is enough if the brush is the correct size with the proper resistance. I did do it twice the very first time I cleaned it with just a small amount being removed the second time.

      It's a Drolet Escape 1400 and works very well. The only complaint is that the fan is loud when on high speed which is needed in the colder months to properly circulate the heat. Thanks for watching!

    My sweep hard a hard time reversing directions. Scared the crap out of me, my roof is pretty steep and there's no good way to get solid footing to pull up really hard. Also the chimneys on the edge

      Safety first! that's the most important thing. If you don't feel comfortable you should hire a pro or get a safety harness next time. Thanks for Watching!

    • @50kT
      @50kT Рік тому

      @@JENSENDIY yep. Also might trim the sweep a bit so that it can reverse directions with less force require. Also really want a harness and or a pitch hopper to step on for more stability

      @@50kT maybe check your liner diameter. I thought mone was 6 inch but it was really only 5.5 inch, so the commonly available poly brush which is 6 inch would have been a tough push. I ended up using the rotary whip style because I was afraid I would get even a properly sized 5.5 in brush stuck.

    • @50kT
      @50kT Рік тому +1

      @@Redneck_Ed Thanks I ended up using a poly brush and I shaved off about a half inch from all the poly brush tips and it went in smoothly and got the job done real quick! Just used a wire cutter to trim them down a bit.

    What size brush did you use for what size chimney liner?.....others have suggested a smaller size brush than the chimney size liner to prevent a stuck situation...Jon.

    • @JENSENDIY
      @JENSENDIY  2 роки тому

      6 inch brush for 6 inch liner. If you go smaller it will not get nearly as much creosote out. The only reason I would use a smaller brush is if you happen to have a sharp bend in the liner. Hope this helps!
