    Toyotas are so amazing! Just constantly replace parts like steering rack every few years and it never dies. So amazing.

    Peter, thanks for all your videos. I like your diagnostic videos. Your videos help us pin point issues with our Toyota’s also.

    Rack and pinion rebuild parts available from Toyota and can be rebuilt rather than buying rebuilt one with Chinese parts. The low hanging fruit is not always the sweetest Peter.

      Agreed. Or buy a complete rack unit from Toyota. Only a bit more than buying the rebuild kit, inner tie rods, boots, clamps, etc. You more than save with the reduced labor.

    Peter. Can you make a video of the failed seals inside the steering rack being replaced? Thanks! Love the content.

      With me cardone has been a hit or miss. Brake boosters seem to be 60% good 40% bad.

    My 2017 2wd Tacoma started to get a whine in the power steering. Took it in to the dealer and they replaced the rack and pinion. IT FAILED DURING THEIR TEST DRIVE. They pulled it all out and put in another. IT FAILED DURING THE TEST DRIVE. They told me that they replaced it with new OEM parts, which passed all the tests. That was the first time they told me they were using remanufactured parts. 2 remanufactured rack and pinion, 2 immediate failures. Don't trust Toyota on this one!!

    If only to periodically spray your rubber components underneath with 303 Protectant to keep them from drying out and cracking . Of course to remove any dirt , etc and then spray them .

      Where did you get yours from and did you install it yourself?

    I have 2015 prerunner. It has this humming vibration in the floorboards/gas pedal and they replaced one front wheel bearing. But I still have this hum when going 25mph and up. I have an extended warranty they say it's the tires noise being 265 but I'm not convinced. Any ideas and it's 2wd so no ecgs bushing needed.

    Hey great video man. I think i'm having similar issue on my 2010 mercedes e550 coupe. I see some fluid around the left boot and I recently installed a new powersteering pump but it still makes a lot of noise. The strange thing is that when I try to bleed it and I turn the wheel left I hear a squish/swish noise like fluid is moving around. This is the boot I had seen some fluid around the boot. Do I need a whole new rack and pinion?

    Peter.... Most aftermarket "stuff" has a max warranty of about 1 year. Most junk is only 90 days.

    I have a dumb question for the mechanics: Is it possible some reman units need to run with fluid that's not the same type as OEM fluid?

    • @LAactor
      @LAactor 2 роки тому +1

      But why and what for? It would cost more to re-engineer a design with new seals that would withstand the new kind of fluid plus you would have to extensively test a vehicle with that spec to be sure the new fluid wouldn't cause more problems in the pump and lines. The high pressure line likes to leak at high mileage and just a pinhole is a large puddle in the driveway. That would not be a reman but a whole new design altogether. Reman just takes old bad parts and repairs what's wrong and puts them back to working order.

    Probably a garbage Chinese replacement reman rack. They use cheap parts and usually fail in short order.
