Born and raised Oregonian here. The fact that the couple in this are stranded somewhere near Eugene en route to Portland, yet will be "passing through Baker City" between the two shows that someone didn't do their geography homework.

In this film a grown man while limping and holding a gun, walks through the forest to find his gf while there's a running car next to him after the killer walked off. Then he holds a gun to the killers head and manages to get knocked off after teasing to shoot her for a full 2 min😂

Dude yes!!! I kept yelling “shoot her!!!” And he never did. They sure as hell aren’t hesitant about killing him, why should he. Also, in that scene, he spews some stupid nonsense about “they say your first kill is the hardest…”

Completely agree with everything you said! It was basically false advertising in the trailer “witness how the strangers became the strangers” because we got nothing new from the movie…definitely didn’t explain how they became to be. Complete trash. Soooo bad! Also, how is this a prequel to the first Strangers when they have iPhones and FaceTime in this? Those things weren’t invented yet.
The disappointment that hit me when I realized what I was watching was EPIC! I hated what they did. There was nothing super helpful that made me feel like there was any redeeming quality to this film. Straight to streaming! Great review, Chris. Keep up the good work, sir. 🤘🏿😁👍🏿 #GeeSawThat

i feel you. the 2008 original was a 10/10 for me, one of the best movies i’ve ever watched, scared the shit out of me when i first watched it.
but this movie was just not it. it was only like an hour and a half yet felt like 3 hours. characters make dumb decisions and we don’t even get a backstory on the strangers.
it’s quite literally a remake of the first one, just worse in every possible way

It's a typical cliche 2000's horror movie, like what do you expect it to be like. The plot and jump scares were enjoyable, you should reconsider.

I trust this dude's opinion so much, and I am too disappointed that this wasn't good enough for my boy, Chris. At least I know I won't be watching this in theaters, damn I was hoping for this to be a decent entry.

Well, I'll be suprised if the other 2 parts make it to theaters. Looks like Lionsgates deal with Netflix will come in handy, all 3 parts will probably be on Netflix by halloween.

The most surprising part to flop was the couple. In the OG the couple was at odds and it made the ending of them holding hands super impactful.
With this new one I thought them being clearly in love would make me worried/ sad for the couple the whole film. But it completely fell flat.
And agreed! Tarots kills were more rated R material than this film.
I personally liked it. It had nods to the first movie, like Halloween 2018. I loved that Pin Up girl got more screen time and I liked how even stalkerish they all were.
Saw all the bad reviews and had a glimmer of hope that it somehow might still be decent since I really wanted to watch it in theaters. Your review squashed that hope and I'm skipping it now.

I think the worst thing they can do for this franchise is give the killers a motive. And although my girlfriend and I didnt HATE this movie, why do i have this sneaking suspicion they will explain the origin of the killers and “Tamra” will be their little brother/son or something that was killed by some white collar new york drunk driver or something and now they’re just out on vengeance for anybody from the east coast or big cities

Watched it last night, it was okay, not the best but definitely better just streaming it😭 shoulda waited for the review but it’s okay still a fun experience
The part that took me out the movie was the shower scene. The killer just appears and disappears as if he was a ghost. He literally disappeared out of thin air. No way of seeing him coming down the hall or exiting. It’s so unrealistic and took me out the movie. And the characters are so stupid like funny bad.
Jump scares used to keep audience dialed in = LAZY
personally I had a great time watching this movie yeah it's a lot of the same from the first movie but it was still fun one critique is all of the solo shots where we see where the strangers are
Fun fact: this was directed by Renny Hardlin who have made Die Hard 2 and The Long Kiss Goodnight! One of the best movies ever made! What happened?!

The Strangers didn’t really need a remake or prequel to begin with. The whole plot twist of the movie was already revealed in the original film that wasn’t released too long ago. It was a losing battle.
Studio interence?? No clue why it turned out this bad, & can't imagine the other two if they're already shot.💀
The guy had a very respectable track record. He also did Stallone’s Cliffhanger and Deep Blue Sea, but his career fell off a cliff after that failed pirate movie Cutthroat Island in 95.
He worked with a bad screen writer.
As a HUGE movie lover/fanatic especially horror movies and aspiring actress I’m so excited to watch this movie. I hope I enjoy it more than you did. This was another good movie review. ❤❤❤❤
I’m going tonight. I’ll be open minded. The script is 284 pages long. Maybe it will pick up in the next installments. It’s suppose to take place over a couple of days.

I never regretted spending my money on a movie because I somehow always enjoy movies whether the script is good or not however this film had me regretting the money I spent. I felt it was boring, predictable, and it didn’t feel like it belongs with the rest of the films

What I meant to say is he only reviews a movie only if a 12 year old can understand it, meaning you will never see him reviewing a small independent movie. And whenever it becomes popular to hate on a specific movie he will join the bandwagon just so he won't be left out. He will even lie about the movie hoping to earn points from that crowd. For example when Jigsaw came out, he not only hate on the movie just because at the time it was popular to hate it but also lied saying the movie is a huge box office failure. The budget is 10 million and made more then 100 million, that counts as a box office success and the REASON why they made another Saw movie. And when he acts like this he most likely not being honest with himself. Here is a good example. He says he likes the 2008 movie Superhero Movie. The reason why he is able to like it because he doesn't have a youtube channel in 2008. I remember in 2008 it was really popular to hate on Superhero Movie, I felt like I was the only person who likes it when I saw it in 2008. If he has a youtube channel in 2008 he would have joined the bandwagon hate on Superhero Movie. The reason why he didn't join in on the hate because in 2008 he didn't have a youtube channel. He is such a follower. It's not that mindblowing to me that he didn't review I Saw the TV Glow.

the scariest thing about The Strangers is how ordinary everything is and the lack of sound is a big part of that, just like A Quiet Place where the soundless scenes are so scary, removing that aspect was a huge mistake 🙄
im still gonna hold my excitement until all 3 are released bc according to madelaine petsch all 3 movies take place over the span of 5 days and the next 2 movies are suppose to be something completely different from what we've seen before and she even said how chapter 1 is a literal retelling of the 2008 movie and chapters 2 and 3 are where it takes a completely new turn. so im gonna hold onto hope for these movies bc i loved the first 2.
They need to stop saying trilogy until fans see the first one and put the effort into a great first movie

I was thinking Shelly too. Scarecrow might be the cook with the beard and long hair. The other waitress that suggested the salad without the bacon could be Dollface but I'm not as sure about them as I am about Shelly being Pin-Up Girl.

The whole idea of these Strangers films only works if the protagonists are completely inept when it comes to self defense, and completely unarmed. If this film was set in the flyover states, it would last about ten minutes. Then the cops would come haul the bodies off.
Last scene: "Well, I didn't really plan on shooting anyone in the face on this romantic weekend, but here we are!"
Well, It was Renny Harlin directing. His last good movie was 25 years ago. Seriously.

I hate that I am the type of person who has to see a film opening night/weekend before I look at reviews. Very disappointed in this film and makes me question if seeing the next 2 are worth the money.
It was okay, I agree about them acting dumb, when the boyfriend killed the owner it wasn't anytime to spare, grab the keys let's go. Let's pretend that didn't work when the boyfriend climb out the car after getting unstuck none of the strangers were around. Why didn't he take their truck ??? The car was still running and everything. When the boyfriend found one of the strangers why didn't he just shoot her. Like he did so much dumb shit in the movie it's ridiculous

I actually liked this...I'm fine with it because I liked the other characters we saw in the beginning and the set-up for this couple. I feel like the Strangers has this ingredient of horror quality and we got it, for the most part. They tried, lol. First one classic, second one was fun and interesting location choice and this one is okay and want to see more (Chapter 2 and 3)
This is spoiler-y for the movies, watch the first 2 they’re pretty good.
My problem with this is that it wasn’t a prequel, and that a lot of scenes were copy and pasted into this one. The strangers died in the second movie, that movie takes place in like the late 2000s or 2018, this movie this supposed to act as a prequel, but it takes place in the modern day. The writing team could have done so much better recreating the early 2000s and making the timeline make sense, thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
I swear, if the second movie takes place in a trailer park, I’m gonna lose it 😅

I love how people complain about how some parts of the movies he could have just left or killed them when i never hear people complain about the black phone. that kid could have been free and the movie be an entire hour shorter
Hear Me Out:
This movie is more than meets the eye. Think about the lines being said. The same things going on from the original.
Theory: Brian is from that town. Has a past his girlfriend doesn’t know about. And I believe chapter 2 will keep showing shots that were omitted from chapter 1. That’s how we find out the strangers became the strangers. Maybe it’s a reach but I don’t think so. I think we just want the pay off in the same movie but there is definitely more into the plot than we think.
I agree with most of this, but the only thing I think this movie had going for it were its lead characters. Not that we have much to work with mind you, but I think they were pretty easily the best leads of this series thus far.
Honestly had no expectation of a new story because The Strangers is a very simple and straight forward premise of home invasions

Horrors having a rough year man
I.... really wanted to like this movie. But literally 3 of the characters die in -the exact same way- the three characters die in the first movie. The only positive is, sound design aside, if you're watching the corners of the screen you can see they captured the creepiness of The Strangers.
I love 3C but idc what he says this was a good movie. No, not the best of the franchise and I don’t think nothing will ever beat the original, however, for a nice fun good night at the theaters I recommend to check it out. 7.5/10 fr
Totally agree Cris. I had very low expectations, but my grandma wanted to see it and I thought, why not. There are literally no redeeming factors here, I was just waiting the whole time. The dialogue, kills, and the acting were all just terrible. They somehow took everything from the first, made it mild, left out anything that gave the couple chemistry or any dynamic, and way worse. Definitely my least favorite movie of the year. I was never a fan of the original, but this makes it look like The Godfather.
3C is the only channel I’ll watch wether I know or care about what he’s talking about or not😭

You mention that you’ve seen how the director handles jumpscares and kills and I agree, in this film they suck. But I still remember that one chair kill from Prison and have fond memories of Deep Blue Sea as one of the very few fun campy shark films. What happened Renny?

...i gotta re-watch the 2008 version now to see if it'll change my opinion of this new one. But that's 1 thing I do remember from the Original, they MASTERED the Suspense and Dread really well. I think this new version was alright.. but maybe it's cuz i haven't seen the original in over 15 years
