Admire your continued willingness to tour on the MT10. I went to Scottish borders last week on mine. Got a bit fed up fuel gauge watching and planning routes for petrol stations!!
Range and consumption are definitely it's biggest downsides. Trouble is, I love riding it so much. Comfortable, exciting and reliable. Luckily, Carol enjoys planning our tour routes and makes it easier by having petrol stations already planned. Some cheeky so and so at our local bike night suggested I should turn one of those expanding panniers into a secondary fuel tank 🤔 😬 😉
Deffo room for a litre of 98 octane on a Scottish run.. Have you looked for a suitable jerry can.... The extra late evening mileage instead of leaving a route because slow traffic has buggered up the fuel stop route
@tartanblackcountrytourist I have 2x2L bottles which I bought for the first Scotland tour on the MT10. I didn't use them in the end. Very worst case, Carol can fetch 5L of fuel in her top box. Her 17L tank will take her about 190 miles!
Really good bits of kit Rich, that look very good. Nowadays I always want to know where stuff is manufactured. I use a 52 litre Givi Top box, which I first had on one of my Blackbirds, but after I sold that bike and bought my MT10, I wasn't too impressed by Yamaha's MT10 Touring type of Bags. So I use the box and a big roll bag on the pillion seat, if I'm going away for more than just a few days. 30 plus years ago, I had 3 Krauser boxes and it took a little while to get used to the width, whilst filtering in traffic. Is Carol going to get the same on her bike, so she can do the shopping (tongue very firmly in cheek)? The best part about this video, for me, is it gives confirmation, that you will be keeping your MT10, hurray!
Yep definitely keeping the MT10. Think the Shad company is Spanish but don't know where they manufacture. They don't do those bags for Carol's bike, so she's just keeping with the SW Motech soft panniers that velcro over the pillion seat.

Yep. Mainly security. The SW Motech stuff worked fine but were just fabric and a zip. They also got plastered in road filth in the wet. It wasn't great carrying those into your hotel at the end of a long ride. Now, we will just pack the inner bags and leave the hard luggage on the bike.
@@RadarsRadicalRides I've been using SW Motech Blaze panniers on the MT10 for the last 7 years. They work great but go on tour in the rain and those bags get covered in sludge and dirt. @@Banditmanuk I hope to read your impressions about the suitcases once you finish the tour of the Pyrenees.. I forgot to ask you, can two people ride on the same motorcycle with the suitcases installed? Would the passenger be comfortable? Thank you.
@ih.u7991 The answer is yes. The rider and pillion would need to be lighter than myself and my wife (she rides her own bike) or you would probably exceed the max carrying capacity of the motorcycle. The MT10 isn't very comfortable for pillions and many owner swop the rear footpegs for ones off a Tracer 900
Not too long before we head off to the Pyrenees to try them. Riding all the way after the Santander ferry and moving on every day, so hoping they will make life easier and more secure 🙏
Hi sure looks a nice set up, you cant beat hard luggage for a tour. My wife wont use the inner bags as she says without them I can cram more clothes in. So we have to take the panniers off when we check in to where ever, having said that having the panniers off means its easier for her to get off and on the bike. A problem you dont have as Carol got her own bike. But it does look a bit of impressive kit.
Carol will still take her SW Motech bags on her Street Triple so we won't need every bit of space all the time. One thing I have found is climbing on my bike with the panniers fitted is slightly more difficult with my slightly dodgy knees and hip.
@@Banditmanuk Right there with you on that one I feel your pain, my hip OK but getting old knee syndrome now. Just get some T cut to polish out the boot marks.
So I called the company today here in the United States to ask if they would fit onto my 2024 mt-10 and they claim it will but it was not very convincing. Does anyone have a little more insight on this and maybe able to give me a more convincing answer
If the frames are anything like Givi I’d start with a good dose of acf50 before washing the bike never mind touring. Looks good but I’d support other comments about Yamaha subframe loading & homol that’s why I got rid of the tracer mkii as it was panniers or boxes but not both, thankfully sorted on the newer GT but stupid cost saving for what was sold as sport tourer originally. Hopefully many more miles of smiles on the mt10 👍
Yep care is needed in loading/not overloading. Time will tell how it stands up. I guess it make another video if it all goes wrong. The bike never has a pillion so hopefully we won't go past what it will take. Appreciate hearing your thoughts. Cheers

Thanks for watching the vid and best wishes from Richard and carol
Ok, thnx for the trouble of measuring it.
Good morning, can you travel with expanded suitcases? or do they have to go without expanding? thank you
They are designed to travel in both wide or narrow modes. They are waterproof both wide or narrow and the inner bags (not yet received) can work both wide or narrow depending on your needs.
@@Banditmanuk So do you think they are good motorcycle cases?
@ih.u7991 I would say it's too early to say. They look good. We're doing a big tour of the Pyrenees soon, so hopefully, I'll do an update video later in the year
@@Banditmanuk I hope to read your impressions about the suitcases once you finish the tour of the Pyrenees..
They look great, look forward to hearing your thoughts once you have used them in anger
Not too long before we head off to the Pyrenees to try them. Riding all the way after the Santander ferry and moving on every day, so hoping they will make life easier and more secure 🙏
Shad is made in Spain, Barcelona
I know. They look great quality, we were touring Spain on the bike only a couple of weeks ago.
what year is your mt10?
It's a 2016. One of the first.
You could try emailing our contact at Shad UK. He seemed knowledgeable.
hello@shad.co.uk I suspect it will fit, but best be sure. Thanks for watching
Cheers
Set of hand guards and a screen and it'll be a proper adventure bike 😂
Wouldn't mind the hand guards, but I draw the line at a screen!
Watch out for narrow gaps, the back,of the bike, should NEVER be wider, than the front,of the bike,or you might be like me,had to have my pelvis removed, rebuilt n'so on,a total, terrible thing, that you do NOT want ; Yamaha should make a MT10 Tracer, renamed The Hooligan,ha ha i'm on super scooters now, pretty good,be careful out there
O no that sounded like a nightmare for you. I completely get what you say. Just completing a Pyrenees trip with the set up. Used them in the closed position, glad I did as we did a massive amount of filtering on the way to the ferry.
Love my MT10 just wish the range was better.
Thanks for watching and hope things are ok for you now
