- Today I'm sharing a Number Cake Decorating Tutorial with Whipping Cream! This was a huge trend back in 2018 and you would see these kind of cakes everywhere. I still find them super cute and finally had a chance to make one! They certainly are time consuming since you have so many different decorations on top but I guess that's what makes them so pretty!

Either one would work but I think I used the Ambiante one.

Amazing tutorial, thank you very much! Can you please tell me what size recipe would be required to bake the two ‘slabs’ of cake so a double layer cake can be cut out? No of cups of flour, no of eggs, so I can choose the right recipe. Does the cake cut & decorate better if it has been frozen before hand? Thanks in anticipation for your kind assistance. Mandy.
This cake was made from 2 boxes of cake mix or any of my cake recipes on my website doubled.
Yes, freezing the cake makes the cutting part easier and cleaner. For decorating you don't need it frozen.

I actually just had the coppler inserted in the bag with no nozzle. You can also just cut a hole in a bag for the same results.

Thanks for posting this video, I am a self taught hobby baker , I have a question about cream , can I use fresh dairy whipping cream in place of non dairy whipping cream , it’s difficult to get non dairy whipping cream in grocery stores where I live
Fresh cream does not work. It is not as stable as non dairy cream. If you ue fresh cream you will want to add gelatin or something to stabilize it.

Another quotation when transferring the second layer to the top after piping is it better to do while cake is cold or warm like how do you not get your cake to break on you I made a Letter R today and my cake broke is it better to work with the cake once it’s cold
You want to always work with your cake when it's cold! A warm cake will break much easier and makes it harder to work with.

Depends on your cake size. I used 2 boxes for this cake.

The only thing I have a hard time getting down are the macarons... Wow So pretty.
How long do you wait to add the top layer of cake after piping the bottom got it won’t completely squish the bottom
I applied it immediately. Whipped cream doesn't freeze hard so it doesn't neccesarily help to wait.
Also I use non dairy whipped cream which is very stable and hold up the top cake very nicely.

Wash them and then wrap floral tape arond the stems.

I used an 11x15 cake pan. I actually just drew and cut out the numbers myself.

You can decorate a day in advance and just keep it in the fridge or freezer until you want to eat it.

Is your whipped frosting regular whipped cream? Or do you add anything to stabilize it to hold up the second layer?? I’ve only used buttercream :(

How do you prevent the cake from drying out? Aren't sponge cakes on the dried side to begin with?

What piping tip size do you use ?? if you don’t what exactly do you use for piping !!
For this cake I didn't use a piping tip. I just used a bag with a pretty big hole. But if you want to use a piping tip just use a pretty large round tip.

The cake is somewhat frozen but not completely. I use whipped cream for all of my cakes and wouldn't know about buttercream on a frozen cake.

Do your meringues and macarons get wet on whipped cream? I tried decorating a cake covered in whipped cream with red macarons but after a few hours the macarons were soggy and the color was bleeding on the cream
I have not had a problem with that at all so far. I would add the macarons last min if possible to prevent that from happening.
You can melt a small amount of chocolate, put your meringue and bottom of macarons into the chocolate and then put it on cake 😋chocolate will play a role of protector

What kind of cake do you recommend using for this? I want to make it homemade but also don’t want it to break!
Just any sponge cake will work. To make it easier freeze the cake after you have cut it. That way you will have a more stable cake to work with and it won't break as easily. Does that make sense?

You can make it up to a day or 2 in advance. Just keep it in the fridge or freezer until serving it.
Can you use the cake mix in the box? And does the cake have to be cold? I tried but it fell apart . I used frosting in the middle that’s why?
Yes, I actually used betty crockers chocolate cake mix for this cake. It was actually still a little frozen when I cut it. And then I did freeze it for a bit before setting the second layer on top to make that part easier.

I decorated the same day as client needed it. I just kept it in the freezer until it was picked up.
