Crystal Water was a very underrated horse who raced in the shadows of Forego. A grade 1 winner at 3 in 1976, Crystal Water had a monster 1977, winning 4 grade 1 races(Big Cap, Californian, Hollywood Gold Cup, Oak Tree Invitational). Unfortunately for him, sweeping the Big Cap and Hollywood Gold Cup wasn't enough, in Eclipse voters' minds, to make up for a couple of dismal showings back East.

I think he set or tied the record for 1 1/8 mile on grass.

Crystal Water was one of my favorite horses back in the day. Too bad he never really was left much bloodstock behind.
