Il processo creativo di una stella.. Jaco tale è stato, una stella che continua a brillare di luce propria! Non possiamo non riconoscere che ci manca tanto, tantissimo!!! JACO, TI VOGLIAMO BENE!!!
This Version of Havona is I bit of Heaven on earth, Jaco' s up in heaven with a great bunch of players and our good Lord has the best seat in the House" I miss JP more than I can express in mere words. I feel a kinship with him and I will be honored to walk with him some day in heaven and tell Jaco just how much we all miss and love him. Oh yea I would ask him if I could play his fretless.
How many times have I entered "havona" into the search bar hoping that something like this existed, only to be assaulted with horrible cover bands or "bass-lesson" butcherings? The WR version is my fave, but this is absolute historical gold and beautiful in it's own right! Thank you!!!!!! (oh, and very tasty video montage as well)
I have read that Jaco auditioned for the bass chair in Tony William's New Lifetime band. This would have been recorded a little bit after that time. Great version. Thanks for posting!
Maestro Jaco! Bravo! I think this was one of the piece's they were considering for Jaco's first release. Sounds like Herbie and Lenny White. What a session and no words to describe Jaco except maybe thank you man! And Happy belated Birthday!
As a black man I know that Jaco being Latino definitely was a big part in the flavor of his playing. That being said, he is still my number one favorite bass player ever
Interesting version of this great piece, (as it would most definitely be with these great musicians on this date). But the slower tempo and the solos, which seem to be searching, aren't near the astounding recording of Havona by Weather Report. Fascinating to see how the lives of these great pieces of music with their different arrangements, different players, and different stages of their development can sound.
interesting recording, if a bit crude and unrehearsed. zawinul's arrangement of this song, however, and jaco's solo in the other - weather report - edition are simply breathtaking.
Thank you for this :) Interesting! nice embryonic version; you can see that the famous version is faithful to the concept but the genius' of Zawinul and Shorter just added that WR flavour. But I must admit that this version is more Jazz, as the WR is more Jazz-Rock, I guess. anyway, thank you!!
I have yet to hear a ...." Sweeter Sounding Fretless Soloist "!!!! Jaco was to the " Fretless " , what Bruce Lee was & remains to " Martial Arts "!!! Like Bruce told that kid in " Enter The Dragon "......" Don't THINK.....FEEL!!!! " For those of us that remember....!
I'm totally amazed with this. THANKSA so much for posing. My guess is the drums are played by Bobby Economou, the piano maybe by Alex Darqui and the handdrums and other perc might be the late Don Charles Alias - does any of you cats have any knowledge. This is GREAT MUSIC - thak you so very much!
This is incredibly interesting! What are the details about this recording? Where did this come from? Is this a rehearsal demo? Where was this recorded?
James Steen I’ve passed along your comments to the drummer. He promises to do better in the future. Can you give me some examples of how you think he should sound?
Jaco, nobody creative like you...
we will always deeply miss you!
thank you for your everlasting inspiration!
May God bless your soul!

nobody plays like jaco, he had infinite music ideas that he could bring to life on his fretless
in questa versione è chiara l'unicità e l'importanza di Jaco nella storia della musica moderna....... :°(

Holy crap, can't believe this version exists. I've spent hours listening to WR version. Really like Herbie's voicings here.

This is incredibly interesting! What are the details about this recording? Where did this come from? Is this a rehearsal demo? Where was this recorded?
An amazing piece! Is this version available on any official material? And the one from 1974? Many thanks for posting this!!!
@cnegley3rd 20 years? make that 2000 light years!
How did you get a hold of this? Or was this released on a Herbie album?
Awesome thank you ! was this recorded around the time of JACO'S first solo lp?
Thats not Herbie on Rhodes. No way. I know his Rhodes sound and feel and thats 100% not him.
Where were you able to get this???? Is it on some sort of "Out Takes" release ?
…"more cowbell"!?!
Amazon
I am absolutely shure - this is NOT Hancock. It's Alex Darqui....
yes Peter ;-)
right!
You read my mind as I was wondering who was on keys
hancock ?
Ce n est pas Herbie ce n est pas du tout son style!
Ce peut être Tony Williams aux Drums?
Drummer is way to busy, rolls like that are for rock!!!!!!
James Steen I’ve passed along your comments to the drummer. He promises to do better in the future. Can you give me some examples of how you think he should sound?
