Shmee , I highly recommend you put clearplex windshield protection film on your fleet of cars this product will save you lots of headaches, or ExoSheild also works . It's not that expensive but gives you a bit more peace of mind

lol colorado native here, it's not uncommon to go through at least one windshield per car a year. i even had a rock blow a hole in my sideview mirror cap once. it was still sitting inside of it when i looked at it lol
Tim , you should start applying PPF on the windshield as well. Do some research , it’s also a common issue with G wagons , because of the flat windshield it cracks easily.

While you are waiting for the windscreen, a specialty service like "Safelite" may be able to do a temporary "fill" of the crack with their resin/superglue treatment to disguise the break & make it less distracting and also discourage it from lengthening. I know they do this for little star type chips and I've seen how they can sometimes use a syringe with the resin/glue where it just follows and fills the visible crack and they just razor off the overflow on the surface to make it look almost new, 'temporarily'. It's like an "osmosis" trick.
Safelite Repair… Safelite Replace! Typically US auto insurance includes deductible-free (or reduced deductible) windshield repair/replacement cover. Rather surprised UK insurance doesn't also include similar cover. (Did you get US insurance coverage for your journey through the country?)

No the ford gt did not prompt the chicanes at le mans it was the porsches and Everything else that reached 250 miles plus. They didn't get introduced till the 80s the chicanes
Just a historic fact correction. Actually the chicanes were added because the Group C cars (Mercedes C9, Porsche 962, etc) that were reaching in the end of 80's 400kph ~252mph. In fact, a small privateer team, the VM Engineering, was obsessed with the idea of surpassing 400kph and in 1988 they did it, backed by Peugeot they got 407kph ~253mph a number that was rounded down to 405 to be used as marketing to the Peugeot analog model. After the 1989 organizers decided that it was enough and in 1990 the chicanes were introduced. The Ford GT Mk IV in 1967 reached 224mph (360kph).

I know it's a bit late now, but you said in the past putting PPF on the windscreen isn't a great idea, but what about on the inside, so if it does get cracked it won't fall to bits and be such a danger.

Windshields are a consumable item in Colorado. I've got a crack like that on each of my ("significantly" is an understatement) cheaper cars except the one I haven't driven (because it hasn't run) since moving to Colorado. Best wishes for a speedy resolution.

What an AMAZING racing car museum. As Shmee said that was some racing car royalty on display. I will have to see that museum myself and that private garage was epic! I have never seen a windshield crack like that. Best of all I appreciated the fact that did not deter Shmee from enjoying that museum and those cars. Well done Shmee. Well done.
Any windshield place should be able to do a “repair” on that crack. What they do isn't actually a repair at all, but they'll drill a little dimple at the end of the crack and then fill it which stops the crack spreading and getting worse before you get a chance to get a replacement. It's inexpensive and quick. Where I live (Alberta) cracks are so common there are little stands in grocery store parking lots that can affect a repair while do your weekly shop, although a place with a fixed address might be more appropriate for the GT.
In the early 70’s I was 7/8, I heard a roar outside. There was a Mustang 350GT Cobra couple, finished in blood red, with a black strip through the middle. At the time we where in a petrol shortage, when we went down hill he would put into neutral 😂 What makes me smile the most, he dropped me off at school, also we lived in Morecambe, at the time, were an Escort was the norm.
I'm so glad that I bought glass insurance for all of my vehicles here in Malaysia. Basically just annually paid and no matter how many times you crack a windshield, you just need to pay $30-50 for a new one.

I’ll never understand why windshields can be so hard to get when it comes to cars like the Ford GT. There’s not a lot of Ford GT’s in the world and surely it’s not like everybody is getting windshield cracks. With less demand, the windshields should always be in stock.
The windscreen on those cars must be extremely thin, which I assume is for weight savings. I'd rather my car be a little heavier and have more durable glass than having to deal with constantly replacing it, ESPECIALLY for a price of over $3K.
Not on the GT. We did not se it. They did drive on some back roads that weren't exactly pristine, and while this is only an assumption, I do get a feeling that this could have come from the Dark Horse. These tyres kick up a lot of stones and gravel.

I feel your pain; I bought a new 2024 GMC Sierra Denali in April. Had less than 400 miles on it, driving on an empty highway at 7am on a Saturday morning, and a truck on an overpass kicked up a rock which fell and destroyed my windshield. I was beyond pissed off.

FWIW the windshield crack may be an insured loss on your car insurance. In the US we have “comprehensive” coverage which is damage from natural causes, like rocks hitting windshield. I live in SC where glass replacement is zero deductible. Also in some states is the US you can get a ticket for a cracked windshield if law enforcement deems it a serious impairment to visibility❤.❤

Dang Tim, you always seem to have the worst luck when you are on tour no matter what you are driving. I’m sorry man! Hopefully it turns around for you. You can go get some clear scotch tape from Home Depot and apply it over the cracks. It will keep them from spreading as bad until you can find a suitable replacement solution.

Sometimes you have to pay to play. But I would pre order windshields for all of the cars that are in the collection that maybe on back order, that way you have a spare for the future, and your already in line for the most driven cars. Not on the GT. We did not se it. They did drive on some back roads that weren't exactly pristine, and while this is only an assumption, I do get a feeling that this could have come from the Dark Horse. These tyres kick up a lot of stones and gravel.

with the amount of windshields you go through, do they not have glass coverage on insurance for that type of car?
I feel your pain; I bought a new 2024 GMC Sierra Denali in April. Had less than 400 miles on it, driving on an empty highway at 7am on a Saturday morning, and a truck on an overpass kicked up a rock which fell and destroyed my windshield. I was beyond pissed off.

FWIW the windshield crack may be an insured loss on your car insurance. In the US we have “comprehensive” coverage which is damage from natural causes, like rocks hitting windshield. I live in SC where glass replacement is zero deductible. Also in some states is the US you can get a ticket for a cracked windshield if law enforcement deems it a serious impairment to visibility❤.❤
Most of the cars with the number 98 are k e n miles cuz that was Shelby's favorite number number 98 and he gave it to Ken and as I've told you before me I knew Carol Shelby very very very well and also employee number one at Shelby America is a friend of mine that lives here in Las Vegas Mr Peter Brock by the way where's Dan gurney and AJ fortson 67 number one red car
Dang Tim, you always seem to have the worst luck when you are on tour no matter what you are driving. I’m sorry man! Hopefully it turns around for you. You can go get some clear scotch tape from Home Depot and apply it over the cracks. It will keep them from spreading as bad until you can find a suitable replacement solution.

Sometimes you have to pay to play. But I would pre order windshields for all of the cars that are in the collection that maybe on back order, that way you have a spare for the future, and your already in line for the most driven cars.
