As an jamaican/ professional chef I would tell you good job even though i would do it an little different. You can add some butter beans and carrots to your oxtail and some butter and 1 tbsp brown sugar to the liquid for the rice and some fresh ginger to the bbq sauce for the jerk chicken but next time make an smoother sauce, other than that good job.🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 even though I now live in the USA I am still an yard boy Jamaican.
AMAZING , often times when non Jamaicans try to cook our food they do it horribly wrong...I can tell you took the time to do your research.... rice was a little wet for my liking but overall great job 👍🏾🇯🇲🇯🇲
Shaun M. Yes she did a great job...the rice was a little bit soft and mushy, but everything else was fantastic and looks amazing, so yeah great job to her, as a Jamaican myself I’m proud.🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Lizzy Lew Food hey girl, you did good for a first attempt! Your patties looked bomb af, you are right oxtail is expensive but you did well. I cook my oxtail differently from you and you need a Dutch Pot to cook the oxtail in. The best rice to use for rice and peas I find is basmati gives it great flavour and tastes even better the next day. When you cook it again, put less water and the rice will be even fluffier. Great job though as always. Love from Jamaica 🇯🇲 via U.K. 🇬🇧
This is the first video where I am not offended when someone prepares Jamaican dishes. Excellent attempt 👏🏽 over time you will definitely get better! Yuh need a good set of dutch pots now and scotch bonnet pepper
Looks DELISH! But where’s the fried plantain? And what are the ingredients to the dry seasoning? I didn’t see the link for the dry seasoning ingredients. Otherwise... I think you did a fantastic job 🇯🇲!
Best believe I’m making those Jamaican beef patties as soon as it’s up. I murder my trini friends beef patties anytime she makes them. Now I can make em on my own. I’m amped! 🤤🍴
So I just came up on this channel and am a Jamaican and girl you did great. Am always looking for people cooking or eating Jamaican food makes me so proud not a lot of people can cook Jamaican food but girl!!!!! You made me extremely proud 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
I absolutely love Jamaican food. I think you hit is out it out of the ballpark. Cooks all over the world use what’s in season, fresh and available. You did that! I love that you’re trying new techniques and cuisines from different cultures. Good on you girl!
I grew up on Southern Style Oxtails which is cooked with Potatoes,Onions,Peppers. I remember having Jamaican Style Oxtails in my early 20's. And just like you I thought what in the world had I been missing. It's nice trying different kinds of food. You did a great job. All you needed was some Ginger Beer to wash it all down.
Everything looks delicious! Next time u make the rice and peas let the coconut milk come to a rigorous boil before you and the rice and use some butter beans in your oxtail yumm 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Coming from a Jamaican you did exceptionally well, a little tip though use warm water to cook the oxtails it reduces the time and amount of water it takes to cook while making it tender... love from Jamdung🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
I love Jamaican food. I’m actually going in June this will be my third trip. Last time we had a personal chef and when I say I wanted to bring auntie home with me. Her food was amazing.
I almost burned my food watching you 😂. Everything about this video was great. I liked how you respected their way of cooking and tried to stay true to it. I love how you stepped out of your comfort zone and used another method. I like how you made a dish you never had and didnt let that stop you....i see why you are a great chef. 2 days after Christmas for my 3 day weekend im going to get my nails done, hair done and some nice jewelry since my bday is jan 9th lol. Sorry for this long post! Also you are such a beautiful person on the inside and outside 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
I tried the bbq Jerk chicken last night and It was a hit!!! That sauce was amazing! I drained the juices from the chicken before putting the bbq sauce on and used it to cook my rice and Dirty Jerk rice was born!! Amazing! The flavors everything was perfection! 😳🤸🏾♂️🙃😋🙌🏾 I had no expectations for the rice since it was something I decided to do last minute but sooooo glad I did! Yuuummyy!!
Oxtail has to be one of my favorites. I think I like the Jamaican style oxtail over my own cultures lol they do have a distinct and unique flavor profile.
What I love the most is that you admit that it may not be perfect and that you want us as Jamaicans to approve of the methods you use because I cannot stand when someone acts like they know more than the people who helped to form the culture and practices
Got a notification from you and I quickly stop watching a vlog from some one else just to watch your video. I feel like it’s been Forevaaaaa since you last posted 😭
Caribbean people (not just Jamaicans) use green seasoning on EVERYTHING LOL, I remember one year my auntie used green seasoning on her turkey for thanksgiving
can you please please please make a puerto rican feast video, you're my favorite cook and I love you. I would love to see stew chicken, pernil, yuca, alcapurrias, mofongo cup with shrimp and avocado inside, pastelles if you could find an easy way to do em, pastelles is my absolute favorite food
OMGGG, you’re great with everything you try, A suggestion, I would love to see you try to make Nigerian food, Jollof Rice and a good Stu, I think you would nail it, some Fufu as well
Hey Lizzy, coming from a Jamaican who loves to cook, you did an excellent job. With the oxtail you could had made the flour solution to thicken the gravy because that's how much Jamaicans if not all do it. The bean would had helped with the gravy also. You rock and I am a new subie because you did us good! 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
I was born and raised in Jamaica, everything looks good except for when you kept stirring the rice and peas and even though the technique for the oxtails was different from the traditional way it looked so bomb!! Keep up the good work. You should try making some jamaican breakfast like ackee and salt fish with fried dumplings 😋🇯🇲
Lizzy, please do a Puerto Rican feast next! We have mofongo, pernil, arroz con gandules, empanadas, pollo guisado and so many more mouth watering dishes 🤤
My husband is Jamaican. We use a pressure cooker for the oxtails and that helps it to fall off the bone. Everything looks great. I haven't tried rice and peas and my jerk chicken I only use a dry seasoning, but I may try it the way you did it.
Girl u did your thing, the peas you used is absolutely fine, we have a few different peas to use, the pigeon peas you couldn't find is also known as Gungo peas which is a different flavour , for the oxtail you could have used a thickening agent, yes bbq on jerk definitely changes the game, love your channel, you are absolutely awesome in the kitchen 🥰🇯🇲
Tip for the oxtails, add water as you go when they are cooking, you’ll start to see when the meat is ready and when you shouldn’t add more to get that gravy you want 🤤🤤
MY Jamaican mother said you are soooooooo invited to the Jamaican cookout! Lol This is amazing. Wish my first Mukbang video was trying your Jamaican food instead of a restaurants cause This. Looks. Like. It's . Everything!. PERIODT.. LOL
Every since moving to Florida, I’ve fallen in love with Jamaican cuisine. Spent a week in Jamaica for my anniversary in July & the food was to die for! I’m definitely going to try your jerk chicken recipe. Please make curry chicken if you decide to do Jamaican again🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Hey Lizzie can’t believe I get to tell YOU something, but making your own browning is so easy...1/2 c brown sugar on medium heat. Stir until melted, will darken eventually but don’t let it burn. Slowly add water, stir. Add more, stir. Continue adding water until it is the consistency of a thick balsamic vinegar. Done! 👌🏾❤️
I’ve been to an authentic restaurant where they make their beef paddies homemade and their meat is like yours and so good. You’re doing something right.
You did a great job. Don’t forget your buttered beans, the oxtail (or meat) don’t need to sit for 40 mins in the vinegar (just a few washes) and you did use the correct beans (kidney beans). You made me so hungry 😋
You did good!! im Jamaican you did the best I saw for an American!! next time use coconut milk and the coconut powder or even the coconuts it self blend that with time scallion, onions no water season the coconut milk and let it boil with the peas until it looks like you have no more liquid ( middle of the pot) then throw the rice in and turn the fire on low and let it cook out.. poke the rice here and there but never stir until it gets Shelly.. 🇯🇲 LIKE I SAID YOU DID EXCELLENT.. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Kidney beans are perfect....that's what alot of us use for our regular sunday dinner. At Christmas time we use gungo peas which is the pigeon peas. That gives it a more nutty flavour. If you were able to get the traditional grill you would fall in love even more with the jerk chicken. The pimento wood and smoke adds much more to it. Hopefully you get to try the real deal when you visit jamaica. But your food turned out wonderful...especially the rice and peas. That's how us jamaicans love it.
You did great👌🏾 Yes, unfortunately although my favorite dish. Oxtail is SOOOO pricey; however, really delicious when done correctly. It can be a tough meat and needs to be cooked until tender and you nailed it 🙏 I am fasting on meat for a bit and have considered vegetarianism permanently for a while for health reasons and maybe most importantly, I HATE cleaning meat as it truly grosses me out. But sometimes when I’m alone and it’s late at night, sometimes I think I can hear the oxtails whisper my name 👀 🤦🏽♀️
I’m Jamaican, next time try adding butter beans to your oxtail, it would thicken your gravy girl! But great jobbb!
Thanks for the tip! I was actually gonna add them and completely forgot 😩😂
Yes she did a great job and it was actually refreshing seeing someone doing such a good job. I'll subscribe just because!
or you can add what we call irish potatoes to thicken as well..
