I think my favourite thing about these old-school duels is the fact that you can play a 300 attack monsters face up attack and NOT fear that you will just get obliterated from the sky with no counter play. Keep it up, it's very enjoyable watching old-school YGO.
@@EBlade3529 you *ENJOY* getting blown off the map in one turn? i get that the game needed to evolve but a lot of the mind games that made ygo cool are gone 😭 it’s pretty fun to watch now
@@carlitosjuarez221 Even back then the official rules were still 8k LP and tributes were needed. Using 4k LP and no tributes were just house rules/anime rules.
I’d like to thank the three idiots for reviving my love for yugioh. I watch Rhyme, Doto, and Seereax’s yugioh videos(as well as their other variety content).
When you had a 4 star monster with 2000 DEF on your first turn.. you felt so secure in old Yugioh.. now you special summon multiple monsters with over 3000 ATK on your first turn and still know you will probably lose them next turn.
My favorite classic card of all time is Penguin Soldier, the amount of comebacks, laughs and memories obtained by solely having that card in my deck is incomparable.
These are an absolute blast to watch, I miss old school YGO, back when you would actually be able to go back and forth with an opponent and play the game instead of having a 15 minute first turn then your opponent plays their turn on your turn and wins the game with 10 negates on the board so you can't play your own turn.
My favorite classic card is change of Heart, there's a reason my first and favorite Master Duel archetype I've worked on is a modern deck that makes heavy use of power spells, and can make extremely good use of the old school ones.
Rhyme loves old school yugioh because you never know...except he builds his decks to be as broken as possible so you literally know what's going to happen ☠
I would say my favorite classic card is red eyes black dragon. The battle between Rex and Joey is probably the episode I rewatched the most as a kid. And always loved the cool powered up versions that would show up like red eyes black metal dragon or black skull dragon.
Honestly it’ll be class if they have a release date for old cards. I think they should have permanent separate xyz, fusion rooms etc. However I think they’re missing a trick not adding a tag team mode. Could you imagine Rhyme and Seereax or Doto cooking up opponents. They’ll be setting off the fire alarm with all that smoke.
It would be perfect if they made a separate mode, where you can make any deck you want limit x amount of decks with any cards you want but it's only good for that mode, you could battle your friends with any and all decks you want to create. This way you are able to bring all eras of decks back and let you try other decks you've wanted to build.
It would be cool to see you guys make a ban/limited list for this series. Like only 1 mirror force allowed per duel so it doesn’t get super repetitive with the traps
The thing I remember about Old School Yugioh was that basically everyone just pulled Exodia. Or Blue-Eyes. Blue-Eyes not so bad but really sucks when the only place you could buy your cards from got robbed every other week of all booster packs.
I want to see a room devoted year round to specific summoning mechanics released. Example: only original style with no Link or Syncro. But you can use modern cards. Then each room would gradually increase and progress and include the next introduced summoning mechanic.
Favorite Old School card is purely aesthetic and not really practical in any meta past or present was the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon. Saw it debut in the movie way back and was just the coolest looking card I'd ever seen. Runner up would be Gilford the Lightning.
I really enjoy old formats. I still remember how i used my ace, morphing jar #2, to make opponents discard their spell cards and ace monsters (> level 5) to graveyard, whilst back then getting sent to GY is basically out of reach.
It would be great if you could organize cards in order of release, but I imagine that makes to different lists based on OCG or TCG. Still, adding two new data ranges for cards (Basically TCG:YYYYMM and OCG:YYYYMM) shouldn't require a huge update, especially since the game has no problem recording when you picked a card up (there's an organize by obtained feature).
These old school yu-gi-oh video and so much more fun for me to watch. Modern is just so much tributing and long ass turns that can get boring to watch sometimes. These videos are awesome.
There's so many thing they can add to the game, a free mode/casual mode that have no limit (unban every cards), deck tester where you can test card and interraction, a better card searcher make it so you can search from packs/year/name, in the end its up to the developer how much they want to commit into the game
I would love a game mode that piggybacks off the Legacy packs. Only Legacy cards allowed would make for such amazing classic duels that could bring any relapsed or casual fan back to the game
I would love to see a bunch of different formats for MD, whether it be just a classic format or all of the main summoning formats. As for my favorite classic card it’s either E-hero Stratos (If you consider GX era as classic) or Harpie Lady (if you only count DM as classic)
Personally think that the reason there’s no contesting the classic mode idea is Master Duel doesn’t give no content but they sure do drip feed it so a whole new mode is more than welcome as long as its accessible enough. And a lot of the classic cards are Ns and Rs so it works out
More modes is always welcome. I do wonder though, if Konami are limiting them to funnel people into ranked, to versus people who might be using meta/stronger decks and give them more chances to lose so they feel more obligated to buy card parks. That seems like something they'd do because other than that, I can't think of a reason why more modes to make more people happy to play your game would be something you don't want to do, as a developer. Favourite classic card? Thousand-Eyes Restrict. He just munches your monsters and you can't attack him :)
Would definitely love to have a mode in either master duel or duel links with cards only from the DM era. I've also sent an email on this topic but didn't receive an answer. We should start a petition.
Ahh, the old zombies ❤️ One if my favorite archetypes and my first "serious" deck back in the days. Miss old YGO, hope to see morr videos like that, they bring out really great and fun memories 😊
Dude, that game 1 was the biggest throw I have ever seen. Before your opponent banished your thunder dragon that you sent to the grave, you could have tributed your spirit reaper for another thunder dragon giving you a light and a dark to banish for BLS for game. How did you not think of that, man??
I'd love a classic mode that uses older cards. Of course my favorite card "Xyz Dragon Cannon" (love because design and the idea behind union even tho the mechanic technically sucks) would still be useless since even with modern support it still isn't great. But with classic support (which means no support at all) it's... not exactly better
Another thing that also comes a bit frustrating is some always comparing their highlights when using two weak level decks with a friend to a ranked ladder that by default would always be far more competitive oriented regardless of which mode is being played. It's very easy to claim one is better when the samples are biased
I'll say this, I LOVE how fast you can reach your boss monsters in modern day Yu-gi-oh. My favorite cards back in the day took (on a normal basis) 2 turns to get out. But what I will say is the levels of negates in modern day Yu-gi-oh....it drives me insane. It's no longer a game of "I build my army, you build yours and lets see who is stronger"; it's become "Hmmm, okay, five negates should be enough....no, no wait let me add these three on top JUST IN CASE."
One tip for Rhyme: when using Thunder Dragon, use it to search for only 1 dragon (leave the other one in the deck), and then discard the other thunder dragon for the last one in the deck. Gets you two lights into the GY instead of one.
rather than a dedicated retro mode they should just let you configure your duel rooms to only allow cards up to/after certain points, so like if i want only original cards from the very first release i can do that, or if i only want cards from the gx era i can do that too, or even only cards that have released in the last few years. i think being able to control the exact timeframe you allow cards from would be really cool.
5:06 back in the day I really used to think that destroying a card would stop its effect but I didn't understand the concept of chain and how some cards even if you destroy it the effect still goes into play
1:44 i really like magic cylinder, idk why, but it was so cool when playing with my friends, and they were scared to attack ne when they were at low life points, because they knew it was probably magic cylinder (or probably mirror force)
My favourite old school card of all time is definitely Delinquent Duo. It’s absolutely a card that if it were legal now it would completely change the way the game is played. Would absolutely be a 3 of in most decks, and would be a weird power boost to decks revolving around discarding. I never want it to be unbanned, it would absolutely break the game, but it holds a special place in my heart.
I guess my issue with modern Yugioh is more of how the powercreep has gotten so bad that every card basically reads "if this resolves, win the duel", and cards have to read like that otherwise they don't trade with your opponents 15 negates.
It would be a great thing if they had a classic mode. I finally picked up the game and started playing through the practice duels and I do NOT like link summon combo strings. The computer took FOREVER. I can only imagine real players. It’s fun to watch for in the UA-cam format with editing but in real life it’s torture. lol
Modern players have no issue with there being more modes, if anything it's more than welcomed as it makes the game more accessible. The reason any other time there seems to be opposition when talking about old school compared to modern is due to one side often having some constantly trying to invalidate the other's preference and claiming "it only got worse after [post-dm game mechanic]" when they have not even attempted to learn anything beyond just hating it for being new
Play and understand the game after leaving for 18 years...it gets terrible in many duels of seeing the same boss monster over and over and over......and over and over again. Old school at least had variety and half the time your boss monster wasn't even what won u the duel cause it got hit with change of heart, trap hole, or man eater bug just to name a few so much more excitement than 5-10 minutes of solitaire every turn and God forbid there not an okho and u have to reset your 5-10 minute board or your opponent does which is even worse could go grocery shopping on my opponents turns I swear
You're comparing a competitive ranked ladder to casually messing around with friends or similar. In a competitive scene it's impossible to not see the same decks and boss monsters over and over even back then. The OCG even for a while before the game went global had FTK Exodias running around EVERYWHERE before the problem cards received some very needed erratas and the strategy back then was just as boring as today's variants of such deck. Regardless of the format a RANKED setting will always feature the same or similar decks and it's beyond absurd to compare it to an idolized memory. The variety you want still exists in the modern era when played with people you know casually instead of ranked, if anything there's even more variety cause of the many new archetypes introduced over the years.
@@Dragonmatic I can go into casual mode and it still the same decks as ranked is even duel rooms are almost worthless now cause most are unlimited where it's literally who goes first wins end of story no questions no counters or negates u will just lose if u go second in unlimited
In an online scene a true casual mode isn't fully possible. It's why I keep specifying with friends or people you know when I talk about it as it gives a more fair comparison to when someone in the old days would have 9 times out of 10 just been playing the game with a friend or classmates who never took it competitively
Despair from the dark was one of my favorites but I think, top of the list goes to Tyrant Dragon. 2900 atk fire dragon that can't be targeted with traps and can double attack was my version of dark magician/ blue-eyes white dragon.
