I feel kinda bad now. I am new to WN and I was bidding on a buuch of stuff the other day from a gal who was selling like $2 auctions. I noticed every time I won a payment went through. So she wasn't making very much money on me. Great for my business but bad for her money wise.
See ive been an Whatnot seller for like four years and at one moment there's was only.50¢ shipping fees on both ends so 2021 was a good time for everyone but bad for USPS and whatnot 😅 but thanks for sharing most people don't understand the fee you're appreciate it bud also my name is my name have great day y'all
Its cheaper than ebay. I go as low as $2. I did try $1 start and someone told me about what I will get and I decided not to do that anymore because its not worth it. I know of a seller who starts everything at $3.
Actually it's not if you sell items under $5...the 30 cents per transaction takes a chunk. Ebay averages 15-17% total...lower sales on whatnot as I show in the video can take 25-50% in fees.
Yea, we dont really go into taxes as we arent the experts, but you should be looking at all the other expenses as a reseller, so you won't make less, but you will right off more. But really, talk with an accountant for best advice.
They are only getting that big % when folks sell things for under $3 - if you can make it with bigger $$ items on Whatnot, then you can average around 15-17% which is basically the same as Ebay, Etsy and Poshmark!
Unfortunately when I looked up the shipping fees on there they are a lot higher in Canada so we don't make as much on Whatnot. Sounds like it's better bundling stuff of lesser value.
We are doing a show next Tuesday on exactly this! With a seller from Canada who has sold over 2,000 items on Whatnot from Canada using Canada Post....tune in!😀
@@2DogsDigs Nice!! I'll have to watch that when I get a free chance. A friend of mine is going to be selling on there soon but I think he wants to start at $1 prices. He might be better bundling stuff and starting a bit higher.
@@2DogsDigs I was going do that with a friend of mine actually when i'm ready, I have to figure everything out with it and see if I can make what I need to make with it first and also need to figure out what I need for equipment to get started too.
WOOF! Its actually can be much cheaper than Poshmark, but is very comparable to Ebay and Etsy. Its all about NOT selling items for under $5 - if you do, the fees KILL YA!
So what about not holding Auctions..Just and only selling .are the fees different just having a store would be better i think not fair because You have to buy then sale.Right They call selling things for Cheap being a scab...The whole idea is to make money not loose it
So am I understanding this correctly? Whatnot charges a 2.9% Payment Processing Fee + .30 cents per transaction? Then PayPal charges me a second Payment Processing Fee of 2.9% + .30 cents per transaction?
Your fee is gas, time, hassle, meeting people, risking people not showing up, people wanting to offer less after they arrive, fake accounts messaging you about your items, stalkers, etc. You're also not going to sell anything in volume on Marketplace, so it's passable if you have a couple of items you don't mind sitting on the app for weeks/months waiting on a buyer.
I don’t think your explanation and understanding of the $.30 per transaction fee is correct. And the transaction fee is $.30 for the customers entire purchase, not $.30 per item so if a customer buys five items, they are not charged $.30 X5 or $1.50 - they are only charged $.30 total, because all five items are in a single transaction.
Actually that is incorrect. Every transaction charges the .30 cents. Unless they buy a quantity of an item in ONE PURCHASE..the seller will be charged for each and every buy done separately as its processed individually.
Then WhatNot may be violating terms with its CC Processor, as that is a BIG No No!! We’ve used about 10 different CC processing companies o er the last 20 years, and for those that charged a “Per Transaction Fee,” not one of them EVER did that on individual items in a combined purchase. Sounds like WhatNot will have a huge problem to fix, and if they don’t, they are ripe for a major Class Action Law Suit.
This presentation was greatly appreciated and helped tremendously.
See you on your next live whatnot show.
Thank you
Omg this was so huge to know I have my first show in Friday and now I won’t sell at a dollar ima
Bugle items together and sell at $5 thank you

Understandable.. but its up to sellers to know what their fees are! Don't feel bad at all!
Me too I didn't know I feel bad too...I wonder if the keep the tips?
@@2DogsDigsdo they keep tips!
@chanceberg832 Our understanding is that they do get to keep 100% of all tips.
Great information! I think a lot of people starting out felt they had to do the low dollar stuff……..hope others learn from your video!
I hope so too! We tried it for a few weeks and then realized how much it was actually costing us!
This was super helpful, & it makes so much sense! Thank you so much for explaining this! I really appreciate it! 🙏

Thank you for the great video
Glad you enjoyed it! Woof!
Never $1 and go unless you are ready to lose money
This was amazing! Thank you!
Glad to see this topic pop up. I did have a maxsold question to ask you, but I’ll send a PM
WOOF! Did you ever send the PM about Maxsold?
Awesome video. Easy explanation 👌 😌
Thnx! We try out best!
they got good support though, i messed up on an order and they still paid me i was shocked. I was expecting to just eat the cost on it.
That's very true! Thanks for watching the video! WOOF!
Good information. I am a little confused at how they can charge you a fee on sales tax.
Basically they are charging you a fee to collect and remit the tax on your behalf (which is well worth it vs. doing it on your own state by state!)
THANK YOU!!!!
WOOF! Thanks for watching!
Thank you

that spread towards the end with the fees do you have a copy of that?
If you send us an email at info@2dogsdigs.com I can send you a copy!
great information, however, this doesnt touch on end of year taxes. So once you pay those you are getting even less for the item you sold correct?
Yea, we dont really go into taxes as we arent the experts, but you should be looking at all the other expenses as a reseller, so you won't make less, but you will right off more. But really, talk with an accountant for best advice.
They are really robbing us.. what should we do or go to sell our stuff without getting ripped?

The fees are no different for auctions or buy it nows or marketplace sales. The same % are paid on each.
So am I understanding this correctly? Whatnot charges a 2.9% Payment Processing Fee + .30 cents per transaction? Then PayPal charges me a second Payment Processing Fee of 2.9% + .30 cents per transaction?
No there is only one processing charge.

@marcpatten4318 likely not. PayPal has been operating with this charge per transaction for 10+ years and that is who they are using.
So, 11.9% on the sold price + 2.9% additional on ship + tax. Plus $.30 each sale.
Woof! Yep...you got it!
@@2DogsDigs I thought it was 10.9% on sold price.
@whamlett2877 it's 8% on the sold price. Plus 2.9% o the sold price, the taxes and the shipping PLUS 30 cents per transaction.
Ugh, math
