    To add another possible win, I'd like to point out one scene of 'realism' displayed in this film, and it's one of my favorite parts in world building.
    Shortly after the brief encounter with Maul on Naboo, someone asks Young Skywalker if he is ok, and his response is "...I'm cold."
    This may not mean much to alot of people, but the kid literally spent his entire life, till this point, on a desert planet with two suns...this is his FIRST time being in space...and the kid is cold.

      From what I can make out the major reasons people hate the Phantom Menace in particular is the poor acting, the political talks and Jar Jar.
      I admit the acting isn't perfect but it personally doesn't bother me that much.
      I agree the political talks aren't the most exciting part of the movie but they do show us how the Republic is growing corrupt and how Palpatine is manipulating events from behind the scenes.
      Yeah, I really can't stand Jar Jar at all, he's not very funny and his voice is really annoying.
      Other than that I love this movie, it's got stunning visuals, a great score and one of the best lightsaber duels in the entire star wars canon!

      i think for a lot of people, especially the kids who grew up on the OT in the 80s & 90s, and who formed the core of the PT cinema audience when it released, they were comparing their rose tinted memories of the original trilogy, seen though a childs eyes, with a more objective, adult view on the PT, and they had almost impossible standards for those flims to reach.
      its intresting how much better they are viewed now, after the sequel triolgy, as people who grew up on the PT are now seeing their beloved star wars getting "Ruined" by new directors.

      @Vincent 2099 The fact that you think my comment is ridiculous makes it obvious you're one of those who got swept up in the prequel hate hype. You just jumped on a train. If you genuinely hate the prequels, that's totally fine. You're entitled to your opinion, just make sure it's your own. But I remember when these movies came out...there was no mainstream hate for these movies until years after their premieres. And even then, the Internet sensationalized the hate to make you think there was much more of it than there actually was. Go and look up the reviews for all three of these movies. None of them are bad by any means. In fact, compared to most movies, they're good and Revenge of the Sith has excellent ratings, by both audiences and critics. But if you listened to the Internet about these movies, you would think they had anywhere from 0% - 30% ratings. Again, you don't like them, fine, but don't delude yourself into thinking these movies are universally hated because they're not...in fact, more people like them than not.

    Extra Wins: The little signs of Anakin's arc
    - His angry response to Padme calling him a slave
    - His vindictive responses to Sebulba demeaning him for being a slave
    - His talk about dreams indicating both his power fantasy of being a Jedi and his compassion for the other slaves
    - His strong attachment to Padme and his mother because they are beautiful, kind things in his world of sand and slavery
    - His desire to explore, because he's been stationary for most of his life, hearing stories from those who aren't
    - His reverence of Jedi, which will be challenged as the movies go on (Kinda like 'Last Jedi')
    - His 'feel, don't think' wins in both the pod race and the space battle

    The Maul duel is one of the best scenes ANY movie has ever had. The editing and long cuts make it far superior to most fight scenes today. Nowadays you need to slow down a film to see half of what happens in the super fast cutting. The choreography maybe the best in any fight scene ever. The music (duel of the fates) is BEYOND EPIC! The tension when Obi Wan is trapped beyond the laser wall, skyrockets. The middle of the fight when Qui-Gon kneels to meditate. The second the wall opens, he attacks Maul like a lion. It's truly epic, all of it.

      You know how people should view it. An example...look at the space ships in the prequels compared to the OT. They are all polished and new while in the OT they look old. That references that in the prequels the industry was better. While when Vader was created everything began to fall down. That's why we don't see much politics in the OT, because politics don't exist anymore as much as before. Lucas knew what he was doing, sadly people can't figure out simple things like that. I also like to mention that the dialogue between Padme and Anakin is cringy for a purpose. The prequels were not represented as modern times, but rather classical times. Hundreds of years ago people who were in love were talking kind of cringy. Also being first time in love and in a relationship after never actually learning about those things is the result of being "cringy". The dialogue is just honest telling of feelings and that's it.

    I always thought it was interesting how everyone seems to miss the part when they say that "there haven't been any sith in a 1000 years". Seems meaningless until you consider that the oldest jedi at the time is Yoda who is only around 900 years old. This means that nobody in the prequels had any real life experience or encounters with the sith. The sith were essentially looked at by most like a scary myth. like a boogie man used to keep younglings from misbehaving. The equivalent would be us talking about vampires or rasputin and their legends aren't even 1000 years old yet.

      I agree to an extent, but remember that the Jedi fought numerous bloody and prolonged wars against the Sith; they were sworn enemies, and when the Jedi finally triumphed, it was a huge deal for the entire Galaxy. Yes, the Sith and much of their lore fell into legend in the thousand years that followed, but the Jedi Temple contained many surviving Sith artefacts and forbidden knowledge, so it's not like the Jedi were completely ignorant of them. Rather, over the centuries they became complacent and arrogant, thinking the Sith were extinct and that they couldn't return without them knowing. They underestimated their ancient adversary and paid the ultimate price.

    one of the most ridiculous things about when I actually saw The Phantom Menace in theaters is that everybody was clapping and cheering when the movie was over and it wasn't because they were excited than we was over, but it was actually because they thought the movie was actually good. Just all of a sudden after that people decide to just hate the movie and then everybody decide to hate the movie because that was the popular thing to do.

    Another thing to add about your comment on Obi Wan's last battle with Maul is that, if you notice his movements, he actually is enraged at Qui Gon's death. If you noticed before, his swings were smooth and graceful, while here, they're a lot more sharp and snappy. Plus, if you pay close enough attention to his face, Obi Wan looks incredibly pissed off. He may be a Jedi, but he's out for blood, which could be one of the reasons he nearly fell down the shaft.

    I feel like I am one of the only persons who actually was never bothered by the Medi-chlorians. This is story takes place in a highly civilized world with very advanced technology, so of course there would have been studies about the force to figure out how some is able to use it while others aren't. And as you said in this video it was established in the original trilogy that the force is genetic, Vader could even sense Luke was strong in the force at the battle of Yavin, despite Luke at that point only had been practicing it for couple of hours in the Falcon. The Medi-Chlorians fit perfectly into Star Wars as story is a story about seeing things from a certain point of view. The Medi-Chlorians is just the scientific point of view, it doesn't rob the force of its mystery as we through the all the movies and the clone wars learn more and more about the force and that there are manifistations of the force. Even Yoda learned more about the force that he didn't understand before.

    • @JakkFrost1
      @JakkFrost1 7 років тому +26

      I think "midichlorians" would have been more acceptable if they had been a sort of benign genetic marker, a mutation in the individual's body, perhaps one that alters the body chemistry slightly. Something internal that makes them more resonant with the Force, rather than what amounts to an external galactic sized swarm infesting a few hosts here and there. We have photoreceptors in our eyes to receive light and interpret visual information, the midichlorians should have just been Force-receptors somewhere in our brain.
      Don't try and explain the Force, but I think it would have been ok to explain how someone is _connected_ to the Force.

      Also, with all the backlash of the prequels, I'm sure Disney was afraid to bring up politics again in the sequels. Honestly, if anything, that's what's wrong with Star Wars and why the movies seem to be getting worse (though they really aren't). People complain about something that shouldn't be complained about and the script for future movies get affected since now those complaints want to be avoided. Some good plot points are avoided (like the thing with Darth Jar Jar I guess?) and we have movies trying to erase what previous movies did.

    I feel like the big "politics" problem of Star Wars Episode 1 & 2 specifically is that there was never really gonna be a way to avoid it.
    Keep in mind, at the start in the Phantom Menace the galaxy is basically at peace, so there's no Galaxy-Wide Conflict to drive the plot until the second act of Episode 2 after Obi-Wan discovers the droid factory. Phantom Menace and the early Padme Assassination Attempt plots are really driven by the Jedi doing their duties as peacekeepers rather than Warriors out saving the Galaxy, and it does so real well.
    The TL;DR summary of all this is that it's fine to not like Episode 1 & 2 for the slower, more politically driven parts of the plot cause some people just can't stand politics, but it helps show how the galaxy functions during times of peace and the responsibilities of the Jedi during those times.
    And if you really hate the Prequels to the point of violent outbursts and twitter rants because Jar-Jar Binks EXISTS, he's barely in Episode 2, and he's mostly just a vocal tag-along during Episode 1, so there really isn't anything I can say to fix that strange fucked-up part of you.

      Prequels becomed more appreciated even af far as 2014 for what I've been reading.
      futurism.media/why-is-the-star-wars-prequel-trilogy-becoming-more-appreciated
      Thing is that everything bad is said and nothing else bad can be added while people see that good far outweight bad and that is reason why prequels are in mainstream now.

      Michael Stark oh there was starting to be push back from Prequel supporters, but still Bashers came on strong. There was a great essay someone made oh a while back that went in great length as to why Mr. Plinketts reviews(which was basher's main 'proof' as to why they were bad) were wrong.
      It was a good piece, but bashers claimed it was B.S. because it was written down and too long. 😒
      Then you had TFA coming out and during the time it was announced to the premier, Disney and J.J. promoted the hell out of the film saying it was going to be nothing like The Prequels, and that they were going to capture 'Lucas' original vision'...
      Low and behold it was a New Hope ripoff.
      www.rickworley.com/2016/01/07/the-force-awakens-vs-the-prequels-or-so-this-is-how-personal-expression-dies-to-thunderous-applause/

      Thank you for this reading.
      This article is great and shows problems with TFA.
      I watched PT and OT many times and enjoy them while regarding ST, i don't think I will rewatch it
      Anyway I think that Sequels started all wrong without Skywalkers. Star Wars is not what it should be and in legends there are many Skywalkers and lineage goes on.
      Ben Solo is Solo not Skywalker.
      When you think about Skywalkers you think about Anakin and Luke.
      Hope that Luke had somwhere son who can take Skywalker name into future but I doubt it.
      Disney apparently want to get rid of Skywalkers for good.
      I liked Rogue One but cast was meh Lets say most interesting for me was droid K2so.

    There are a number of misconceptions about midi-chlorians fans have that lead to the hate of them. They are:
    1) Midi-Chlorians ARE the Force: False. All Qui-Gon says is that "without them, life would not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the Force" and that "They constantly speak to us, telling us the will of the Force." None of that contradicts Obi-Wan and Yoda's explanations to Luke that "The Force is an energy field, created by all living things."
    2) Midi-Chlorians create the Force: True with caveat. They are living things, and the Force is created by all living things, so midi-chlorians do create the Force. So do humans, Hutts, mynocks, Space Slugs, etc.
    3) Midi-Chlorians demystify the Force: Your Mileage May Vary. However, in the same sentence Qui-Gon explains midi-chlorians, he talks about the Force having a "Will," something it was not presented as having in the Original Trilogy.
    4) Midi-Chlorians reduce the Force to simple genetics and biology: False. The Prequels that give us midi-chlorians also reveal that Jedi (with extremely limited exceptions only mentioned in supplementary material) are forbidden from marrying, having families, etc. While it has been stated that the Jedi rules against "attachments" don't forbid, shall we say, casual encounters, that would be unlikely to produce sufficient Force-Sensitive offspring to keep the Jedi non-attachment policy from rendering Force-Sensitives functionally extinct within a few generations, if Force-Sensitivity was a strictly inherited trait. Moreover, Force-Sensitivity has always been portrayed as something you either have or don't, determined at birth, so it being linked a piece of biology makes sense. . . however it's not strictly biological or genetic, since (as implied in the prequels and pretty much confirmed as of the sequels, with Rey and Broom Boy) the Force is fully capable of just deciding "this person who's just been born is Force-Sensitive, regardless of parentage or ancestry."

    • @thefiresworddragon927
      @thefiresworddragon927 5 років тому +16

      Erik Bjelke Yup. All of that is true. Midi-Chlorians is basically the only realistic way to find out if someone is force sensitive. It's like Erhles Danlos Syndrome, which I have. It only has a 50/50 chance of passing on. Doesn't matter what kind it is, it's the same thing. And I highly doubt my Chronic Major Respiratory Condition (long ass scientific name, not even gonna say it. It's the entire airway collapsing on the outbreath) is passed on through genetics. And my mother doesn't build up wax in her ears, and I do. My younger sister has Autism, I do, I had a different father, both my sisters had the same father, and my older sister doesn't have Erhles Danlos Syndrome (at least wasn't diagnosed). My older sister also doesn't have Autism, as far as I am aware of. My sisters have dark hair, my mother has dark hair (grey now, she's at that point), I had blonde hair when I was born with blue eyes, I have had for over a decade now dark brown hair. My biological father? A redhead. To my knowledge, there is no one in my family as far back as my grandparents (I don't know what they had, they both have grey, at least my mother's side. Don't know my father's side. Didn't even know him) having blonde hair, and I am the only one to my knowledge (again, biological father, don't know much about him) that has the respiratory condition. Add that with my autism and Erhles Danlos Syndrome Type III, and you have easily one of the most unique and different people simply by genetics. Does that mean I have The Force? No. Even someone who is so normal and generic can have the force. And they find out at different times. Leia only actively used her Force powers in The Last Jedi, only once. That was SO many years after Episode 6. Luke used his powers without even knowing, Leia knew of them cause of Luke and still couldn't use them for so long.

      I never really had an issue with the "demystification" of the force through midi-chlorians but I like your explanation of how it works. And yes, it does kinda feel like the force looks at some one and says "You get the power this time"

    • @barrylyndon5552
      @barrylyndon5552 5 років тому +3

      I disagree. Not on the demystification but in a very medically and genetically advanced society you should not use simple things to explain mysticism. Why is no-one making artificial midi-chlorians? Why is widescale testing not instituted? Why are people not eugenically breeding it into their children? The minute you combine science with sheer magic you start thinking about advanced applications which, other than mentioning that Grievous had a blood transfusion to try and give him force powers, you never see anywhere in the EU. The midi-chlorian thing opened up a very large box that has been poorly looked at, much more at home in a cyber-punk setting rather than a very old and stable galactic one.

    • @kirklanyoshinaga8953
      @kirklanyoshinaga8953 5 років тому +7

      Tentons O'fun that makes sense except you’re talking about a society that has existed for at least 25,000 years with the same general level of technology(Star Wars expanded universe). I say at least 25k years because that’s how long the Jedi order has existed. Here is some interesting lore from the canon. Before the Jedi, there was the jedaii order which taught all aspects of the force both light and dark sides. I forgot what exactly happened but there was some irreversible split among them that birthed the Jedi and sith orders. That event happens 25k bby(before the battle of yavin, which is usually how time is counted among the fans[I’ve never seen a calendar in any canon source material that I’ve read]).
      Edit:
      Furthermore, if the republic had truly existed for at least 25,000 years, I would expect that the entire galaxy would be explored and the problems in there FTL method gone by then. There’s evidence of minor weapon innovation as well as ship innovations but nothing groundbreaking on the level of the real life industrial revolution. And to think in reality we have come so far in the last 500 years and this series expects me to believe that with the many species in the Star Wars universe competing against each other, that there’s the epic level of stagnation? Nope. But that’s only my opinion. I can’t speak for you or anybody else. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed episodes 1-6. It’s the new ones the I dislikes. 7 was just an updated version of a new hope with a female protagonist. 8 was laughably terrible and the fights were slow. Not only that but Rey picked up force powers and lightsaber combat as if they were items in a grocery store. Prequel trilogy showed us that Jedi training takes years to pull off the magic shot they do. Ot showed that Luke was somewhat of a prodigy but still took months under the grandmaster to get to the level he was at in return of the Jedi. Also it makes sense that Jedi skills degraded in the OT, the sith have been in control for a few decades. It was insulting to watch Rey pick it up in pretty much a few days. As for the combat in the new movies, despite being real and technically right it’s slow and choppy to the point that I could put any Jedi from the prequel in the new movie and they would be invincible because of how athletic the combat is in the prequels. Anyways thanks for listening to my rambling and again it’s only my opinion.

      That show was dumbest pre disney move of Star Wars. They destroyed Jedi lore making Anakin having Ahsoka as student although he was no master, they destroyed sith lore making more sith although only two should be. Not Ventress, Savage or other crap. They destroyed Maul because in TPM he was sith who lost because of arrogance and they shouldnt bring him back. Looks of characters is moronic with larger heads and voices sound nothing like those from movies. Clones without helmets looks nothing like those in movies and lightsaber duels are so idiotic with such unrealistic movements that this show should be burned. Only version from 2003 was needed and this is shitfest.

      I remember rewatching Attack of the Clones with my friend right around when Revenge of the Sith was going to come out and pointing out that Palpatine was obviously the Emperor. Both my friend and his dad were mind-blown by me calling it even though it was obvious to me. I should point out that my friend was the biggest Star Wars nerd I ever knew, so I felt very proud of myself when I realized he really had no idea.

    I have to defend Jar Jar a little - he's someone who was willing to sign away his life to Qui-gon out of respect for his tradition and for Qui-gon saving his life (so he's honorable), was willing to face execution for coming back to the Gungan city to help the Jedi, is constantly trying to converse with others or cheer people up and even has a heart to heart with the Queen on several occasions, and even fought in a war he could have easily died in just a diversion for the sake of his friends and the Naboo.
    Jar Jar is written overly comedic and annoying in places, but let's not forget that the guy is a pretty stand up fellow.

    Just a note before I get into the bulk of my comment. the clone wars cgi series and rebels are canon. they always have been, but it was made official years ago. so everything that happens, even maul's return, actually happened.
    now for the rest. I hate the meme hate that RLM created. just some click bait BS that recruited mindless followers into spread a hateful and unjustified meme that the prequels are the worst thing in history. the prequels used to be widely loved. they made a ton of money at the box office. made even more on vhs/dvd/blu ray. got a ton of positive reviews. you can even see the slide by taking the rotten tomato pages and putting them in the internet archive's wayback machine and looking at how they used to be viewed and how the scores dropped after RLM's videos and the hate meme. the scores, especially the audience score, dropped as much as 20 points from their pre-rlm days.
    its just so sad, especially since alot of the complaints are bullshit. the "all cgi" one especially. MOST of the effects in the prequels were practical/models. the landscapes/cityscapes, the ships, the sets. there is more CGI in ep 7 and rouge one then all the prequels combined. but this BS notion they were totally cgi still persists. even cinemasins hateful reviews parroted the lie and what made it worse is they did it on scenes where NOTHING in them was cgi. was alot of green screen used? yes, but so did the OT. having green screen does NOT mean it'll be replaced with CGI.
    and yes, midichlorians are NOT the force. they were NEVER the force. and never tried to "explain" it. midichlorians have been, and always will be, an arbitrary measuring tool the jedi used to categorize and label people. the jedi, as pointed out. were an arrogant bureaucracy that grew fat and lazy in their complacency. they thought they were the absolute rulers and the senate, etc had power because THEY allowed it. and to keep their power they kept a monopoly on "higher" people that were force sensitive. even going to so far as to keep a constantly updated list of force sensitive children and watching them until they could recruit them. and while some argue they actually kidnapped children, it was actually more like a rich schools sending scouts to recruit gifted students. they convinced the parents it wa in their child's best interest to join them so their power could be "controlled and guilded". all in an effort to make sure no one could rise up to challenge them. midichlorians were their way of gauging who was worthy of their teaching. they are attracted to the force, they don't create the force, much like maggots don't create rotting meat. in the end it was just a measuring tool, like SAT scores.
    overall i absolutely agree these films do not deserve the hate they get. not in the slightest. their effects, even today, are spectatular and its worth remembering that they were made during the early days of cgi use. Jar Jar was the first true CGI character. CGI creature had existed, but he was a main character with an important role in the film. and an early example of modern mo-cap. and ahmed best, the actor that was there in all of jar jar's shots, who performed everything jar jar did AND provided his voice, without him and jar jar, gollum and Caesar wouldn't exist.

      Rogan Phillips Thinking more about it, I suppose I can agree with the charm and charisma from the original actors, especially through Han, Lando, and even Chewy brought a dynamic that couldn't be replicated.
      And yeah, it's hard to expect the originals to have been planned perfectly since it was just meant to be one movie that got so popular they extended it, so it really is unfortunate that the story suffered for it. My first exposure to SW was the prequels (I can still remember watching Obi-Wan vs Maul in the cinema when I was only 3), so maybe being exposed to the more structured, planned story first meant I noticed the lack thereof in the originals when I eventually got old enough to watch all of them critically.
      This sort of ties over to the new trilogy, as it would've been a perfect opportunity to create a roadmap spanning these movies and having little story seeds planted within TFA that will sprout up and become major plot devices later on. While I have no doubt they've taken an approach like that, it worries me that each movie has a different director, as the previous one's vision may get lost in translation. Idk, might be going a little off topic lol

      Oh man I hadn't heard about Colin leaving Ep9... Hopefully it all works out for the better :/ I was never fully on board with the Han Solo movie tbh, I think there are a lot more interesting stories that could've been told but I'm still hoping for a decent film nevertheless. Hopefully someone can actually pull through and see it completed.

    • @fullswingin
      @fullswingin 7 років тому +10

      Rogan Phillips Definitely, the Clone Wars cartoon did a lot for Boba's character and I'm sure a movie following him more closely would've been really interesting and reaffirmed his reputation now that the EU isn't canon. But yeah, I just really don't know how they picked Han over the absolute plethora of other options that would've been really interesting... I mean, he's literally just a smuggler and imo the whole point of his character progression in A New Hope was putting his past behind him and fighting for a bigger cause than himself, which means a backstory will have to paint him as a stuck up, half-witted, scruffy looking nerf-herder and NOT a hero. Between making the story interesting and getting the characters right, I always felt like too much could go wrong lol.

    I loved the prequels as well. It makes me so sad to think of all the hatred these movies get. Bizarrely, the OT also gets a lot of negative comments. Those tend to be focused on ROTJ, though. Seriously, at what point did people start hating the Ewoks? I only really started hearing about that since the rise of the internet, particularly UA-cam.
    But with the release of TFA last year, I understood what people's problems with the PT were: they just wanted the OT again, but got something new and different. People didn't like the change. They weren't in touch with the spirit of what Star Wars was, they just wanted what they'd *seen* before.
    I for one think, particularly with the PT, Lucas did a brilliant job recreating a classic SF serial for the modern age.

      well even phantom menace borrowed alot from new hope, stop me if youve heard this one before, old jedi master rescues female royalty from an evil army of identical looking soilders with the help of a young human from a desert planet while fighting a bad guy with a red lazer sword dressed in all black lead by a misterious figure, the bad guys are then ultimatly defeted by a single piolt shooting proton tropedos at the main reactor of a large gry space ship which then ends in a award ceremony. thats litterally the plot of 3 of the 8 live action star wars movies, people didnt not like phantom menace because it wasnt similer to the ot because it was basicly new hope again (same as force awakens) . people didnt like phantom menace because of the bland action, bland acting, bland enviroments (gungan village is an exception), terrible child acting and the fact it breaks cannon in certian areas.

    • @mikejandrews
      @mikejandrews 7 років тому +15

      joshua powell How can you say the action in TPM "bland"? It was the most impressive action ever seen in a Star Wars movie. George Lucas often used the poetry analogy. In a lot of poetry, there are structural similarities between stanzas, and quite often rhymes. TPM (and as well as most of the films in the franchise) has this rhyming going on. TFA to me went beyond rhyming, with what seemed like a simple copy-pasting of the "first" verse.
      And breaks canon? TPM expanded the universe as we understand it. In what ways do you think the film breaks canon?

      There was little hate for the Ewoks in the mid 80s and ANH still reigned far-and-away as most peoples' favorite episode. IMO, it wasn't until the late 90s that there seems to have been a more significant adult-centric distaste of Ewoks and a darkened delight for favoring ESB.

And personally, I did like it! :) Like CW, I only learned I wasn't "allowed" to like it later on when the internet got bigger. One of my favorite things about the original trilogy is the worldbuilding, too. We just get to see so much more of the Star Wars universe! Sure it had flaws, but It literally made me a Star Wars fan, personally, I hate Luke more than Anakin, and the lightsaber moments in the prequels were far better than the original trilogy. It isn't as bad as people say, and if you think so, fine. But they were what they were, and the first movie in the franchise since was literally just Episode 4 remade, which was great, I loved it and own it on Blu-ray. But, don't pretend that without the prequels we would have even got another movie. Episode 3 had the BEST lightsaber fight I've ever seen, and proved Obi-Wan to be truly a great adversary, and I wouldn't change much in the movies.

Those were the days, and how dare the people that grew up with the OT hate on these movies and their fans for liking them. The OT has its flaws, as well, but they refuse to see them because those movies _were_ their childhood. As soon as the prequels came out and people started complaining about the lightsaber fights I was like "Uhhh... Do you even Star Wars? This is the time where the Jedi were trained in a fucking academy, thousands of Masters, archives, resources... And you expect them to fight like in their future movies, where the Jedi are basically a myth... Ok".

      And despite I'm not a fan of the political mumbo jumbo, I still find it was well placed. I mean, yes, the saga is called STAR WARS, but guess what, wars starts from somewhere, political mumbo jumbo to be more specific. Or are you going to tell me that every war in history was justified when they had meetings and such?

      I guess Lucas wanted the Jedi council to mumbo jumbo to expose their flaws and complacency and ignorance of the obvious, to play a part in the fall of Anakin and the Republic. It could have been done better, but let's be honest, the prequels were very, very hard to do. Needing to explain so much is a TRULY daunting task, and pretty much no one would have done it EXACTLY RIGHT.

      I really have no idea why anyone would complain about BETTER lightsaber fights. Honestly, the one in the original film is pretty darn dull. It was just exciting at the time because lightsabers themselves were new and awesome.

    Expanded canon isn't exactly non-canon. It's simply non-cinematic. Everything about Darth Maul surviving, and going on to fight Obi-Wan before Episode 4, is canon, it's just not cinematic!

      Totally. George Lucas was also behind The Clone Wars, so it has always been canon. (TCW and the six Lucas films laid the groundwork for the modern canon.)

    The prequels politcal-ness and deeper story and what it does for Vader (makes him better as a villain) is amazing. It's just a bit more... Intellectual? I enjoy it.
