I'm from Sittard, that's in the very south of the Netherlands. It is where the national trainings centre of holland is situated and the birthplace of Rens Blom, who became world champion in 2005 (Helsinki)

People who say lavillenie will never be as good as bubka BECAUSE his tuck are wrong. He is very efficient in moving to vertical. He also keeps his center of gravity in line with the chord of the pole keeping constant pressure of the pole

Yes, but he was falling off and didn't appear to be ready to qualify for the London games, but he came back, and I'll cheer for him. He really didn't seem to be a plausible candidate for the podium when I wrote that comment. Renaud is definitely the best technician, though.

@MilanM33 Shame that he couldn't get his pole right for the world champs. I'm American, but I'll still be rooting for him in the 2012 London games. The US doesn't really have a prayer to podium in the men's PV. I do like Hooker because he's pretty gutsy, but I really am blown away at how good a technician Lavillenie is. And he's a little guy and at a huge physical advantage. I know what that's like so I find it easy to root fo him... even if he is French.

I really think he can make it to 6.16 at the olympics.

No it is Renaud, look at the name, you will see Lavillenie written on the other side. The image has flipped.

I'm just joking around, I actually have a couple of French friends. I give them a hard time, too.

@obiwannotanikan I pole vault for one year now. I'm 17 years old and my personal best is 4.35 m. i did gymnastics before i did pole vaulting, but unfortunately i got an injury on my wrist, so i had to quit gymnastics. So that's how i became a pole vaulter. Oh wait i forgot to say... i'm from the netherlands.(:

On some vaults I agree, but his technique is still amazing. He could of been like Sergey and just said, "well fuck technique, ill just throw myself over the bar"

@obiwannotanikan haha yes you're right. I'll never forget the 2009 world champs of berlin... Hooker was absolutely amazing! btw, did you notice that lavillenie is one of the only vaulters who doesn't push himself from the pole, he just get's catapulized (if that's an english word) off the pole. so you're american, what is your personal best?

lavillenie does more of a double leg tuck kind of swing which doesnt allow for constant pressure on the pole so he wont he able to vault as high as the great bubka.Bubka does amazing job of keeping his trail leg straight and swinging it to the top of the pole which allows for constant pressure on the pole which means higher vaults over his top hand which eguals higher vaults.but also not to say lavillenie isnt a great vaulter he is amaing especially for being 5foot 7 or whatever he is.

I wouldnt say he wont vault as high as bubka... he went 6.07 at European Indoor Championships, with exception to the fault with the bar situation he cleared it.... Only 7cm to go.

@MilanM33 Captapulized? I'll take it. I know what you mean and that's all that matters. I competed in high school. I mainly ran the girls' 300 hurdles. My personal best was around 46 seconds. But I played basketball too, and that's where my shortness really became a disadvantage. Did you pole vault or do track?

0:24 - 0:34 the video is backwards....i was confused for a moment cause i didnt think he was a lefty vaulter

besides the fact that bubka is the best technical vaulter? bubka was lazy on lower bars, but not the big vaults. lavillenie has a bad double leg swing, and he has a hard time keeping it straight through the top when he pulls. but hey. what do i know
