WOAH WOAH WOAH!! HANG ON! I've had my LLC all year. I'm about to be asking about this tax-exempt area with these wholesalers.
Update: Candle science's website is straight forward with this topic. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Like you, I also paid hundreds of dollars in taxes that should have not gone through. That alone would have covered the cost of my LLC and part of my trademark cost by now. This took about 20 mins to figure out. Super easy and I noticed that my webhosting offers it as well.

Just FYI, it’s not technically “exempt”, but a “reseller certificate” that you submit to your supplier. That means you don’t pay sales tax to your supplier at the time of purchase, but you will collect sales tax on the finished product and submit it to your state. However, when you pay sales tax to your supplier on raw materials, you can take a credit for that tax against what you owe the state so you’re not paying double tax. Ask your accountant about it. I did the same thing in the beginning and was able to take what I had paid to the supplier off of what I owed to the state. Hope that makes sense.
