I wonder what you think about Livia? One of the better scenes is when Tony runs away from her, falls and his gun falls out. For me, she is the sickest character in the story. Pure evil.
It's funny that most people won't acknowledge that Livia and Tony are the two most similar characters in the entire series. Tony parrots her word for word over and over without realizing and often behaves exactly like her. They had such a toxic relationship because both of them idealized Johnny Boy and displaced their anger and resentment towards to him completely onto the other. They both had they're opportunities to break the cycle when Johnny Boy was alive and they didn't take it, just like every character in the Sopranos that choose misery instead of self improvement
Both Johhny and Livia are deeply disturbed people. The two of them take credit for the fact that their children are deeply disturbed. But a mother who plans the execution of her own son with his uncle is more than disturbing, if we consider that it is the Coza Nostra and mothers who care for their children, especially boys. In general, that world is not normal. Dave Chase did a great job describing them.
Just shows how evil Tony truly was, he was willing to throw Carmela and the family away, and start again with Adriana, and a few episodes later sends her to her death without thinking twice.
It also shows how stupid Adriana is. Chris abused her and ratted her out killed, but he cared about her too. Tony didn't give a shit about her and directly had her killed. Chris is also younger, more attractive and is clearly being groomed to take over as boss one day. Attractive capo in his 30s and future boss or overweight balding boss in his late 50s. Hmmmmm
Very true, one of the worst scenes (yet also funny) was when Furio announced to everyone within a mile radius that Tony Soprano is here, right there sat at a table discussing business with a group of other Mafia members and that his car is parked a distance away! 🙋🏻♂️👋 👨🏻🦯💬“Tonaaay I hadda parka tha car all da way ova dare I got to ahhhhh fucka me ata lega arghhh!” 🧍🏻♂️🩼❄️

4:15 it was definitely the latter; Chris took it as an ego hit as Paulie was suggesting Chris never intended -- or could bring himself -- to shoot Tony. Actually one of the rare times Paulie shows something resembling compassion, I think he said it to defuse the situation as he doesn't want Chris to get hurt, rather than directly trying to knock Chris's ego.
@@tomz5704 If he wanted to get him killed he would have said something alluding to him trying to take out Tony, of something like "he'll just do it again".
I always loved that scene with that look on Pauline’s face like shut up kid I’m trying to save your life but also such sadness because he knows it probably won’t work
Must be analyzed scenes🙏: 1. Tony and Ralph decideing Jackie Jr fate, briliant scene where both of them try to wash their hands of soon-to-be-spilled blood of Jackie Jr. 2. Gloria Trillo's break up, her psyche and resemblece of Livia. 3. Johnny Sack entering the room with a scared look on his face, after the hit put on his life by Carmine Sr/Tony and the simultaneous canceled hit of his own on Ralph... Its something left unsaid and unseen in the show... did Johnny Sack knew something? P.S. These analyses are gold.
Great point with Tony purposefully humiliating Chris by saying “average at best” The scene the sit down with Paulie and Ralphie..some all time great lines by Ralph and power dynamics…what a schnuck Paulie could be
You should do the scene from “everybody hurts” where Tony visits Artie in the hospital. Super underrated scene where Tony’s mask slips and you get a lot of subtle examples of his true nature that are easy to miss on the first watch
Chris was a loose cannon and an addict so he obviously couldn’t be trusted. But I feel that if Paulie and Patsy did conspire to kill Tony as there is overwhelming evidence to suggest.. THIS would be the time to start the conversation with Chris.
Chrissy was kind of a mess, but I thought he showed more loyalty to Tony and the family when he gave up Adriana. No other character went so far to prove he could be trusted..
The very last scene between Tony and Junior… when Tony asks Junior if he remembers Johnny, his kid brother…. and tells him about this “thing of ours”… and that he and his dad both ran North Jersey… Tony seemed genuinely sad in that scene.
Happily surprised you noticed ANOTHER reason i loved this show. Foreshadowing. The interactions between characters, mannerisms and eventual outcomes. Sill vs Tony in season 4 comes to mind. Theres alot of good back and forth between the two in the cellar after Sill deliberately disobeyd Tony when giving Patsy the ok to rob the job site. Great video 👍👍
I always thought it would be interesting for Michael Franzese to do an analysis of this episode. If people thought the Boss had gotten with a Soldiers fiancé, how would that be handled by the real Mob?
I’d love to see you talk about Tony, Chris, and that animal Blundetto chatting at Uncle Pat’s farm. Chris being excluded because of his sobriety and trying to stay tough, followed by him crying in the car always hits hard for me
The very first scene when Feech Lamana first comes back home and is Junior’s kitchen with Junior and Bobby.. Tony comes in.. then they all sit down and Feech asks to get “back in the game”… Tony then looks at Junior… and Junior gives Tony a nod. It happened very discreetly.
If possible, you could do either the sit down between Tony and Ralph over Jackie junior's fate which was very complicated and hard to figure out, or the intense sit down between New York and New Jersey over delivering Tony B to New York so that they could punish him for what he did to Billy Leotardo and Joey Peeps.
No gonna lie. If I knew my boi went all the fuck out of the way to get a burger with my fiancé, I would be so godamn salty and bitter. I would probably never feel the same way again.
You should look line by line at the meeting between Ralph and Tony at the pork store discussing the fate of Jackie Junior. When they say all kinds of things without saying anything at all.
Pointing out that Tony is a serial philanderer isn't an _ad hominem,_ it is bringing up an extremely relevant character trait showing a clear pattern of behaviour which supports Chris's suspicions.
A better ending to Chris's character would have been owning up to the fact that he wrote the movie as a revenge fantasy against Tony. That will be way more satisfying
Interesting analysis. I haven’t watched the show straight through in quite a while, but something i’ve always wondered was whether Tony had Hesh’s girl killed? It wouldn’t make sense because Tony then pays Hesh back what he borrowed.
